Former U.S. representative to the U.N. John Bolton was no fan of the saber-rattling Kim Jong Il, pictured.

In news that likely stands John Bolton’s mustache on end,  the U.S. has announced that it plans to hold direct—not mediated—talks with North Korea in an attempt to get Pyongyang back into the multilateral discussions aimed at ending its nuclear program.

The BBC:

The US says it would hold direct talks with North Korea to persuade it to return to stalled multilateral talks on ending its nuclear programme.

A spokesman for the US state department said that there had been no decision on when such talks might take place.

Philip Crowley insisted the move was not a policy shift and talks would take place within “the six-party process”.

North Korea pulled out of multilateral talks in April after international criticism following a rocket launch.

Why does anyone take John Bolton seriously? Doesn’t he predict an attack on Iran by year’s end EVERY year? The man is a total clown.

I watch this whole process with a bit of wonder.  This constant dance Kim and his corrupt government does is intended to get something for nothing.  They have a failed nation and know it but are unwilling to make the structural changes that would fix the problem.  Mostly fear of their own people’s reaction which would not be the overwhelming “love” we see publicly displayed all the time.  The people hate the little bastard and would gladly slit his throat given half a chance.

The vaulted North Korean army is a hollow shell with almost little substance.  They would make a big mess but could not sustain any significant action against the much better equipped and trained south.  Kim knows this very well and so his displays are just bluster to get him attention.  It is unfortunate that his long suffering people have to put of with this crap.  And now his offspring, probably even worse than him, will take over and run what is left into the ground.  What a bunch of morons!  Like so much in this world, it’s about money and power.
