Is Rep. Joe Wilson Winning?

The White House was worried President Obama’s major health care address would get lost in the commemorations of 9/11. They didn’t know about Joe Wilson, the heretofore unknown South Carolina congressman who is now the national poster boy for the disaffected and ill-informed white people hurling tea bags and insults at the president.

The summer health care debate has been shaped by scandalously poor media coverage of town hall protests, skewing the facts and confusing millions of Americans for the sake of ratings.

President Obama had hoped to refocus the discussion and scored major points for his Wednesday address to Congress. But instead of talking about Obama’s speech and its arguments, cable news outlets have been debating whether Rep. Wilson is correct that health care reform will provide coverage to immigrants.

CNN took a heckle and made it a rebuttal, elevating Wilson and his agenda to the level of the president.

Wilson is still in the news, kept there in part by Democrats who may censure the congressman and hope to raise gobs of money on the back of his outburst. A fundraising e-mail signed by James Carville with the subject “Heckling the President?” says “Heck, if crazy were a pre-existing condition, the GOP wouldn’t be able to get insurance.”

Cute. But four days after the dust-up The Associated Press is reporting on whether or not Wilson will apologize again. He won’t.

There’s a bit of a Sarah Palin factor here. Just mention the name and it’s good for ratings, good for Web traffic and circulation, good for fundraising. It’s just not very good for America.  —PS

Shane,

Obama hasn’t said a word. Everything is subjective bull theater in all kinds of ways without any speck of objective evidence whatsoever. Even what President Carter said has been taken out of context by the Right-Wing CONSERVATIVE EXTREMIST REPUBLICAN Echo-chamber.

The Right-Wing Conservative EXTREMIST Republicans have pulled the race card  with the Right’s subjective sophist propaganda signs led by Right-Wing sophist propagandists Glen Beck’s and Dick Armey’s Conservative EXTREMIST Tea Party Demonstrators so that legislators minds will not be on meaningful public health care legislation.

Everything, the whole outrageous Right-Wing Show, even Joe Wilson’s contempt of Congress, has been put on by the Right’s players in hopes that fools will somehow tack the Right’s inferior actions  onto President Obama, but not a chance.

I was watching Obermann’s “worst persons” last nite (for a second as I rarely watch MSM anymore) and it was mentioned that Wilson had put on his resume that he was an immigration lawyer.  Further review proved that Wilson was a realty lawyer and had never represented anyone in a immigration case, thereby making Wilson a liar on his own resume.

Its funny when the left has lost an argument they pull the race card…why is that?

There is nothing like a bunch of race baiters that will make constituents flee from a candidate faster then anything.  The democratic race baiters, Jimmy Carter, Brian Williams, Chris Mathews, Maureen Dowd et al are going to single handedly cost Obama a second term…if his policies don’t first grin

Why don’t these hate-filled, right-wing, xenophobic, bigots ask those remnants of the indigenous population their forefathers slaughtered, those remnants living in refugee camps, ask them who they think the illegal aliens are? Yes, Joe and his great white European occupiers don’t have a leg to stand on.

This is politics, no one can tell me that all that is said, even about the health care reform, that it will take place-plus there are a lot of UN specifics concerning who will get health care benefits…ups, sorry, I got off the subject

Hi Carrie,

If you do a search on the internet you will find a ton of amendments that were killed in specifically HR 3200.
There’s no provision for how the prohibition would be enforced, or any requirement for people to prove they are citizens or legal residents before getting health care benefits. In fact, Democrats on the Energy and Commerce and Ways and Means committees defeated Republican-offered amendments that would have required people to verify their legal status before getting care, with some Democrats saying such requirements would be unnecessarily burdensome for people legally entitled to coverage.
Also,  in the House Energy and Commerce Committee there was an amendment that would have explicitly prohibited illegal aliens from receiving health care benefits under the health care reform bill (H.R. 3200). The amendment was narrowly defeated 28-to-29 after two Blue Dog Democrats on the committee voted against the amendment.
My guess is this is a way the Democrats are trying to lockup a new voter block for the future to get Obama relected
Do your research though as there is a ton of stuff just in HR3200 that will blow your mind…for example did you know that 10Billion dollars are going to basically bailout the defunct SEIU healthcare pension plan? Thats 10 Billion tax payer dollars coming out of our pocket that does not need to be because of their nice cadillac healthcare plans.  Its truely amazing!  Good luck.

No compassion.

I’m against illegal immigration but I think this country is big enough that if an illegal needs medical attention they should get it.

I bet that hayseed backassward state of South Carolina has alot of illegals doing under the table work.  Maybe Obama should open some INS offices throughout that state and enforce the law.

Wilson wouldn’t last an election cycle.

Very good commentary.

I think the Wilson thing was more planned than is admitted, looking at marketing
ploys, interrupting brands as rebellion, appealing to the inner reptile and short-
ciruiting the higher parts of the brain needed for debate.  One cannot hear or
remember what Obama said when they are riled up by Wilson’s provocations.

