Pastor Says Border Patrol Worked Him OverPosted on Apr 17, 2009
Pastor Steven Anderson of Tempe, Ariz., says he was Tasered, assaulted and denied medical treatment after he refused to submit to a search by Border Patrol officers at an immigration checkpoint east of San Diego. The ACLU has called the area a “Constitution-free zone” where such abuse has become commonplace. For related stories, check out an amazing Twitter feed by “Injust_Seattle,” which collects reports of alleged police and Border Patrol abuses across the country.

Now that the u.s. supreme court on April 21, 2009 made a ruling limiting the searching of vehicles without warrants, perhaps you can have the ruling retroactivated to include your case and seek for damages? Good luck!

Re: Folktruther
I understand your point and agree with you regarding the premise that no one should be treated this way, I guess I’m not yet convinced that he was. Remember, poor ol’ Joe the Plumber…. just a stunt.
I find this particular altercation suspect. The local Fox station is going to interview him…..could be legit but maybe not. “Pastor Anderson”, according to his web site, is appearing on Alex Jones’ program also. The fact that all these bankster led “tea parties” were calling Obama a fascist.
The fact that “Pastor Anderson” himself is venomous towards Obama and advocates all sorts of bizarre things; “We believe that homosexuality is a sin and an abomination which God punishes with the death penalty.” There’s the chop your eye out comments and the evil naked people, and if you read it, nakedness includes those “naked people” wearing shorts above their KNEE, and evil women who wear pants.
I don’t sense that this was the happenstance occurrence that it is being portrayed to be. It could have been, but something seems .... oh, .... amiss. I guess I’ll wait to see the video from the other “camp” before I determine anything.
Remember, you’re dealing with the right-wing element here and they tend to take such great delight in “appearances”. This “pastor” seems right up their alley…..no? I can easily imagine that with several children he could use a couple of extra bucks.
But the “bedding” thing really touched my heart, especially since just the week before he brought home his wife that cute ring. I’d love to see the receipts for these items, cause my god….. this sounds so classic. (It’s like the white-trash version of “Desperate Housewives”.)

Three Big Issues at work here:
One: WTF are we doing operating “border check points” where there is no border? That a border is 50 or 100 miles away must be confirmed as irrelevant. There’s another such checkpoint NORTH of San Diego on route to Los Angeles. Checkpoints at our international border crossings are reasonable. Checkpoints a hundred miles within our borders, within one state, are unreasonable.
IV Amendment: “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”
Two: WTF does anyone’s political beliefs have to do with the price of potatoes? Like Folktruther and others have said: IRRELEVANT! (Geez people, get out your Constitution and read the damned thing.)
Three: Possibly the stupidist of all is asking, “Isn’t it usually the people who have something to hide who refuse to cooperate with any authority figure?”
Wow. Unbelievable ignorance. If you listen carefully maybe you can hear the signers of the Constitution rolling in their graves.

Outraged- This guy may be a religious dingaling with barbaric values. That is TOTALLY IRRELVANT to him being brutalized by the police. If the police can brutalize him, they can brutalize you, your children, and your family. The population has to stick togehter to oppose oppressive power. Of ANYONE, race, creed, color or ideological orientation.
Of course I’m not saying that you should him allow to marry your sister. But that is a different issue, within populations, not between the population and the power system.

some people will do almost anything to get attention for whatever their gripe is—and a drug sniffing dog? well the pastor MIGHT NOT be a “user” but maybe he had someone in his car who did and——“truth will set him free”!!!! I reckon!

This pastor simply doesn’t seem legit. He wails about fascism on his blog but yet is one of the most intolerant of people. He says Obama is the devil and a murder. He is set to appear on his local fox station according to his “family” blog and also on Alex Jones…. hmmmm, why do I smell a rat. A few of the doctrines of his specific “church”:
We believe that the unsaved will spend eternity in torment in a literal hell.
We believe that homosexuality is a sin and an abomination which God punishes with the death penalty.
We oppose worldliness, modernism, formalism, and liberalism.

