Before and after: The newspaper Yated Neeman digitally replaced the two women in the original photo with men.

An obvious Photoshop job in Israel has hilariously tried to make Israel’s inaugural Cabinet a bit more Orthodox. In one ultra-Orthodox Jewish newspaper, two female Cabinet members were cropped out of an official picture and replaced with two non-Cabinet men.

Another paper simply blacked out the two women.

The BBC:

Two ultra-Orthodox Jewish newspapers have altered a photo of Israel’s new cabinet, removing two female ministers.

Limor Livnat and Sofa Landver were grouped with the rest of the 30-member cabinet for their inaugural photo.

But Yated Neeman newspaper digitally changed the picture by replacing them with two men. The Shaa Tova newspaper blacked the women out.

Publishing pictures of women is viewed by many ultra-orthodox Jews as a violation of female modesty.

Mass movements in general require the need or desire to promote change and provides hope for those wanting change, this can be political or Religious, history repeats it self, again and again. Solutions are unknown, for they have never been, except for short periods of time, until the next movement.

Notice, I did say in general, there are different comprehensive requirements for each movement, with some basic required similarities.

To the ultra-orthodox or fundamentalist of any stripe and type the reality is wrong and they do everything they can to mask it and change it to their own distorted ancient views of how things should and must be.

Muslims are picked on because they are the new bete noir of our country who must have a vast enemy in which to ‘fight’ and to fund a military espionage complex that is funded by at least ten times the combined budgets of the top ten ‘enemies’ of the USA. Would be empires must have this in order to survive. Pirates and thuggery at the end of a “Predator” drone or troops on the ground.

Fadel,
I give you credit for honesty at least: you admit you REALLY want Israel crushed and therefore MUST want the corollary—every Jew thrown out of the Middle East, whether thrown into the ocean to drown or “thrown” out of life or just sent “somewhere else”.

You also know it ain’t gonna happen so there’s SOME logical reasoning going on in your head superior to your rabid hatred.  But not enough to endorse the 2-State solution even as the best alternative.

I don’t see you sticking up for the women victims of the Taliban, or for them against Hamid Karzai’s new edict that rape in marriage is legal.

Nor do I see you sticking up for the victims in Darfur and condemning Bashir as the monster he is—nor do I see you condemning your “freedom-loving” leaders of Arab nations for embracing Bashir.

You can’t even bring yourself to feel sympathy for the poor people in Binghamton who were murdered by this crazy f***-up.  Since I’ve walked past that red church next to the Civic Center a hundred times when I lived there, it was very close to home—even closer in some ways than the WTC—which is only 25 miles from me.

Unlike your lack of concern for anyone not Palestinian, I OTOH, really want the Palestinian people to have their own nation, to have peace, and to prosper, and to build trade and economic ties with Israel, and, eventually, a military alliance and Union similar to the EU, where they are equal partners.

If you want a reactionary, talk to Rush Limbaugh, or Ann Coultergeist or any of those fascist @$$holes on Fox Noise, not me.

As for your posts be more worth parsing than Sodium’s? So what?  That’s like being the smartest bear in the zoo.  BFD.

Fadel:

“It also doesn’t change the truth that YOUR “solution” to the Middle East problems is a war to destroy Israel, irony, sarcasm or whatever aside.”
==========================================
Two points, ITW:

1. I want to be honest with you and say what I said on other occasions, which is that “what was taken by force must be restored by force.” Of course, this means a quick war of liberation. Hamas or Fatah or the Palestinians alone are not, and will never be a match to Israel destructive and terrorizing power. Therefore, for a quick war of liberation to be effective and yield the desired results, with the least number of casualties on both sides of the conflict, Arabs must unite and form a United States of Arabs, parallel to the United States of America. The combined economic and human resources of such union will easily raise a huge army that would overwhelm Israel and make it metaphorically “wet its pants,” bring it to its senses and force it sew for peace. This is the only way to solve this problem in the fastest and least costly way in terms of lives on both sides.

However, since there are no signs of this happening, in my and your lifetime, you practically don’t need to worry about it, and I practically need not have illusions about it!

