The ship had set sail for Gaza from the Cypriot port of Larnaca on Monday.

The Israeli navy has seized a boat carrying 20 peace activists trying to deliver food, medicine and school supplies to the Gaza Strip. The trip was carried out by the Free Gaza Movement in defiance of Israel’s blockade of Gaza, in place since Hamas took control of the area in 2007. Among the passengers were Nobel Peace Prize laureate Mairead Corrigan Maguire and former U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney.

BBC:

Israeli forces have boarded a ship trying to carry aid and pro-Palestinian activists to the Gaza Strip in defiance of Israel’s blockade of the territory.

The 20 passengers include former US congresswoman Cynthia McKinney and Nobel Prize winner Mairead Maguire.

Ms McKinney described it as “an outrageous violation of international law”, as the boat was on a humanitarian mission and was not in Israeli waters.

“I’m sick of the way the media hypes the palestinians and their terror regime as they launch rockets at Jewish children my grandparents were HOLOCAUST survivors thank god the didn’t live to see the world turn on the Jews once again. If the palestinians really wanted peace then stop killing Israeli children but no the whole world condems us for defending this tiny little country of ours from the sea of fanatic Muslims!!!! God promised this land to the Jews free of palestinians and fat black Americans!!!”

Sick to your racist bones sure you are! But “Chosenbygod” you’re not. Possibly, you meant to say “Chosen by Satan” which really fits your type.

One thing made made relatively happy about your rant; and that’s in your psychic state you imagine that the world is on the side of Palestinian. How wonderful for a change! But keep posing your racist rants, so, perchance, the world would move to the side of your victims!

Out of breath, Nefesh? Not hardly. But you’re out of ideas aren’t you? Are you now saying Cynthia Mckinney is immoral for wanting to draw attention to what Israel is still doing to the people of Gaza but Israel didn’t behave immorally in Gaza? You must be living at a very high altitude because the oxygen is not getting through to your brain. And drop that kindergarten whine about ‘why don’t you blame the Arabs instead?’ As if the blame game ever got the human race anywhere. And in any case, pointing the finger at the Arabs has always been done only to draw attention away from Israel’s disastrous foreign policy - if you can call murder a foreign policy.

Why is this act of war becoming a personal attack on McKinney? Just like Israel, hiding behind the real truth just like they’re doing with the settlement issue when the real issue is giving up stolen land.

Israel Kidnaps Peace Boat Crew

Pirates of the Mediterranean

By PAUL CRAIG ROBERTS

“On June 30, the government of Israel committed an act of piracy when the Israeli Navy in international waters illegally boarded the “Spirit of Humanity,” kidnapped its 21-person crew from 11 countries, including former US Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney and Nobel Laureate Mairead MaGuire, and confiscated the cargo of medical supplies, olive trees, reconstruction materials, and children’s toys that were on the way to the Mediterranean coast of Gaza. The “Spirit of Humanity,” along with the kidnapped 21 persons, is being towed to Israel as I write.

Gaza has been described as the “world’s largest concentration camp.” It is home to 1.5 million Palestinians who were driven by force of American-supplied Israeli arms out of their homes, off their farms, and out of their villages so that Israel could steal their land and make the Palestinian land available to Israeli settlers.

What we have been witnessing for 60 years is a replay in modern times, despite the United Nations and laws strictly preventing Israel’s theft of Palestine, of the 17th, 18th, and 19th century theft of American Indian lands by US settlers. An Israeli government spokesman recently rebuked the President of the United States, a country, the Israeli said, who stole all of its land from Indians, for complaining about Israel’s theft of Palestine.

I knew the “Spirit of Humanity” would fall to Israeli piracy the minute I received on June 25 from an official of an Israeli peace organization a “public advisory” that the government of Cyprus had withheld permission for the “Spirit of Humanity” to leave for Gaza. The US State Department had advised that “The Israeli Foreign Ministry informed U.S. officials at the American Embassy in Tel Aviv that Israel still considers Gaza an area of conflict and that any boats attempting to sail to Gaza will not be permitted to reach its destination.” The “Spirit of Humanity” obtained permission to leave Cyprus when all aboard signed a waiver absolving Cyprus of all responsibility for the crew’s safety at the hands of the Israelis.

