FBI Runs for the BorderPosted on Mar 25, 2009
In a move that further militarizes a bloody drug war that left 6,300 people dead in 2008 alone, the White House is sending FBI agents and equipment to the U.S.-Mexico border to defend against the “spillover” of drug violence. The relocation of federal agents to the U.S. Southwest follows the dispatching of thousands of Mexican soldiers to combat drug cartels earlier this year.

How Free Are We?
Right now (3/25/2009) I am watching Anderson Cooper on CNN doing this report about the kids being assassins for the cartels and can not help but notice the date on the tape is from 7-28-2006; which of course means that this is old news which is true. Another point that I would like to state is that they talk about Garcia being killed with his wife pregnant wife in the car. Not only do they fail to state that this happened in 2005 they also fail to state that Garcia was a high ranking member in the Mexican Mafia and was involved in the drug trade (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xu3Z8QqUgtE&feature=related) (start watching at 6:45).The truth is that this has been going on for a long time! So what is the advantage of bringing it up now and making a big deal about something that has been going on for years? As did many other people in school I read the book 1984 by George Orwell and realized, like everyone else did, that I would not want to live in that kind of world; but when I look at where we are today it brings up some unsettling similarities. I see people setting up cameras in their homes in the form of computers and phones that allow you to see the person you’re talking to. Do you really think that the government could not access those cameras and see into your homes? There is GPS being put into cars and cell phones which makes it easy to follow your every movement should the government choose to. Even while driving around in my car I see random video cameras set up around the city and also there are now cameras set up on the side of the highway that takes your picture and sends you a ticket if you are speeding. On the news they are saying Mexico may become a failed state but do not go into detail of what that means. It is a term is very broad and does not include details. The term “terrorists” is also being used to strike fear into people. Now I may wrong but I do see something that can very possibly occur in the near future and that is using the Mexican drug war to strike fear in American citizens in order to slowly strip away our rights to privacy and our freedom. I hear of making national ID cards and RFID chips will hold all of your personal information including finger prints and DNA data. I see us heading in the direction of 1984 and I think we need to stand up and look at what is really going on here. We need to stand united and not allow this to happen. It is your everyday, average people who are the foundation of this nation and without a stable foundation everything will fall. This is just my opinion on our current situation and I am practicing my right to freedom of speech. If you agree I encourage you to repost this in as many blogs and places possible and talk to family and friends about it. I am not saying I am right or wrong but just take my opinion into consideration with an open mind.

BigBlackOlive, Since JFK said he would break the CIA into a thousand pieces (a good idea at the time) it’s not surprising that people know and at some point the country will admit that the CIA did it. They kill their own agents, even those who have served them well yet become inconvenient for one reason or the other. So why would they shrink from killing an uncooperative President? The Secret Service has long maintained it is possible to kill any President if one is determined enough to die in the process—but in Kennedy’s case, no one but the alleged assassing and a minor criminal had to die. Not the people who planned it. I’ll try to find the book you mentioned.

David, not everyone, whether liberal or conservative, can “just say no.” There’s such a thing as an addictive personality to whom drugs, tobacco, alcohol or for that matter chocolate pose nearly insurmountable challenges, or so my doctor tells me. (I don’t have one so lucky for me but what about people with an addictive personality and not a lot of support for the problems they are facing who turn to any of this stuff, much of which is legal?)
Unfortunately the backlash from drug abuse has made it nearly impossible, even in California, to grow or use medical-grade marijuana for pain and nausea relief. It is particularly useful for cancer patients (our son’s oncologist urged its use and it helped a lot), and for AIDS patients. Two friends who succumbed to that disease in its early days said it eased their suffering and calmed their anxiety so they could sometimes enjoy the little time remaining to them.
We should legalize marijuana intelligently and, as stated in my earlier post, legalize the hard dangerous stuff, sell it through government clinics but also have counseling and free programs for anyone who wants to kick it.
“Just Say No” was coined by a wealthy problem-free white woman addicted to fashion and appearances. It was her mindless but catchy response to a complicated problem—and a very handy position to take while under her husband’s watch illegal drug revenues were funding the Contras and other rightwing death squads in our southern hemisphere.
Marcus, sure the border is a security threat, but one that we could handle much better if illegal drug traffic didn’t suck up so much manpower.

And Amunaor is correct. A current book on the Jack Kennedy assassination is very much on the CIA. This is: ULTIMATE SACRIFICE, by Lamar Waldron with Thom Hartman.

