Iraqi Death Toll Hits 13-Month High in AugustPosted on Sep 2, 2009
Perhaps it was to be expected after the mass exodus of American forces in late June, but August was a cruel month in terms of the Iraqi death toll caused by insurgent violence—the worst in 13 months. Unfortunately, the trend might continue as Iraqis navigate the aftermath of U.S. troop withdrawal and anticipate their national elections early next year. —KA

America seems to have turned into a country where much of the population has lost the ability to critically analyze information.
Oh, don’t misunderstand me. They have the “critically” part down pat. It doesn’t much matter whether they have FACTS upon which to base their judgements - they don’t let LACK of FACTS get in the way of any opportunity to air their ignorances, glib opinions and unsupported assumptions.
Like LostHills - since President Obama has not thrown his magic switch and ended wars in two countries during the 8 months he’s been in office, LostHills is ready to “turf the bum out.”
Americans, in general, seem also to be laboring under the assumption they live in a DEMOCRACY. Well, folks AMERICA IS A REPUBLIC. Two different political systems. The population gets to vote every once in a while to ELECT representatives - they DO NOT get to vote on ISSUES. Their representatives, once elected, ARE UNDER NO OBLIGATION TO VOTE as their constituents demand. So, LostHills, what YOU, as an individual citizen, want is irrelevant. You can talk to your representative until you’re blue in the face but that doesn’t mean he or she will vote to your satisfaction… and there’s nothing you can do about it but bitch. If YOU want to have a “say” - either get elected or move to a DEMOCRACY if you can find one.
Anyway, LostHills, once you’ve obtained all the information that President Obama has to work with regarding these wars, THEN you can come up with HOW and WHEN it is possible and reasonable to bring the wars to an end. Until then, how about giving the “man” a bit of a chance to do his job - even FOUR YEARS may be far too short a time frame to accomplish what you want. There’s a lot more going on behind the scenes than you or I have CLUE about. So by “beaking off” about this kind of stuff only displays our ignorance to the whole world. Leave your need for instant gratification at McDonald’s.

Welcome to Hell. Eight months into Barack Obama’s 1st year as president, the death tolls in Iraq and Afghanistan both reach new highs. The majority of Americans want the war(s) to end, and thought they could end it by voting. What a sick joke. This is like an episode of The Twilight Zone…

I sure wish someone could explain to me, in simple, uncomplicated terms that I can understand, the thinking that goes on in the brains of those who would load up vehicles with explosives then set them off to kill and maim innocent people and to destroy property.
Do these deranged minds actually expect that the entire government and population are just going to give up in fear and hand over control of the country to them?
Beats me.