As President Obama has called for humanitarian aid to be sent to Gaza, and as the International Red Cross has damned the inhumanity of Israel’s blockade of Gaza, the question that immediately comes to mind is why did not the United States send sufficient US Navy escort to see the “Spirit of Humanity” safely through international waters to Gaza? We send ships against Somalian pirates, why not against Israeli ones?”

Israel Attacks Justice Boat:

Kidnaps Human Rights Workers; Confiscates Medicine, Toys and Olive Trees

By Free Gaza

“June 30, 2009 “Free Gaza ”—- [23 miles off the coast of Gaza, 15:30pm] - Today Israeli Occupation Forces attacked and boarded the Free Gaza Movement boat, the SPIRIT OF HUMANITY, abducting 21 human rights workers from 11 countries, including Noble laureate Mairead Maguire and former U.S. Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney (see below for a complete list of passengers). The passengers and crew are being forcibly dragged toward Israel.

“This is an outrageous violation of international law against us. Our boat was not in Israeli waters, and we were on a human rights mission to the Gaza Strip,” said Cynthia McKinney, a former U.S. Congresswoman and presidential candidate. “President Obama just told Israel to let in humanitarian and reconstruction supplies, and that’s exactly what we tried to do. We’re asking the international community to demand our release so we can resume our journey.”

According to an International Committee of the Red Cross report released yesterday, the Palestinians living in Gaza are “trapped in despair.” Thousands of Gazans whose homes were destroyed earlier during Israel’s December/January massacre are still without shelter despite pledges of almost $4.5 billion in aid, because Israel refuses to allow cement and other building material into the Gaza Strip. The report also notes that hospitals are struggling to meet the needs of their patients due to Israel’s disruption of medical supplies.

“The aid we were carrying is a symbol of hope for the people of Gaza, hope that the sea route would open for them, and they would be able to transport their own materials to begin to reconstruct the schools, hospitals and thousands of homes destroyed during the onslaught of “Cast Lead”. Our mission is a gesture to the people of Gaza that we stand by them and that they are not alone” said fellow passenger Mairead Maguire, winner of a Noble Peace Prize for her work in Northern Ireland.

Just before being kidnapped by Israel, Huwaida Arraf, Free Gaza Movement chairperson and delegation co-coordinator on this voyage, stated that: “No one could possibly believe that our small boat constitutes any sort of threat to Israel. We carry medical and reconstruction supplies, and children’s toys. Our passengers include a Nobel peace prize laureate and a former U.S. congressperson. Our boat was searched and received a security clearance by Cypriot Port Authorities before we departed, and at no time did we ever approach Israeli waters.”

Arraf continued, “Israel’s deliberate and premeditated attack on our unarmed boat is a clear violation of international law and we demand our immediate and unconditional release.”

WHAT YOU CAN DO!”

Israel knows Hitlerism, and applies it on a daily basis.
How many Gaza babies have you killed today, Israel?

Since you must be fact-checking like a real pro, why don’t you tell us how many Israel has “killed today”?

While you are at it, and to be honest and fair (you are interested in being honest and fair, aren’t you?), tell us what culpability and reponsibility Hamas has for the health and welfare of people living in Gaza: deaths as a result of Hamas using armed force directed against the very Gazan Arabs who chose them for rulers, and indirectly through policies - diverting vast amounts of financial amd material aid for their own uses, launching thousands of missiles against Israeli civilians thus drawing legitimate defensive response from Israel, denying passage for thousands of patients for treatment in Israeli hospitals for purely political reasons, commandeering private residences for use as firing positions against Israeli forces (often using the residents as human shields in the proces - yet another Hamas war crime by any definition), and on and on….

Most people see the US, Israel and all Jews as one and the same. The unspeakable way the Israelis treat the Palestinians is supported by huge amounts of money and military hardware by the US. The dreadful indiscriminate bombing of Gaza was viewed with horror and condemnation throughout the world except from the US where the silence was deafening. It’s time that Americans and Jews worldwide realized that Zionists are thugs and bullies and that by supporting them, or not condemning them, they are accomplices.

Calling the IDF aerial operations in Gaza “indiscriminate” does not, in fact, make them so, and they were not. But then, you are not here to post reasoned arguments leavened with facts, so go ahead and make yourself feel good about your missplaced righteous fury.

And the vast majority of Jews in the world support Israel wholeheartedly, and for very good reasons. If you had even a semi-open mind you would learn what those reasons are. But that’s up to you. And contrary to the prevailing Contingent party line here, Americans are not stupid or misinformed, and their staunch support of Israel comes from an understanding for Israel’s actual, real-world situation and not the ANSWER-pamphlet version you promote.

