Fidel Castro arrives in Washington in 1959, the year he took power.

Barack Obama is so good at making friends. First Iran, of axis-of-evil fame, embraced the president’s flirtations, and now Cuba’s revolutionary in chief has warmed to El Diablo del Norte. Fidel Castro on Tuesday praised Obama’s recent overtures, but said many other U.S. policy changes are needed. His brother and president, Raul, is open to negotiations.

Can’t we all just get along? Yes, we can.

Reuters:

Former Cuban leader Fidel Castro on Tuesday praised the Obama administration for lifting U.S. restrictions on family travel to Cuba, but said more changes were needed in U.S. policy toward the island.

“The measure of easing the restrictions on trips is positive although minimal. Many others are needed,” Castro wrote in a column published on a Cuban government website.

We have no embargo against China.  But the Chinese “communists” are kicking our tails in the retail (aka capitalist) industry.  Start up reasonable trade and a realistic stance with Cuba and in a few years they will be selling Chevies and cheap toys back to us from their island-based factories.
When will we learn to get back to our “Yankee Trader” roots (.... and learn to make a few bucks from our neighbors) instead of saber rattling ?

Please, America, treat Cuba and Cubans like humans! As a midwestern hick, I’m tired of explaining why my favorite drink is a Cuba Libra (Coke,Lime,Rum)

If you want the columns minus the editing by Reuters, just go to http://www.granma.cu. Some of the edits are more telling then the ones in this article.

Castro mentioned the ‘Special Circumstances’ for Cuban emigrants and the resulting brain drain. But then he went on to wonder when Obama would extend the same policy to the rest of the Caribbean and Latin American countries. A cold day in hell will probably be the response…

There were also some pointed remarks about the OAS, and its actions during its lengthy history. Something along the lines of Cuba won’t join if invited - and perhaps the SA politicos asking for that to happen should think about what they are saying.

Fidel is a much better writer then I am. Reading his articles directly is much better then taking my word for what he says, or simply swallowing the MSM propaganda. There are actually 3 articles, but only 2 had been psosted when I went to the site.