2. Having said this, I would like to thank you for stocking me and making me feel important when you indulge in your favorite hairsplitting of my posts to the point that you even load my words with more than they are supposed to mean. This makes me feel good; for if it means anything it means that my comments are thought-provoking. None on Truthdig does that so frequently as you do. Therefore, I have to thank you for giving me the satisfaction of knowing that there is someone who religiously reads, analyze and tries to hair split my words. I know you’re not in the business of giving religion any value, but when it comes to reacting to my posts, you do indeed do that religiously. May I call you humorously “THE REACTIONARY”!

To prove the point I just explained above, I would like to cite your latest post in reaction to my response to Sodium. In that post you simply dismissed Sodium long post addressed to you directly by saying: “I’ve read many of your posts.  I don’t bother to respond to them because it would be pointless: they are simply puerile and inane. You understand nothing.”

So based on the above-cited statement, you only employ your intellectual muscles and valuable time to respond to “pointed” and thought-provoking posts like mine!

So keep up the good work; for it only adds to my pleasure! And may I add that it takes a Semite to value, appreciate and take seriously what other Semite says!

Fadel:

Face it: you would LOVE IT if somehow the President of the United States took us to war against Israel!

Of course it’s safe for you to advocate such a war, since we both know it ain’t gonna happen (but you’d still LOVE IT!).  Therefore you can claim sarcasm (though I think irony would be more appropriate).

It also doesn’t change the truth that YOUR “solution” to the Middle East problems is a war to destroy Israel, irony, sarcasm or whatever aside.

After all, as the old saying goes “Many a truth is said in jest!”

Sodium: I’ve read many of your posts.  I don’t bother to respond to them because it would be pointless: they are simply puerile and inane.  You understand nothing.

=============================================
Warm Greetings and heart-felt gratitude, Sodium, for saving me the time and agony of responding to ITW!

Actually, I read your comment before I even saw what he wrote. Besides all the commonsense points you raised, I just want to add that ITW does not understand the subtlety of the rhetorical questions and the meanings of exclamation marks, nor does he seem to understand the subtle sarcasm of my comment!

Hypothetically, if ITW knew that I am actually the Commander-in-Chief of the US military establishment, he would have dismissed my statement as a bluff, since he knows very well that no American, from the President down, would ever dare to declare a war on Israel, except for a sarcastic wishful thinker like Fadel Abdallah!

Come on,ITW,you are much smarter than allowing yourself to write the garbage you emotionall, passionately and bombasticaaly poured against Dr.Fadel Abdallah in your above Re.

Before I proceed any further,I do not wish to be perceived as a defender of Dr. Abdallah who is very very very capable of defending every word he writes,if he wishes not to ignore your post, altogether. My intention, here,is to defend common sense and try to keep anything else where it must be kept.

Please allow me to tell you that you have seemed to me that you have forgotten that you were the one who wrote the following post and I quote:

Well,ITW,I,for one, have believed what you wrote above and I could detect that you meant every word of it and said to myself that Shingo was/is write about this guy. And I personally think very very highly of Shingo’s judgment and his fascinating ability as a DEBATER MARVEL. That is why your attack against Dr.Fadel Abdallah did not make sense to me,as I tried to connect all the dots. It just did not sound you who wrote the attack…

To make myself clear and clean on this contention of mine,I wish to tell you that I could have written exactly the same comments as Dr. Abdallah wrote,JUST TO SHOW THE DOUBLE STANDARD IN THE U.S. GOVERNMENT’S POLICY RELTED TO ISRAEL.You know this as well as I do. And I know very well I am against all wars. So,to turn around and claim I am calling for war against Israel is just as phony as Baby Bush’s claim that Saddam Hussein Had Weapons of Mass Destruction.

Furthermore, the operative words in Dr.Abdallah’s comments were “under the pretext of liberating it”. Any one whose intention to declare war would be a fool to use the word “pretext” if he or she cares to persuade others to call for war too. Using such a phrase, there is no chance of any degree of persuasion.