To call a woman of Cynthia McKinney’s morality..uh, no, it’s precisely these kinds of publicity stunts (and her willfull blindness to the suffering of the Jews and other victims of Arab violence) that makes her behavior and posturing truly immoral... and integrity a whore and a cunt says nothing whatsoever about her but it says everything about you Nefesh...everything? You don’t know anything at all about me other than my scorn for the gang-bang scapegoating and demonizing you and your Contingent pals practice daily here… You are a racist...not hardly; McKinney’s skin color has nothing to do with her failures as a human being… and a sexist...again, not hardly;
McKinney’s failures as a human being have zero to do with which set of reproductive organs she was born with…
and a foul mouthed fanatic...I am foul-mouthed when the situation requires smile but then, you have libeled me as a racist and misogynist and that is truly a foul-mouthed and unfounded smear… who cannot see any criticism of or challenge to Israel’s murderous policies without reacting with intolerance and obscenity...I most certainly can, but your problem is you don’t know how to criticize fairly... With friends like you Israel doesn’t need any enemies. The defenders of Israel, I’ve noticed (and not only on this site) are often notable for their foul mouths and hatred of women. The blood libel? God, get real will you. Of course you would rather talk about the blood libel than the slaughter...hysterical hyperbolic rhetoric; any defensive action by Israel that results in unfortunate deaths will be labeled as ‘slaughter’ by you, so no reasonable discussion is possible on this subject, and THAT’S a real tragedy for everyone… of women and children and unarmed civilians generally in Gaza. You are so transparent. Of course it’s impossible to defend the indefensible so you start spewing obscenities, preferring to throw heat and not light on the actions of the IDF. It’s absolutely typical of Israel to criminalize people who are behaving in a humane way and to de-criminalize murder and violations of international law by their own military. It’s now the norm for them to do this, but the trouble is, no one believes what propaganda merchants like Mark Regev say any more and no one trusts Israel to act in good faith in any peace negotiations. None of this is about anti-semitism or historic relics like the blood libel and you know it: that’s just a smokescreen....you must be out of breath after that tantrum; will you now devote equal time and energy to lay blame on the Arabs and their sycophants for their immense culpability in this huge tragedy?....

The problem with the likes of Nefesh is that he is a Choleh Nefesh.

He refuses to comprehend the very simple fact that some Israelis (read: Jews) oppose and reject Zionism. They understand the distinction between Zionism and Judaism. One is an ideology, the other is a religion.

Nefesh is either a paranoid nincompoop or a propagandist and a hack.

Thanks Truthdig for publishing this important info. I didn’t notice this story on the front of any major newspaper. It’s time for everyone with justice in their hearts to take action. Contact your politicians immediately to get these brave human rights workers freed. Israel is becoming more transparent in it’s ruthless disregard for human rights but they still weild enormous clout.
We all need to lobby politicians to remove the 2 year old blockade that the Red Cross and Jimmy Carter find outrageous and violates international law. Hundreds of thousands of children and civilians are being treated worse than animals. It must stop!
Boycott, sanction and divest any business or politician that benefits from the Israeli Occupation starting with Starbucks, Motorola, and Caterpillar. This is how justice came to South Africa. It can work to free Gaza and Palestine from its oppressor.

Any nation which claims a single religion to be at the core of its existence is usually a major source of vicious arrogance. These states usually try to prove the superiority of their gods through lies, violence, and greed. Your great male deity is a nasty bastard if HE is manifest through these means.

Storm Over Dr. Blachar

Israeli Doctors Collude in Torture

By JONATHAN COOK

Nazareth.

“Israel’s watchdog body on medical ethics has failed to investigate evidence that doctors working in detention facilities are turning a blind eye to cases of torture, so Israeli human rights groups charge.

The Israeli Medical Association (IMA) has ignored repeated requests to examine such evidence, the rights groups say, even though it has been presented with examples of Israeli doctors who have broken their legal and ethical duty towards Palestinians in their care.

The accusations will add fuel to a campaign backed by hundreds of doctors from around the world to force Yoram Blachar, who heads the IMA, to step down from his recent appointment as president of the World Medical Association (WMA).

More than 700 doctors have signed a petition arguing that Dr Blachar has disqualified himself from leadership of the WMA, the profession’s governing ethical body, by effectively condoning torture in Israel.