Wow… I actually agree with everyone’s comments so far. That’s a rare event! Great posts. There is only ONE way to get rid of the cartels, violence, outrageous corruption, etc. That is to LEGALIZE and take away the black market. Reality! Drugs will NEVER go away. We must learn to live with drugs and stop pretending we can get rid of them. Prohibition never, ever, EVER works.

Don’t blame gangsters for the violence if you pay them for their drugs. And don’t blame the government if you think they are behind it somehow. If that is true then you happily pay them too. Why legalize drugs? If you want to stem some of the drug related violence, there is something YOU can do. We all know how much liberals love a good old fashioned boycott. JUST SAY NO! Some liberals will boycott anything except their drugs! You do not care about the violence. You just want cheap legal feel-good drugs for you and your pot head friends.

They need to pull our troops from Iraq and place them along the border. I bet more than just illegals are filtering into the US. The border is a national security threat.

The war on drugs is bogus. Its only purpose is to keep ‘black-market’ prices high, which proceeds are then funneled into U.S. - CIA black-ops projects.
The U.S. has more people incarcerated than anyone else on the face of the planet, including China. A very lucrative business has grown up around this ‘anti-drug’ ideology, including the sale of enforcement weaponry along with its massive search and seizure squads.
Reefer Madness was a politically motivated campaign produced by the logging industry to destroy hemp farming within the U.S.. By psychologically permeating the public mind with dark images of Marijuana smoking; the logging cabal’s, unsubstantiated, claims succeeded in destroying the hemp farms, while, unto this day, the stigma of the ‘lunatic’ pot smoker continues to pervade and terroize the public mind.
The pharmaceutical industry, official government sanctioned dope pushers, would rather peddle, sell and breed their own form of addicts, with a more dangerous brand of ‘serotonin uptake inhibitors’......already linked to suicides and school shootings. Then, of course, there is the military’s interest in creating the insensitive ‘Pharmaceutical Soldier’; a killing machine and wet-dream for Corporatarchs, whose economy of aggressive dominance is based solely on the industry of war and terror.
Don’t forget - Enron was one of the biggest drug-money laundry mats before its collapse, whose nefarious activities, never saw the light of day. It is interesting to note that, coincidently, the collapse of building-7 on 911 took with it a mountain of Enron’s tax records along with other important documents. Then there was the BCCI (Bank for Credit and Commerce International), related to the infamous Savings & Loan fiasco from the 1980’s, another dark artery, whose proceeds fed black projects.
Iran-Contra…..drugs for guns…...it was the proceeds of such drug money that allowed ex-CIA chief, papa Bush, as Vice President under Reagan, to exploit loose canon ideologues such as Oliver North, in funding the support of right-wing death squads within both South and Central America; decimating duly elected Democracies along with the extermination of any organized labor movements; simply to gorge the insatiable appetites of Wall Street’s Corporate palates, and facilitate control over the regions natural resources.

This is not exactly a new problem. At the very least we should legalize marijuana, and let people get the more dangerous stuff through government-run clinics where their health is checked and freeprograms to get off whatever it is they’re on, This would cost the U.S. a helluvalot less, cut the cartels cashflow down to nonexistent and stop the violence.
My husband and I have been in southern New Mexico the last three months and there are a lot of expensive checkpoints even far from the border complete with guards, guns, drug-detecting dogs, etc. The Rio Grande River shores are closed from El Paso to the Gulf of Mexico, and in this direction there are a lot of Border Patrol agents out in their little white trucks. But apparently all to no avail, same for Arizona, as a lot of drugs get through anyway. Doesn’t anyone remember the boost organized crime got from Prohibition?

Another really lousy use of scarce federal resources. If “illegal” drugs were decriminalized, none of the Mexican or American federales would have to bother with utterly ineffective “show of force” efforts like this newly announced one.

In the last 40 years, politicians on Capitol Hill have treated the global illicit drug trafficking plague in a half-closed eye fashion. Since the rise of the South American cartels in the early 1980’s, the wake-up call for a concerted international anti-drug policy was never addressed as a national security problem which it has always been. Now, when Mexico’s survival has become apparent in lieu of unprecedented drug wars along the U.S. border, reaction on the Hill is coming to life, probably for the moment, as always.

Prohibition is never gonna work. Decriminalize drugs, use some of the money we’re spending now on policing, prosecuting and incarcerating for drug education. Take the black market profits out of drugs.
