Bill Clinton Reportedly Wins Freedom for 2 U.S. Journalists in N. KoreaPosted on Aug 4, 2009
Although his wife is usually the one making headlines about international relations these days, former President Bill Clinton put on his diplomat’s hat Tuesday, visiting North Korea in an attempt to negotiate the release of two American journalists jailed there. Update: The North Korean media has reported that Clinton’s efforts were successful and that Kim Jong Il has ordered the release of journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee.

The unspoken Red Elephant in the room is the ongoing state of hostilities a.k.a. The Korean War. We have never attempted to resolve this conflict which festers and produces the occasional international incident. Obviously Mr. Cheerleader should assign Bill’s wife to meet with North and South Korea, and hammer out an accord. Otherwise diplomacy will continue to suffer.
Of course I agree the two journalists are hardly among the free but were I in their shoes, I’d rather be in American totalitarianism than the North Korean equivalent. The food’s better here, believe it or not.

The two women apparently did something pretty dumb but is that a reason for letting them stew 12 years in a NK “gulag”? It is fairly obvious to me that the pair would never have made it into a novel of John Le Carre. If they spied for the CIA, which I doubt, then the CIA needs some serious housecleaning.

Good grief some folks are just so totally useless they cant do anything but find fault with a really good outcome to a really bad situation. Maybe THEY need some below the belt comfort.
Kudos to Clinton, Gore, Robertson and all the other folks who made this happen.
Raspberry’s to the dumbbells who do not have a clue what diplomacy requires! Glad you’re not in charge!

Did you just see Laura Ling on TV??
Totally brainwashed! She actually said she was glad to be home and “free” again! God, the CIA brainwashers work fast! Doesn’t she know she’s just been transfered from one slavemaster to another? All in the name of showbiz. Her speech sounded like she was accepting an Oscar!
And, yo, “sphere”. Them Asian chicks is almost black, so cut them some slack. Feel me?

No class, rollzone? Take a look in the mirror. The fact is, these kinds of problems can’t be solved by calling the North Koreans part of the Axis of Evil and threatening them. Terrorism and repressive regimes can’t be fixed by military invasions and gimmmicky slogans: diplomacy is very important and the Bush Crime Corporation didn’t believe in it. Relations with North Korea went backwards drastically under their ‘government’. As did relations with Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran and Russia and well, the whole world basically. Relations with Israel and a lot of corrupt Middle East dictatorships flourished, however. Whatever you do in life, you have to know how to get on with other people and even if you’re a superpower you can’t treat others with contempt and have no consequences from it.If what’s happened in Iraq and Afganistan doesn’t teach you that, you’re unteachable.

Thank you Bill Clinton for getting these poor journalists out of there!
Report thisBut I am disappointed at how the media is covering this. Saying that Euna Lee and Laura Ling were just “jailed there” is a huge understatement of what being sentenced to hard labor in North Korea actually means. It is not an understatement to compare it to being sentenced to a Nazi death camp. One only needs to read the accounts of prisoners who have actually survived and escaped these prison camps to understand this. And everyone else should be aware of how extreme North Korea is.
Thank you to Bill Clinton and to every one else that helped to secure their release. And to Ms. Lee and Ms. Ling, we are all so glad you are back home!!

Maybe they can send Bill Clinton to the United States to intervene on behalf of the twenty million workers who are losing their homes, their cars and their life savings. The out of touch rulers there just won’t listen to anyone else. Who do we have to kidnap?

rollzone- you’re an idiot.
Good for Bill! And welcome home to Mss. Ling and Lee.
I’m just waiting for more predictable comments from all the predictable Truthdiggers about how the evil U.S. made it “necessary” for Kim to sentence the two women to twelve years’ hard labor for the “grave crime” (N. Korea’s characterization) of entering uninvited the paradise that is the PRK.

I am absolutely sure that the parents of the two women would hold rollzone in utter contempt if they read his/her comment.
