There are already about 62,000 American troops in Afghanistan, and more may be sent to combat the Taliban and contain insurgent violence, according to Adm. Michael Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who said Tuesday that the next couple of weeks could be telling in terms of how many more troops the U.S. might deploy.  —KA

VOA News:

U.S. military officials say they are in a race against time and mounting opposition from the American public to reverse the deteriorating security situation in Afghanistan, where violence has reached its highest level since the Taliban was ousted from power in 2001.

Mullen discussed the troop levels in testimony before the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee. “A properly resourced counter-insurgency probably means more forces and without question, more time and more commitment to the protection of the Afghan people and to the development of good governance,” he said.

hello. we should bring the poor National Guard troops home no matter what. it’s deja vu Cambodia (we could not enter) sending insurgents into Vietnam. we were ‘drafting’ American lives: to use as body counts. what if we round up all the illegals, and make a one time offer for citizenship- to go over and defend the country they want so much to take from- would that satisfy the warrior elites in the wide, wide world of military imperialism; that hunger for war? whom do you suppose we could get to do the work of the illegals? let’s ask the military. i’m almost certain that would cut down on illegal immigration, and maybe questionable tourism as well. why we are not just sending more helicopters (oh, yeah, that was when the CIA used al-Qaeda to whip the Soviets with shoulder missiles) and the Taliban just keep attacking the invaders like a shooting gallery, and more troops ... walk away. Military Intelligence is exhausted, so step back, bring all the troops home, start a new war after you have had a little vacation time. soften up a little. investigate whether or not you can survive, without always searching for an enemy to destroy. play with the new robots. come back and reintroduce yourselves to your families for awhile. a short time will pass and you will be firming up again, and we will have to redeploy you before you go ballistic at Walmart. maybe pass some time with a neighborhood watch group. kill all the insects around your home. stay sharp. we may need you when insurgents get off the cruise ship in Miami.

When those that support the wars, have to fight the wars, war will end.

The jackasses and Keystone Kops running this sorry-ass country cannot be gotten out of the back of the walk-in closet where they pass the days constantly checking out the size of their peckers.  This includes Obama who has already turned out to be as great and destructive a screw-up as George W. Bush.  His body count may be lower but give him time.
