Bill Clinton Picks a Horse in Cali Governor RacePosted on Sep 16, 2009
The former president has thrown his considerable political and fundraising heft behind San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom in the race to succeed Arnold Schwarzenegger. Newsom is up against California institution and former Gov. Jerry Brown. The boyish mayor backed Hillary Clinton in the 2008 Democratic primary. Jerry Brown and Bill Clinton faced each other in the Democratic presidential primary 16 years earlier. —PS

Sorry Bill, a lot of what has happened to this country falls at your feet. There’s Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, the deregulating of the Financial Industry and the further rise of Goldman Sachs, not to mention the stupidity of the BJ lie and oh, let’s not forget the unconditional support of the Indonesian genocide against the East Timorese. So your endorsement is just a kiss of death as far as I’m concerned. I have as much faith in you and your judge of character as I do your wife. I just look at who see remains married to after multiple affairs all while you were supposed to be working for the electorate. While you were screwing them you were also screwing us.
I thought Jerry Brown was an excellent Governor but got shafted by the stupid people of California who believed all the med fly crap and the right-wing religious whack jobs. I’ll take Jerry over Gavin who is doing tit for tat or Traitorous Diane. As for the former Twit CEO of HP, she couldn’t manage a mid sized corporation how in hell is she going to manage a whole state any better than the moron we’ve had for the last 6 or seven years now. Davis was bad but Ahnold has been a useless third testicle!

California is the eighth largest economy in the world. Choosing a man or woman to govern such a state should be more of a broad set of guidlines than any single issue.

Doing the same thing over and over, and expecting a different result is one definition of insanity.
There is no evidence to date that either Newsom or Brown have any intention of bringing science and sanity to our drug policy, especially in regard to cannabis.
Why should any Democrat who is a medical-marijuana patient support Newsom or Brown? And, for those who might consider this a fringe issue of the fringe left I’d suggest that propaganda-as-policy is dangerous and corrosive to Democracy whatever your political ideology and preferences might be.
Criminal laws and sanctions that remove the freedom and liberty of citizens MUST be evidence-based! Why the silence from the candidates and the Party on this issue?
This is one longtime Democratic voter and supporter who will not be casting a vote for either of these men.
Where is the evidence to support my position? For just one example, try reading: Responsibilities..The Director (aka the Drug Czar) (12)A and (12)B from “Title VII Office of National Drug Control Policy Reauthorization Act of 1998:H11225.
Or take a look at the studies on cannabis that get funded by NIH and the studies that do not. Studies showing harm from cannabis get funded. Studies showing benefits DO NOT get funded.
The influence of the Clinton’s brought the Democratic Party to the center-right. The Clinton’s made it okay for the Democrats to forget the working man and instead embrace corporate influence. Some endorsement!

Do they elect horses in Columbia?

Newsom is an ambitious politician who in many ways resembles a younger Clinton. It’s a safe bet that every choice he has, and everything he might do as governor, will be looked at from the perspective of how it might affect his future run for the presidency, and not from the perspective of whether it will result in a long-term good result for California.
Brown, on the other hand, is in the twilight of his career. Therefore, it is likely that his primary focus will not be on getting elected to higher office, but instead on achieving accomplishments that will have a beneficial long-term impact on the state, and thus a beneficial impact on how future historians view him.

Cali is a town in Columbia. They have a mayor, not a governor.
Why would Bill Clinton care about local politics in another country?

Newsom brought Universal Health Care to SF and fought
for civil rights (took a big chance to do what is right
for a minority of which is not a part).
What has Brown risked? Who has he stood up for? Taken
care of?
I look forward to casing my vote for Newsom.

As usual, Clinton backs the DINO in the race. Payback for the support Newsom threw to Hillary. I’m a Brown supporter and will vote for him in this one, if Jones doesnt throw his hat in the ring .....

We need to convince Van Jones to run!

None of the clowns running for governor will change anything for the better. California is like France before the Revolution or Mexico 1910, just a fat oligarchy spending state resources on who knows what while people in the Valley can’t even get clear tap water.

Screw Bill and screw Newsome. Jerry Brown is cooler, smarter and more qualified than either one of ‘em.
