Israeli PM Won’t Halt Settlement Construction

Netanyahu
World Economic Forum

Although the United States has requested that Israel stop building new settlements in the West Bank, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has apparently refused to put a halt to those projects. About the best he was willing to do Monday was say that construction might be scaled down “for a temporary period.”  —KA

BBC:

“A few days ago, we confirmed 450 additional housing units. I told the Americans that we shall consider scaling down construction.”

He said Israel would strike a balance between offering a gesture that would help restart peace negotiations and ensuring a “normal life” for residents in the West Bank settlements.

He also said that any scaling down of construction would be “for a temporary period”, not as yet agreed with the Americans.

“The Palestinians expected a complete halt to construction, a freeze, now it is clear that will not be,” he went on to say. “Jerusalem is not a settlement and construction there will continue as usual.”

once again for our resident sophomore, Patrick Henry:

and if you were to substantiate your wild accusations people might not think you a liar and a right wing extremist.

The post noting the amount of aid to Israel had a link attached, go quibble with them ,jackoff.

My condemnation of the policies and preferences of Barack Obama were apt and on the mark, and ,when the thread is about Israel, as is this one, jerkoff, I condemn their policies as well.

You are reaching and off the deep end, far ,far off. Each of these submissions by you tightens the noose of your unreliability and worthlessness to any civil discourse, and you are too childish and ignorant to know it.

I think your 114billion figure is off, figure interest on that money.  More like 134billion. Of course your here to spin Israel and the jews supporting it.  Soften the blows so to speak.

http://www.washington-report.org/about-wrmea/5696-us-aid-to-israel-1948-present.html

Your candyass condemnation of Obama in lieu of direct condemnation of Israel is pretty slippery as well.  As stated before Obama cannot just stop the money as much of it comes from laws passed and signed before he came into office.

I noticed some of your mealy mouth “input” on the 9/11 thread. Of course you go with the offical story as most good zionists do.  Can’t have Israel get a size 12 put up its ass over that now can we.

I remember you stating that you got up at 2:30 to go to work and get home at 1:30.  That forklift got a laptop on it?  More than likely the “boiler room” you work in has several.  Say hi to Howard and the rest of the shitheads.

How asinine, Inherently Windy. Yes, we “give” oil-rich countries money for oil. But
that’s not a “gift”. It’s called buying stuff. The Israelis can’t stand the fact that
these countries have something objective and real to offer America, and Israel has
only its fraudulent holiness to shine on us, in exchange for gargantuan gifts of US
cash and blood.

Israel grants immunity to soldiers over misdeeds

September 15, 2009

“The Israeli Knesset is working on a bill to grant more immunity to Israeli soldiers as the number of Palestinian lawsuits against the Israeli army hits a record high.

The bill—an amendment to the 1952 Civil Wrongs (Liability of the State) Law—says Israel is not civilly responsible for damages incurred during a military operation launched in a situation of war, providing a broader defense for soldiers’ actions in military operations.

Under the current law, soldiers must prove that their lives were in danger for their actions to be considered a military operation. But the new proposal calls for removal of the obligation on all Israeli soldiers in the West Bank and foreign countries since it assumes that the lives of soldiers operating outside Israel are inherently in danger, the Israeli publication, The Jerusalem Post, reported.

Another provision of the amendment allows the Israeli army to declare an area “hostile territory” whenever it likes, which absolves Tel Aviv of liability for damages sustained by residents of that area. Thus, whenever - and for as long as - a certain area of the West Bank, or the entire West Bank, is declared a “hostile territory”, Palestinians do not have the right to sue the Israeli army for the incidents that occurred.

The bill also deems Gaza, where thousands of Palestinians were killed and injured during a recent Israeli military offensive, a hostile area. Following the three-week war, hundreds of lawsuits were filled against misconduct of the Israeli troops.

The bill aims to decrease the number of Palestinian lawsuits against Israel. Palestinians have reportedly filed over 500 lawsuits against Israeli soldiers since 2000.”

You labeled me a Zionist and, despite numerous requests for any cut and paste from my posts to prove this assertion you simply continue to wallow in your childish stupidites. Congratulations for proving so eloquently your complete lack of worth.

Hey, EH!

How much money have we given to Arab nations, in return for their oil which they can’t eat, smoke, or feed to their camels?  At least 100x more than we’ve given to Israel.

Ardee writes:

“In its history Israel has received almost 114 billion dollars in US aid.”

That’s only if you count just the most direct expenditures. Since Ardee refuses
to acknowledge the very considerable extent to which, for example, gigantic
military operations such as the Iraq war were undertaken for Israel (that war
was politically inevitable only because Israel wanted it, and therefore the
“liberal” Democrats couldn’t stop it), then one must add many more hundreds
of billions to the cost of our so-called “alliance” with this parasitic Holy State.

Then of course there are also things like US tax breaks which fund Israeli
settlements but are not usually counted as “aid to Israel” — see the following:

There are two forms that White racism has taken in the US, a highly racist country.  They are neoZionist racism and anti-semitic racism.

