No dice: Dan Rather lost his job at CBS, and now his attempt to sue his former network over the firing incident has failed.

Former CBS anchor Dan Rather has come up short—$70 million short, in fact—in his bid to sue his ex-employers at the network for relieving him of his desk duty following a 2004 report he delivered about then-President George W. Bush’s National Guard service during the Vietnam War era.  —KA

The Wall Street Journal:

A state appeals court dismissed Dan Rather’s lawsuit against his former bosses at CBS Corp. (CBS) on Tuesday, dealing a possible knockout blow to the news anchor’s high-profile dispute over the circumstances of his departure from the network.

Rather, 77, alleged that CBS ruined his reputation, making him a scapegoat for a flawed 2004 story on then-President Bush’s Vietnam-era Texas Air National Guard service. The story aired during that year’s presidential election.

In an unanimous decision, the appellate court ruled that Rather’s claim “must be dismissed in its entirety.”

The “flawed” news story was doomed from the start - CBS is a business first and a source of journalism someplace else down the line.  Remember that “flawed” doesn’t mean it was totally without merit.
But in the “justice” system, big money almost always wins.  And Dan Rather knew that score before he let the story be aired; the story could have been delayed and had its “flaws” corrected and then presented when it was more accurate.  And remember that Dan was the guy in charge of that editing process.

If the Democrats hadn’t fallen hook, line and sinker for the illegal, nonsensical
invasion of Iraq they could be mopping the floor with the reichpublicans. But
they’re quite happy with their little time-share on Pennsylvania avenue and they’re
so totally devoid of commitment and passion.

yes…George Bush was willing to send young people off
to die, but was too much of a coward to go to war
himself.

Yes, he was coward.

Dan Rather was right.

CBS was wrong.

Let us not take our eye off the ball.

George Bush clearly was guilty as charged regarding his dereliction of duty in the TANG.

This is yet another dreary case of the media shooting the messenger in order to cover up the crime on behalf of the rich and powerful.

When are we finally going to admit that calling this Empire a Repbublic, or a Democracy is just plumb crazy mad lying?

From Maine to Hawaii, people live in an oligarchy that favors crony capitalists. Instead of democracy, why don’t we call this mess what it really is… proto-fascism?