He wrote this in one of his bizarre essays:
“The Roman Catholic Church is on one side of the spectrum as being totally opposed to the truth of the gospel. They teach a difficult salvation by doing good works and living a good life in addition to believing on Jesus Christ. Then there are the various Protestants and Pentecostals who believe watered down versions of this very same doctrine. Sometimes it is disguised by a belief that one is saved by grace through faith, but that salvation can be lost by committing some grievous sin or falling away from the things of God. Then at the other side of the spectrum is the independent, fundamental Baptist preaching salvation by grace through faith plus nothing minus nothing.”
In another, he wrote this, (it appears he has some SERIOUS issues with…. naked people) he goes on and on about it:
“Yeah, right. Good night. He is a man. He is a red blooded man like anybody else. Do you know what every male gynecologist ought to do? He ought to take a scalpel and a lancet and cut out his own eye and throw it in the trash. That is what the Bible says. He ought to just remove his own eye. I am not kidding. He has got all the tools to do it. He ought to do it.
I am telling you what. Hey, why don’t you decide whether you believe that nudity is even a sin. But, see, we have twisted the Bible and said it is only a sin if you think a dirty thought. Hey, it is dirty just to look at it. You have already gotten dirty right there. Period.”

My favorite was his wife’s comment though @ the family blog site. Apparently he bought some bedding (although they look suspeciously like hotel bedding), anyway this made his wife happy it seems, she said:
“Then on Saturday, he helped me rearrange our bedroom and the boys’. Then he took off to the store and when he came back, locked himself into our bedroom with his “surprise” - he had bought a fancy new set of sheets for our bed.
I jokingly remarked that he and I shop at totally different stores - he goes to all the fancy stores while I shop at thrift stores and Ross. I never go the mall, and the only time I go to a department store is when I have the kids’ portraits taken at J.C. Penney.
But yes, I’m very spoiled. Thank you, honey!
”
I’m not kidding, check it out:

I was in Boulevard, California in February and April of this year to compete in bicycle road races. The area was crawling with Border Patrol vehicles. These are very rural roads, but are near the border fence and Interstate 8 runs through the area. There are more Border Patrol vehicles in this area than there are police in the County of San Diego. They routinely speed on these roads and act as if they are in complete control of the area. This is a dangerous place.

First, let me say that even though I think this pastor is off his rocker with some of his views, that doesn’t change the fact that he is still entitled to the same rights as you and I. Second, for those of you that think “he got what he deserved”, I think it’s a real shame that you are willing to condone the beating of an innocent man by a bunch of over-compensating thugs simply because this man had the audacity to actually stand up for his rights as guaranteed by our Constitution. Like I said before, although I agree with about 0% of what I have seen of this guy online, it doesn’t change the fact that his rights were grossly violated and that is something that we should all be able to agree on.

Let me second Jackpine’s comment. This guy had the guts to stand up to oppressive power, largely fueled no doubt by his religious-political beliefs which are most likely partly delusive. Purple Girl maintains that he got what he deserved because he believed anti-Deomocratic party values.
This is how the US is becoming a police state. Violence and repression is led by the Gops and supported by the Dems. As the Dems have gone incrreasingly to the right, and become incrreasingly a form of fake Progressivism, they will endorse, and have endorsed, despotic measures to maintain their power. Including lynching deviant truthers who resist oppressive power.
Once Obama Hopesters like Purple Girl endorse violence against truthers for what they believe, as Dem leaders are increasingly doing, all pretense of democracy is at an end, power is maintained by raw brutality and barbarism.

