Israel’s Holy Warriors

Is that a rabbi in your pocket? An Israeli soldier gets a little bit of religious iconography to help him through his training.

Changes in Israeli policy have military rabbis joining combat troops at the tip of the spear. Ostensibly there to boost morale, critics worry that the rabbis are turning soldiers into Jewish jihadis. One rabbi says he was ordered to blow a ram’s horn like Joshua, because “It makes the war holier.”

During the Gaza war, the military’s religious leaders distributed propaganda under the army’s official seal, casting that conflict in biblical terms.

All this has created an environment more attractive to fundamentalists and less appealing to Israel’s moderates and secular citizens. The military is drawing in settlers and zealots and transforming into something that doesn’t quite reflect the rest of the country.  —PS

BBC:

According to Reserve Gen Nehemia Dagan, what is happening in the army is far more dangerous than most Israelis realise: “We (soldiers) used to be able to put aside our own ideas in order to do what we had to do. It didn’t matter if we were religious or from a kibbutz. But that’s not the case anymore.

“The morals of the battlefield cannot come from a religious authority. Once it does, it’s Jihad. I know people will not like that word but that’s what it is, Holy War. And once it’s Holy War there are no limits.”

Nigtht-Guant is quite right.  What is happening in Israel is also happening in the US.  Just the religions differ, but they both support homicidal policy.  Fundimentalism is strongly intreanched in the US Air Force Academy and perhaps other places as well.  That high ranking general who proclaimed that his god was bigger than their god is part of religius hysteria and delusion that is becoming widespread among both militaries, and ideitify with holy massacres.

And both power systems have theromnuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction.  And an identification with power and a contempt for people.

I like holiness of weapons.
This just might be a reason why people strap bombs to themselves.
What else can they do?
Disco?

Just saw a news story of the black market in human organs and its happening in Israel. It seems that the Kosher Laws haven’t been updated for human organ transplantation. That I saw on the report anyway. The results aren’t that good since they use illegal and dubious surgeons in filthy abandoned hospitals to make their money. The endings aren’t that promising. Any Jews out there who have any data on it? Or anyone else involved or in-the-know on the situation?

Once part of Science Fiction but has been real, if crude, for some 30 or more years starting with reports in Mexico and Central America.

I wonder how that will affect the harvesting of non-kosher body parts?

In many ways Israel is a microcosm of what is happening in our own country with its share of Christian soldiers and working to make them holy warriors too. Not a good sign at all.

All wars are unholy, hysterical, fraudulent, destructive, cause more wars, and are anti-human. Add to that the fact that modern technology creates more disastrous weapons.  People—particularly soldiers—know the above statement is true. That’s why they get PTSD, which is the normal—repeat, normal—response to too much violence.  Humans are geared toward peace, family, community, nation, and eventually a world society, and their struggle toward fulfilling that destiny has been long and harsh.  But they have come a long way.

They have survived to the degree that they have conquered fear and hate and have avoided violence.
War is an unhealthy aberration and the human psyche knows it instinctively and responds with protest, one way or another, sooner or later. Nobody ever made war to stop peace, but always we make peace to stop war.  So . . . . . .
