The war games involve 1,000 U.S. troops, 600 Georgian troops and smaller numbers from ex-Soviet Armenia, Azerbaijan and Ukraine.

The U.S. military has begun war games in the nation of Georgia, an exercise reportedly planned for months, but which comes just days after Russia announced it will spend half a billion dollars refurbishing its own military bases and strengthening its hold on Georgia’s breakaway region of Abkhazia.

Reuters:

One thousand U.S. troops began a military training exercise in Georgia on Tuesday against a backdrop of growing friction between Georgia and neighboring Russia.

Officials said the exercise, called “Immediate Response 2008”, had been planned for months and was not linked to a stand-off between Moscow and Tbilisi over two Russian-backed separatists regions of Georgia.

The United States is an ally of Georgia and has irritated Russia by backing Tbilisi’s bid to join the NATO military alliance.

He can’t give you answer because he is either TV-head zombie or one of those FSB web team creatures. Last one is more likely. Any of his posts I’ve read say so. All of them from cliché kit generated by government TV propaganda machine.

I don’t understand Russia’s passivity either, Russian Paul.  Why give Nato overland accesss to Afghanistan if it is encroaching aggressively on Russia?

You are right, Johannes, Obama is MORE dangerous than Bush because he leads the Progressives in militaristic adventures.  The Dems and Gops have always been Bipartisan in its homicidal foreign policies, and the ruling class has relied on the Dems to lead Progressives to the slaughter.

According to former Trident missile engineer Bob Aldridge-www.plrc.org-the Pentagon aims to achieve a disarming and unanswerable first-strike capability. And according to Bob Aldridge the US Navy can track and destroy all enemy submarines simultaneously. Minuteman-3 and Trident-2 D5 linked to NAVSTAR obtain a CEP of 30-40 metres, enough to destroy any hard target. Please see the article by Keir Lieber and Daryl Press, “The Rise of US Nuclear Primacy” in the 2006 March/April issue of Foreign Affairs. A First-Strike Capability won´t be complete without the missiles in Poland to shoot down any surviving Russian missiles. Even if it´s only for blackmail, the Russians may have no choice but implementing Launch On Warning. Bob Aldridge resigned because a disarming and unanswerable first-strike capability is suicidal.

Well one day it will say boem, I hope this time the USA also geth something from this boem, its so easy to destroy other country’s and people with your drones, and go to the church on sunday.

People who think, will come to the moment that they also belief this can’t go on for ever, this politic of war out name of freedom has to stop, and it are the American citizen who has to do that, like Vietnam.

Who wants this aggressive U.S. policy and posture against Russia?  Arms manufacturers, the Pentagon and military contractors.  Why?  Because it brings them money and power.  Who are their victims?  You, me, and everybody on either side of whatever battles result from these aggressive moves.  Is oil at stake?  Maybe, but the main issue is militarism which has its hands around the government’s throat, apparently.  How to stop it?  Knowledge is power, but not enough by itself. Wise counter-action is required.  Knowledge plus wise counter-action equals
possibility for a human future.  Otherwise, probably not.

Wasting U.S. tax money and resources in Georgia while managing to be provocative and piss off Russia in their own backyard?

Who thought this up?

You mean Saakashvili. Yes, the way that thug treats dissidents in his country makes Russia seem like a leader of human rights.
The US, Israel and friends take the Caspian pipeline rather seriously, I think this is what this is mostly about. And trying to isolate Russia. It’s a very dangerous game Obama is playing. We are still setting up the missile defense shield in Poland, right? That is basically a declaration of war, I’m suprised how reserved Russia has been in dealing with the US.

No Aarky, the US power structure isn’t stupid, its insane.  the military is not responsible, Obama is. He, like Bush, is supporting the president, lonnyaskvili and the foreign minister zionistashvili, to prevent Russia from becoming too friendly with Western Europe.

Obama following Bush’s putting military pressure on Russia is probably the most dangerous and demented thing he has done so far.  But we have to look forward not backward; he will probably do crazier things.

this has driven China and Russia together, and Russia has given a billion dollar loan to Moldavia, a very small country.  So the US is now countering a united China-russia in East Europe.  Following Bryzinski’s derange chessboard plan.

Are these folks stupid ot what? The last time the Russians kicked the Hell out of the Georgians, the Israeli trainers had to run like rabbits to get out of the way and the Russians drove all our US supplied Humvees back when they left. Someone has to tell our military to wise up and get some lessons in Realpolitic and explain very carefully that this is not the place to poke the Russian bear with a stick to see if it growls.