The campaign against Dr Blachar has gained ground rapidly since his appointment as president in November. Critics said his alleged complicity in the use of torture in Israeli detention facilities can be traced to 1995, when he became chairman of the IMA.

Until 1999, when Israel’s Supreme Court restricted torture, Israeli doctors routinely supervised the medical treatment of abused detainees, mostly Palestinians from the occupied territories.

During that period Dr Blachar surprised many colleagues by expressing support for Israeli interrogators’ use of “moderate physical pressure” in a letter to The Lancet, the British medical journal. The phrase covers a wide range of practices from beatings and binding prisoners in painful positions to sleep deprivation. It is regarded by human rights organisations as a euphemism for torture.

Despite the 1999 court ruling, a coalition of 14 Israeli human rights groups known as United Against Torture concluded in its latest annual report in November that Israeli detention facilities are still using torture systematically. Israeli doctors are also being relied on to treat the resulting injuries.

Last week, Physicians for Human Rights and the Public Committee against Torture in Israel published a joint report examining hundreds of arrests in which Palestinians were bound in “distorted and unnatural” ways to inflict “pain and humiliation” amounting to torture.

The report cited instances where prisoners, including a pregnant woman and a dying man, were shackled while doctors carried out emergency procedures in a hospital.

According to the report, the doctors violated the Tokyo Declaration, the key code of medical ethics adopted by the WMA in 1975 that bans the use of cruel, humiliating or inhuman treatment by physicians.”

This was a publicity stunt by McKinney and others, nothing more.

Their intention was to get intercepted. They could have driven the aid in trucks right across the freaking border into Gaza once the IDF checked it for weapons or contraband. This is a Naval blockade, not an aid blockade.

But of course, they couldn’t have gotten any press, and that would have done little for McKinney’s continuing political aspirations.

Bingo, Frank. She is a complete publicity whore. Why risk being in a totally avoidable confrontation with the navy rather than providing aid through the most direct channels? What rhymes with “publicity stunt” and begins with “c”........

This is the Aipac wing of Zionism which all American Zionists support in practice, whatever they say in rhetoric.  Last time an Israeli gunboat rammed the rescue ship, which just managed to get to port.

It is the Ziofascist policy of Israel which is starving the Palestinian people in Gaza, with, as Diamand says, not only US approval but US money.  And it is Ziofascists like Nefesh that give it to them, taking it from the American people.

Israeli obstinance at a 2 state solution should not be rewarded by the US turning a blind eye toward the aggressive tendencies and bullying of a sovereign people!  There can be no negotiations until Israel puts down it’s (US supplied)arms and come to the table in earnest willing to compromise!

Israel has violated innumerable UN sanctions and mandates, and they have no intention of giving anything!  It is time to help Israel help itself - divest!  NO MORE AID IS ONE WAY OF GETTING THEIR ATTENTION!  You cannot reason and plead with a bully, you have to take a stand - NOW IS THE TIME!

Your caps remind me of that heartwarming chant always heard at the “anti-war” and “peace” marches:

“From The River To The Sea
      Palestine Will Be Free”

You have a lots of demands of Israel: “put down weapons”, “come to the table”, “give”, “compromise in earnest”.....

What do you demand from the Arabs in general, and of the Palestinian Arabs in particular?

Finally, you refer (obliquely) to “sovereign people”. The only sovereign party mentioned by name is the nation of Israel. The Arabs of Gaza, Judea and Samaria are not now sovereign, nor have they ever been. Perhaps you meant to say you would also like to see the Palestinian Arabs enjoy sovereignty?

No, Folktruther, this lawlessness is PAID FOR by the United States. There’s no money for Americans, for their health care or to pay them decent wages but there’s always money for the Israeli army, navy and air force. In September last year the Pentagon approved numerous shipments of arms to Israel - which they used to butcher babies and old women (you know how threatening they can be) and shoot down entire families in Gaza. Their crime? They exercised their right to vote. Israel’s foreign policy is a form of madness and their starvation of the people of Gaza is a crime against humanity which should be condemned by the UN but never will be because America will veto any such condemnation. Obviously the Israeli form of madness is contagious. Look at the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. And look at how America only negotiates with Mahmoud Abbas who DIDN’T win the election. What message does that send to the third world? How can you preach to them about democracy when you don’t respect it yourselves, at home or abroad.