What the American people don’t understand yet is that the War on Terrorism, like the War on Crime, the War on Drugs, etc, applies to American residents! We are the terrorists, so the power structure spying, arbitrary searches, roughing us up, road blocks, kidnapping, abitrary imprisonment, and torture applies to us as well.
A Constitution Free Zone, as the ACLU has called it, hass been created a hundred miles deep around the perimiter of the US borders, including the oceans. This Zone includes two thirds of the American people, including most Dem states. Bush and Obama both have authorized this Zone where Americans and anyone else has no rights.
People don’t know about this because the media doesn’t mention it. Including the Progressive media. But this is a Zone of despotism which you must pass through to get in and out of the country. And arbitrary checkpoints can be set up at any time like the Israelis use on the Palestinians. And Obama is continuing this Zone which Bush set up. So Bush cheerleaders don’t mention it.

Sorry folks, We live in a Constitutional Republic, not a banana republic where we have to fear being accosted by the ‘authorities’ to justify our movements. This is clearly another example of the self-proclaimed “authorities” using their power and force to show a mere citizen who is boss - the old resistance is futile syndrome. As a Constitutionalist myself I believe it is our duty to constantly question “authority” and to assert our God given, Constitutionally protected rights. WE THE PEOPLE enpower those whose job it is to protect our borders, they have no power over us. The Border Patrol fails miserably in their job of sealing our border against foreign invaders, but we see here to what lengths they’ll go to to prove to a U.S. citizen how tough they can be. These people are of the same calibre as National Socialist Brown Shirt thugs who used these tactics in 1930’s Germany. To quote Orwell’s 1984; “You want to know the future? It’s a boot smashing your face - forever!” Is that what we want from our government? Question and oppose this kind of treatment whenever and wherever you experience it or it will become our norm. Don’t allow it here in America. -Dixon Cannon

For about eleven years, I lived in Bisbee, Arizona. Yes, some of us call ourselves Bisbonians. But the point is, that ther is a line of Border Patrol checkpoints some thirty miles north of the border, on every road. North of Sierra Vista, north of Tombstone, north of Douglas, north of Sonoita (not Sonoyta, Mexico, Sonoita, AZ). Every time you want to go to “civiization” (i.e. Tucson, Phoenix, etc.) you have to go through a Border Patrol checkpoint, and be subject to search, as this pastor was, going from San Diego to Arizona. Many times I thought of standing there and saying, “No. Under the 4th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, you do not have the right to search my car.” Now we now how that would have turned out. If you get your video cameras out, BlueEagle, they will be confiscated or destroyed. It might work in an urban environment, but at these checkpoints, you are trapped. You won’t slip down a back street; you won’t get away with it. You won’t get away.
Diamond, I have been saying the same thing since 9/11…we are all going to be the terrorists.

This is the Gestapo Legacy of Bush/Cheney, and the teabaggers are too idiotic to see where it has come from - and the right wing millionaires who promote it realize how stupid these ones are. These guards should be tried and imprisoned for going WAY beyond their orders - and if they were acting within orders, it is time to start going up the chain and cleaning house. America needs to bring charges against the whole Bush White House Criminal Gang - a Special Prosecutor with some teeth, finally. This needs way more coverage in the mainsteam media - who are only too likely to continue the cover-up and blame anyone who tried to expose what’s going on.

A Baptist! How ironic. Now all of those people who couldn’t see any harm in torturing Muslims who had committed no crime might finally wake up. If these people have their way America will finally become the police state they always dreamed of. Law and order in America has been ‘out of order’ for decades because the police are a law unto themselves. Imagine if Cheney had got his beloved Patriot Act II passed into law? Then it would be strip searches at the border and trial by military panel. You already have that? Shit. My brother sent me an email from Edinburgh where he recounted how he was almost the subject of ‘rendition’ at Heathrow Airport because the Brits thought it was most suspicious that he hadn’t had a full time job at his previous address and was on his way to (ye Gods and little fishes) Prague. Imagine if they’d found out he was going there to produce a film, with a man named Davide directing! No one took me seriously when I said the terror laws would eventually be used on everyone. The forces of law and order are now officially drunk on their own testosterone. It’s a global form of madness.