Zionist is simply the nationalism of Jews, and like other nationlisms, like the Americanism of, say, Scott Ritter, is not at all fascism.  But Zionism has been hijacked by fascists to conduct ethnic cleansing and war by Israel, for US purposes as well.  I will call this fascist form of zionism ‘neozionism’- since it is allied with neocoservatism and neoliberalism.

Anti Semitic racism is often allied with Christianity, as it was with the Klan. It is strong in the US and growing as the White race loses its power both in the world and in the US to non-White groupings.

Our emotions havve been systematically trained by the US power system to attack non-Whites rather than the plutocracy.  As Glenn Greenwald quotes today on CommonDreams, discussing the teabaggers and raging in the community meetings, right wingers misdirect their anger to find nontargets to mispunish.  And the emotion is driven by racist rage systematically stirred up by codewords by Beck, Fox News, etc.

It will take a period of historical time to fully expung this emotional racism, which we all possess.  It is not very unlikely that it will first assume power.  Not a comforting thought in an age of nuclear weapons.  So the time is now to attack both forms of racism, both neoliberal and neoconservative, sich it is allied with American class economics.

But the question is, who is going to do the opposition?  The left is fragmented, diffused and confused.  How are we to disentangle ourselves?

Paatrick Henry - you are slopping over into anti-Semitism.  Reading the Tulmud is no different from reading the New Testiment, the Koran or the Gitas.  they are all awash with absurd delusions and perverted morality.
************************************************

This isn’t news, FT. But I’m glad to see you are finally recognizing it and realize that when I said it before, it wasn’t just my “twisted zionist paranoia” (or something like that).

Besides, as you know, PH can’t just “read” the Talmud.  That’s like reading all the laws recorded in the Congressional Record (or the Globe before it), all the cases tried according to those laws, and all the decisions rendered by the various courts, and having all that in three or four languages, two of them, at least, being dead languages.  The Talmud is tens of volumes, in part in Hebrew, part Aramaic, and other languages.

Besides, as you well point out, pretty much every religious text claims to be the “Truth”, that all others are “False” and to avoid, convert, or kill the followers of “false gods”—sometimes all 3, as the history of Christianity and Islam vividly illustrate. (Judaism has never been big on conversion).

I, for one, hope the President starts to escalate the pressure on Israel and Netan-whottaYahoo, cutting off various funding and initiatives and loudly making it clear that this will increase until Israel backs off violating the agreements.

I agree with you on the fables and embellished histories which lay claim to being the exclusive “one”.  There are alot of great histories in the world besides the judeao-christian one.

Anti-semite? actually I’m a non-semite like the other 96% of the U.S. population.  I will not give up my free speech because a bunch of morons wants to “label” me for not fitting in with their own self-belief system.  This form of slander is all too common from jews against their detractors and grows more petty by the day.

If ardee, ITW, lefty and lilmamzer are examples of what the jews have to offer by way of discourse (since I know so few) then that race, religion or ethnicity deserves any and all criticism it gets.  Act like a punk, get treated like a punk.

There is a strong stream of anti-Semitism among White supremists derived from the Klan and National socialism,  a history of it just appeared BLOOD POLITICS by Leonard Zeskind.  the White supremist movement has thirty thousand full time cadre and two hundred thousound active supporters.  And probably millions of sympathizers.

Much of the money accorded Israel is through laws passed by different paid off congresses over 30 years.  I am unaware of any power of the executive branch that can overturn such laws easily.  Refusing Israel access to American contracts and weapondry is something the President can do.

Unfortunately, I have grown accustomed to the Israeli and American jewish-zionist arrogance and find it hard to believe a larger hand of corpratism can move ideological bolders which have lasted thousands of years.

One only has to read the Talmud to see who the real bigots are and why they are so arrogant.

That the US ‘regrets’ the settlements is pure political theater, since effectively it finances them. Suspending aid to Israel would stop them in a hurry, but the Obama team doesn’t want to stop them, merely give that impression to American people and the world.

Obama is continuing Bushite policies where he is not expanding them, as in the Afpak war.  And it is putting bases in Coumbia to threaten Venzuelian oil, and trying separate the southern oil province from Sudan under the guise of ending the Darfur Genicide.  These policies are not only exploitive, they are extremely dangerous.  They have no solution except increased war.

In its history Israel has received almost 114 billion dollars in US aid. If Obama is serious about reining in the expansionist ambitions of the Israeli govt as well as its arrogance towards the rights of the Palestinian people stopping the flow of money to that nation would seem a good first step.

We know why Israel, given its own selfish interests, refuses to stop building
settlements.

And if only we could be persuaded to act according to our own
interests, we’d drop all support for Israel — and then we wouldn’t have to wish
Israel would stop building settlements, because it would no longer be our
problem.

History will puzzle over the dead bones of the United States of America,
wondering why, oh why our leaders failed to understand this.

How about the US stop proving $10bn to Israel in the form of “aid”, maybe that would give them a reason to pause building those settlements on OCCUPIED TERRITORY?!  That the Israeli’s continue to steal Palestinian land as they talk about “wanting peace”, really just proves that they have no intention to negotiate fairly!  It is time that the US government actually be honest brokers, and stop allowing the Israeli’s to behave like the Nazi’s they condemn and bring pressure to bear to demand that the Israeli’s stay within the pre-1967 borders and allow the Palestinians their right to self-determination!