I think it is extremely important that this man be punished severely for this,
otherwise what will be remembered from Obama’s address will be “You Lie”,
nothing else.

I am also really tired of CNN’s interference for the right.  When did CNN ever
become so right-wing before?

Obama also blundered again by accepting Joe Wilson’s fake apology
unconditionally, sorry to say, Obama is an idiot to think that you can ignore these
kinds of base bahavior and leave the residual effects to fester like a disease.

Carrie and Catherine…I have to give kudos to both of you grin

You are right…this isn’t about Democrats and Republicans.  This is about Obama and his agenda.  You don’t “misstate” the facts when you are a Constitutional Lawyer.  He knows what the laws are.  If Healthcare is federally mandated, he knows based on settle law, even if there is legalize to deny “illegal’s” healthcare, settled law would trump that legalize.  Once federally mandated, you would not be able to deny anyone healthcare regardless of his or her citizenship status period.
Joe Wilson was right on the facts that Democrats shot down two amendments to ban “illegal’s” from getting healthcare, but he still didn’t mention anything about settled law on this matter even if those amendments passed.
This is just one of the issues that will make Obama a one term President.  My guess is that the Radicals he calls Czars will also help that cause.  I am a registered Independent and my Democrat friends are fleeing this guy like the black plague.  He campaigned as a moderate and now they are finally seeing what I told them from the beginning…that he is no moderate and based on his czars…he may very well be a radical.
His closest advisor Valerie Jarret knew about Van Jones and his Radical past…so tell me how Obama was “unaware” of this fact?  He wasn’t.
For all you race baiters…this has nothing to do with race…it has everything to do with policy.  So keep pushing the race card and you will see more and more people leave this President.  If there is one thing a normal person can’t stand, its race baiters.

When skinhead Nazis in the former East Germany began to become a serious threat to society a friend of mine went to their meeting places to listen to their comments-provided that they did not shout or insult him-to discuss their apparent grievances and what could be done about them or how these might be changed for a more positive attitude towards society.

It is totally useless to throw epithets at the so-called “far, far right tea-ers” with the pretense that it is exactly known what motivates them and the moniker of “fear” alone is just not good enough for me. But if it is mainly fear what are we going to do to try to remove that fear? Just throw around words? Good luck. We ought to do what my German friend did, talk directly with them and not indirectly on web sites only. Show them that we are not monsters from hell but caring folks.

Both Wilson and Obama are winning. They both want to table real
health care reform. They both are working to enrich the insurance
companies. They just play different roles. Wilson and the Republicans can play
villian and heckle the president and accuse him of all sorts of nonsense. Obama
and the Democrats can play the good guys and react with humble indignation.
They both look good by playing to their base, but both parties are working to
make sure the final bill enriches the insurance companies. The Dems were the
ones that made sure Single Payer was off the table, and now they are the ones
“compromising” the public option into oblivion.
And now we will be forced to buy private health insurance. And if we refuse we
will be fined. Surely this is change we can believe in!

“Joe” Wilson is playing to the uneducated and their fears to gain support for his career.  This is normal political manipulation and we should not be surprised. He is winning in his home district and that is all that should matter to him at this time in his career.  These people put him in congress and they are the ones that will keep him there.  He is smart to realize that fact.
Democrats should thank him and encourage his outbursts because Wilson is helping the Democrats get their “second wind”.  The people who should be angry with Wilson are his fellow Republicans.  They are the ones that are getting stained.
So, I say “Thanks, Joe Keep up the good work”.

Oh gee, the Republicans and the Democrats are pointing fingers at each other and name-calling again.  Both are complaining that one is deliberately trying to hurt the others’ feelings.  What’s new.

Let’s get rid of both of these tired, old parties.  Let’s start fresh.  We need better symbols other than donkeys or elephants.  I don’t want to be either.  I’m not either.

I hope I don’t get marginalized and lumped in with the ‘tea baggers’ just because I’m critical of this administration.  The last administration left the better part of my youth completely disenchanted, politically.  I’ve been on guard for government and MSM BS since.

This new man just uses pretty words to flatter people into a false sense of security, but the door is still wide open for all to see the level of plutocracy, and corruption still going on in government at the expense of tax payers.

And who’s allowing the plutocracy?  Your Democratic and Republican leaders of government that have been bought in election after election.

This name-calling, and this MEDIA SPECTACLE is just a DISTRACTION, people.  It’s just distracting us from the real issues, the real things that the government and congress are going to slip around our short attention spans.

What scares me in the cult of personality surrounding Mr. Obama, is that are people going to be made fun of for criticizing anything the Obama administration does?  So far, his has not been a very honest, open administration (I’ll give you examples:  his campaign promise over NAFTA not being kept, or his price fixing with Big Pharma, despite telling the American people it would not happen—Big Pharma unwilling to give up more than 80 billion).

There are a lot of people legitimately wondering what’s going to happen with our country.  I see many great comments critical of plutocracy on here.  I hope that we don’t get shoved to the side, in the creation of the spectacle that anyone that questions the administration and its corporate, zionist inspired motives is a loony.

That would only give future presidents more control over their image.
