“Say cheese, New York City!”: Air Force One flying low over New York Harbor during a federal government photo op on April 27.
On Friday, the White House Military Office director resigned after stirring beaucoup controversy by authorizing Air Force One, trailed by two fighter jets, to fly low over Manhattan on April 27. The incident brought up all too recent memories for New Yorkers, sending thousands of panicked workers out into the streets.
The New York Times:
Louis Caldera, who served as the secretary of the Army in the Clinton administration, apologized for the “distraction” that approving the flyover caused. He said in a brief letter to President Obama on Friday that it “has made it impossible for me to effectively lead the White House Military Office.”
[...] It was a photo opportunity – authorized by several government officials, including Mr. Caldera – that infuriated Mr. Obama.
