Abortion Ships Sail Into Troubled Water

After 10 years, the Dutch government may end the voyages of Women on Waves, a flotilla of abortion ambassadors who sail information and pills to countries that ban the practice. Originally designed as a floating clinic, “The ship is [now] a symbol, more than anything,” the group’s founder told Global Post—PS

In 1999 the Dutch group launched a plan to send ships to countries that ban abortion so women could come aboard, sail into international waters and terminate their pregnancies under the liberal laws of The Netherlands.

A decade on, the group’s vision of a fleet of floating abortion clinics never quite materialized. Now, changes to Dutch law mean the contentious voyages are currently suspended pending the results of a court battle.

Werent there also ships were a black person was legally a slave because the ship’s nation allowed slavery?

I suppose the legality of abortion works the same way.
