U.S. soldiers patrol an area of Baghdad in April.

An American soldier was taken into custody after shooting five fellow military personnel to death and wounding three others in Baghdad on Monday. The incident, which occurred at a combat stress center, marks the highest single-incident death toll for the U.S. military since April. Another American soldier was killed by a roadside bomb near Basra. These events take place just two months before U.S. troops are set to withdraw from Iraqi urban bases.

The Guardian:

Stress is one of the biggest killers of US soldiers in Iraq. About a fifth of all US troops are thought to be suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, contributing to high divorce and suicide rates. An estimated one fifth of the 4,292 members of the US force [killed] in Iraq have died from non-combat causes, either in accidents or from suicide.

An estimated five soldiers in Iraq try to commit suicide each day. Between September last year and last month, more US troops, 72, died from accidents, illness or suicide than from combat, 67.

They will also “diagnose” “personality disorder” as often as possible, so that they wont have to pay PTSD or TBI disability, nor pay for medical care.

I worked with many Vietnam vets who were given the shit end ofthe stick that way.

I had some papers that showed that the brass ordered psychs to do that (thats why you see so many PD’s)

I also have a tape of a Brass telling a soldier who said he was suicidal to “go ahead a get rid of dead wood”...I hope that they get that general next time someone goes off…

Many of the soldiers have been in combat longer than any WWII soldier ever experienced.  And WWII battles were brutal and stressful, but they were reletively short campaigns followed by long waiting periods, where soldiers in Iraq are under constant threat for long periods.

With the military now estimating a PTSD rate of 20%, this nation is going to have a large number of very screwed up individuals to deal with for a very long time.

This is another crime Dick Bush need to hang for.

Well, at least he wasn’t a criminal.  You know how “they” are when they get their hands on guns.

And it’s a good thing he’s a soldier: that means he deserves our support and respect, because he was obviously fighting for our “freedoms”.  So say wingnuts who draft-dodge and refuse to enlist to fight in the wars they support.

“Fragging” is the colloquial term I’ve heard used for killing your fellow soldiers.  “Fratricide” and “Friendly Fire”  were the terms used several years ago to warn the country of the inevitable eventualities and realities of WAR.  Some say we are fighting two wars . . . one in Iraq and one in Afghanistan.  Now Obama can become immune to the body count that started with GW and is tragically continuing in two undeclared wars.

Yesterday there were FIVE American soldiers killed by one of their own in Iraq. Just before that,  there were more than a 100 civilians including children mistakenly killed in Afghanistan.  Hasn’t the insanity of all of this violence registered in the hearts and minds of the leaders of our Country ? Who cares about Michelle Obama’s bare arms when there is an Arms Race going on among the incestantly foolish men of this world.

But, the MSM, (CNN) still reported that “..whether it was combat stress related we dont know…doctor, did this soldier have a mental disorder?”

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, probably a “personality disorder”, which is the new “missed diagnosis” given most often to avoid diagnosing PTSD or TBI, and, perhaps having to pay disability benefits…

This is laughable: (not “funny ha ha”)
“The shooter is a US soldier and he is in custody,” said US marine corps lieutenant Tom Garnett, a US military spokesman in Iraq. “This is certainly an unexpected and tragic event,” said Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman…

So unexpected!!

I do not understand the people who are saying that it is an “insult to soldiers and vets” to say that they may be more prone to respond with violence—-that is what you taught them before you brought them home to work at Wal Mart! It is, instead, a reflection on the Brass and the Pentagon and the White HOuse.

sad…..but like the great corporate fortuneteller Dick Cheney predicts….it was bound to happen….but since Dick & George don’t take responsibility for the 9/11 attack thanks to corporate media propaganda…..& Dick Cheney and his corporate media managers are laying the foundation for Dick Cheney’s triumphant” I told you so Democrats”{Indpendents excluded cause that puts GOP in itsy bitsy minority} WHEN (not if) intell operatives ooops again! we missed the warnings & innocent Americans die. we were listening to John Edward’s mistress!

I’m waiting for the corporate WMD media to hold Cheney & Rush’s feet to the fire on the coming return of PTSD vets & the real threat they pose to innocent American civilians.  Or tape of Rush’s hate filled rhetoric pointing out Dems/Independents as targets( on the public record.) When American had a trustworthy Legal system, persons who inflame mentally ill veterans are called co-conspirators & accessories after the fact.  No jobs…..PTSD….easy access to guns/WMD or is there a GOP number limit?...imaginary weapons are still touted by Cheney as excuse for illegal torture…pistols & rifles are at least real so they should be WMD before imaginary Yellow Cake, Winnebego chem labs etc )

MSNBC even trotted out Liz Cheney to share her vast expertise on torture but not torture….when we say… when a pretend scenario makes the Bravado crowd afraid….it will only get more convaluted & pathetic as corporate America tries to cover for Cheney, Bush, Rove, Gonzales, Hoo,Judge Digny etc…...

Fadel said “This is just the tip of the iceberg! Wait till thousands of those mentally-disturbed and severely depressed soldiers come back home to roost, then you will hear about such massacres every week!”
My thoughts exactly. There is a reason Homeland Security put returning soldiers on their watch list. These damaged guys are going to come home to a country that shows them little gratitude and with little employment prospects. Some will react in the way they were trained.

It is difficult for me to feel sympathy for ” half million brainwashed soldiers {sent} half way around the world to fight self-made-enemies, or support puppet governments to suppress and kill their own peoples.” It is the friends families & spouses& children of such puppets that live lives of hell on earth as a consequence that I feel for.

This is just the tip of the iceberg! Wait till thousands of those mentally-disturbed and severely depressed soldiers come back home to roost, then you will hear about such massacres every week!

Political-military America might have the evil will and the deadly weapons of mass destruction to deploy half million brainwashed soldiers half way around the world to fight self-made-enemies, or support puppet governments to suppress and kill their own peoples.

Yet America keeps failing miserably in understanding basic human psychology about how prolong wars have the effect of robing the soldiers from their basic humanity and souls. Eventually, a soldier’s psychic is acclimated to see killing as the natural thing to do for it was the thing they were trained to do and practice for long time. It reaches a point where everyone is seen as an enemy!
