Extreme Makeover: Bagram Prison EditionPosted on Jul 20, 2009
The New York Times reports that a U.S. military review calls for “overhauling the troubled American-run prison [at Bagram Air Base] as well as the entire Afghan jail and judicial systems, a reaction to worries that abuses and militant recruiting within the prisons are helping to strengthen the Taliban.” Bagram, of course, is the notorious torture prison maintained by U.S. forces in Afghanistan. In addition to a systemic overhaul, anonymous officials told the paper, reforms would include vocational training and inmates “would be taught about moderate Islam with the aim of reintegrating them into society.” Advertisement New and Improved CommentsIf you have trouble leaving a comment, review this help page. This is the alternate Guantanamo so-to-speak. It is one of the constellation of prisons kept mostly out of the light of reporting and updates. Gitmo was the only show prison or Potempkin village in use. Without it the one bleary eye into the black blot secret prison/torture complex run by the USA will be closed. We need to close everyone of these things, abominations to our Bill of Rights and do a massive open air inventory of each and every one of them! Then prosecute from the top down.
Until we do we are all living a lie concerning the Constitution and Bill of Rights in this so-called “Land of the Free.”