Your spontaneous and genuine stand with Dr. Fadel Abdallah,a few months ago,as you felt bigotry was on the offing against him because he was/is a Muslim, was truly magnanimous and, indeed noble. He had matched such magnanimity and nobility with his own, as he publiclly apologized for calling you names. You guys have much more in common than you wish to admit or realize. Why not build on the thing you agree on and try to accomodate each other as much as you can on the issues you disagree, and leave the destructive talks to its own kind.Neither you,nor him belong to the destructive kind:

Your purpose is to serve your own people:The Jewish People. There is nothing wrong with that as long as it is done with no prejudice, against any other human being existing on this Earth.

His purpose is to serve his own people:The Palestinian People. There is nothing wrong with that as long it is done with no prejudice against any other human being existing on this Earth.

If you have to hate each other, please hate each other in peace, not through bombastic propaganda.

Thank you….

**************************************

There you have it, folks! The self-proclaimed Arab Intellectual teaching at a major (or minor) American university comes up with his fabulous peace-keeping plan for the Middle-East:

Make war on Israel!

How original! How unique! How different than all the other Arab solutions over the last 61 years!

All his protestations of wanting peace, not hating Jews, yada, yada, yada, and what’s he want? Another war against Israel.

Gee, Fadel.  Do you claim to speak for all Arabs, or just yourself?  Are you going to volunteer to fight in this war?  Are you going to send your sons and daughters to fight this war?  Or are you going to do a Bush-Cheney chicken hawk act and send somebody ELSE’s children to fight and die in this war you advocate?

Actually, you ARE different than many other Arabs.  The Saudis actually sponsored a plan for making peace and normalizing relations with Israel a few years ago.  Whether a good plan or not, at least it was a plan for peaceful co-existence.

Meanwhile Fadel is back at the old plan of the Mufti, of Nasser, of Sadat, of Arafat, of Assad, of Saddam from 1948, 1956, 1967, 1973 and the Intifadas: Make war on Israel.

Yeah, Fadel.  brilliant. Glad I was never one of your students—I’d have to go to school twice as long as everyone else UNLEARNING what you teach.

JERUSALEM — Two women serve in Israel’s new Cabinet, but some Israelis would rather not see them.

Newspapers aimed at ultra-Orthodox Jewish readers tampered with the inaugural photograph of the Cabinet, erasing ministers Limor Livnat and Sofa Landver.

Ultra-Orthodox newspapers consider it immodest to print images of women.

The daily Yated Neeman digitally changed the photo, moving two male ministers into the places formerly occupied by the women.

The weekly Shaa Tova simply blacked the women out, in a photo reprinted Friday by the mainstream daily Maariv.

No response was available from the two papers.

During the election, campaign posters featuring female candidate Tzipi Livni were defaced near ultra-Orthodox neighborhoods.

Anti-Nazionist,

This is to inform that I used to depend on BBC,Al-Jazeera and The Nation magazine, for what I thought, as solid sources for “impartial?” news. The true color of BBC was exposed during the slaughter of the Gazan Palestinians by the destructive ideology of Zionism and its hard core adherents. Since then I no longer seek BBC for news. That is the only punishment I have under my disposal. But if there are others who felt similarly as I did and joined my move to boycott BBC,such an aggregate of personal move might have an impact on BBC and might force it to be less bias against the Palestinian people.

TO EQUATE THE VICTIMIZERS WITH THEIR VICTIMS OF MORE THAN 60 YEARS IS MORALLY BANKRUPT…...

Insofar as these papers feeling free to do this sort of this is indicative of the “swing to the right” in Israeli political wont that Noam Chomsky seems to sense, it’s just yet another reason for the U.S. to not only halt all arms sales to Israel and suspend ALL “foreign aid” to the country, but also to withdraw support in the U.N. and other global fora to Israel’s duplicitous “reservations” regarding all the accords they’ve ostensibly agreed to.

All too much, the populace of Israel seems to be still suffering from some version of “Stockholm Syndrome,” learnt from their experience under German Nazis.

They need to be “awakened” from this perverted form of “Wagnerian Zionism.”

Sigh.
