Toyota Recalls 3.8 Million CarsPosted on Sep 29, 2009
Toyota has announced a recall of eight U.S. models, including the 2004-2009 Prius. A problem with floor mats has reportedly caused the deaths of five people so far. The BBC calculates the cost of the recall at two years’ worth of U.S. sales for the automaker. Toyota’s explanation of the problem—including advice for avoiding calamity—can be found here. —PS

What a disaster for Toyota. Still it’s not akin to exploding gas tanks, or cars prone to flipping over. Watching those congressmen berate the Toyota executives on Capitol Hill was just disgraceful. Sure mistakes were made and lives were lost but the way those politicians hammed it up for the TV cameras, making sure they were seen to be ruthlessly vindictive against those ‘foreign-types’ who took American jobs was just nauseating.

I never thought that it’s “really” possible for floor mats that seriously. I think there’s a special for this like the mr gasket accelerator pedal.
