Sarah Palin is turning down about half of her state’s stimulus money, complaining that Washington is trying to engineer a bigger Alaskan government with funding for health care, energy programs and schools. Schools? How dare you, Washington?

Fairbanks News-Miner:

Among the money left on the table is about $170 million for education, especially under Title One and for special education; millions for health and human services, including medical records and immunization programs; about $17 million for Department of labor programs, including vocational rehabilitation; about $7 million related to public safety; and several million dollars for energy projects, including some weatherization funding.

Palin pointed out that the energy money appears to require the state to pass a building code, while other funds could result in more state employees and programs that can’t be maintained in the future.

Palin needs to become h=the pastor of her own Pentecostal church.  Then she can just heal everything, channel some g-d or other, spout off, etc.  Better than being a !Pres. any day!

I never thought I would agree with something Sarah Palin was doing, but I do. More money put into an intentionally poorly made school system does not make it better, it just makes it look more pleasing. Similarly, more money put into governmental systems doesn’t necessarily make them more efficient or functional, and is likely to make them bloated and bureaucratic.

What would be great is if the money could be given to the 100 000 most needy people directly, rather than be used to prop up outdated systems.

Sarah would turn down volcano Research & Monitoring with Redoubt over her shoulder rumbling away!
Worse than even the logic of benefits for weatherization is her rejecting funds for special needs kids. Getting enough by siphoning off funds from AK’ers to assure you new baby will be well cared for?Screw the rest of them? Or is she worried that such funding would reveal that her son doesn’t have Downs, but was deprived of Oxygen related to fetal distress for those 8 hours? She wouldn’t be getting State assistance, but a state warrant handed to her for recklessly endangering the life of a child? I still want to see the DNA proving that lil guy actually has Down’s.Repugs want to see Obama’s birth certificate- I want to see Sarahs sons birth records.
Lets face it regardless, she should indifference to this childs safety and welfare.Plus she obviously had an amnio during her pregnacy if she ‘knew’ he had Downs. If she knew he had Down’s, he was already compromised. So the prudent thing to do was seek immediate medical attention when her water broke. However if the test came out negative, her (in)actions seem to make slightly more sense. She thought he’d be the same as all her other childrens births. Still that is reckless, since at her age any problem could arise. To get on plane with no medical staff, or even a heads up is at the least, Insane!
This Birth Story proves this Woman is not only an unfit mother, her own self serving attitude when it comes to her own child is indictive of the disregard she would have for the rest of US Non family members.
She Recklessly and needlessly endanged a child- Indifference to life. And Alaskans are willing to keep her at the Helm of all their wellbeings?

If you people could stop the knee jerk reaction you have towards her and be rational for a minute.

It is not uncommon at all for states to turn down federal money.
The reason is not that they do not care for their state but that they do.

When a state gets a federal windfall and spends it on building new schools/or other things that have an annual up keep the new project requires money to keep it maintained long after the ‘windfall’ from the feds run out.
The new ‘project’ funded by the feds will end up costing the state money that the STATE will have to pay from ITS OWN budget long after the FED MONEY RUN OUT and the states gain for a short time will hurt the budget in the future.

IT IS COMMON FOR GOV’s TO TURN DOWN FED MONEY

If you look closer at the Govs that are turning down funds most are only turning down PART of the MONEY (notice how one Gov wants to use it to pay off debt which would help the state in the long run) (turned down money for long term expense to state accepted money)

BECAUSE THEY CARE NOT BECAUSE THEY DON’T CARE ABOUT THEIR STATES is why they do not want part of the money that might require a long term commencement of the states funds.

The states are taking a long term view and not a short term.
Isn’t this what got us here in the first place.  Not seeing the bigger picture and being short sighted and spending money on things they could not maintain.

To conservatives schools are evil.
They provide an education which leads to intelligence which makes it harder to manipulate people.
It is the Lack of Intelligence that is the foundation of conservatism.

Unfortunate for the people of Alaska that she represents herself not them.

She is as reprehensible as governor as she was as a VP candidate. She lies in whatever role she performs and withholds funds for the betterment of her constituents. She is beginning to rival Cheney so much in devil-like qualities that Dante should have a level in Hell especially for her, cheney and their ilk.

Andrew, Palin is accepting money for transportation and aviation. Her most important thing is aviation: heliocpoters, spotter planes and aerial gunners for her aerial wolf slaughters. She pulled out an obsolete law and had twisted and exploited it to justify her senseless wolf killing. During her campaign, some networks exposed her for the blood thirsty, cruel, sadistic uncaring, lying person that she is. Now she had even gotten her Board of Game(wildlife) to use deadly snares and poison gas to kill wolf pups in their dens in her insane bloodlust. It is illegal to kill wolf pups in Alaska. But damn the rules when Palin is around. What’s next dogs? As all dogs are descendants of wolves and she has an insane goal of killing all wolves. Current info on Sarah’s latest wolf kill from Defenders of Wildlife and http://www.eyeonpalin.org.

Palin wants to take all of America back to the dark days of religious dogma, superstition, ignorance and torture. Do you really think we need to turn America into a theocracy? Look at history. Countries that allowed the church to make the rules were the most evil, inhumane and barbaric countries on the earth and many still are alive today. That is what Sarah wants, a church run country. Education, who needs it. Her home town of Wasilla(y) is the meth capital of America, if she were elected president she could take control all of the distribution of the meth produced in her home state, thus employing more Alaskans and keeping the unemployment roles down. ALaska also has the highest rape cases in the country. Nice track record her state has. Something to really be proud of. A woman whose state is known for drugs and rape. Something all Americas would be proud to have her represent us to the rest of the world right? Only if you are that stupid.

An as for turning down the money for the mentally/physically impaired, remember when she said on the campaign trail that as V.P. she would increase spending on special education? All the while as she cut funding to Special Olympics in her own state.

She has no empathy for other living things that her God-or so she claims, when a religious background makes her seem acceptable to the sheeple. Incapable of running her own family, let alone a state and much less the country. She is an insult to educated women everywhere. We do not need more of Sarah Palin and her idiotic and war mongering mindset running this country. We just had 8 years of that already. We do not need a rerun of incompetent repug rule.

Good for her….much less hypocritical than my governor who wants stimulus funds so he can build toll roads managed by private companies. And the social “conservatives” love him!
Meanwhile, my medical school languishes after being KO’d by Hurricane Ike for lack of funding.
Houston may have voted blue, but the state is still run by politicians who hate government. As my 10 year old pointed out….“Government isn’t the problem, we need government”
Face it, Alaska doesn’t need stimulus funds-they get them daily from the Chinese we sell their oil to…

If I have but one prayer to offer to whatever God or Gods there may be, it is this:

Please, Please, PLEASE let this woman be the opponent President Obama faces in his reelection bid in ‘12.

Then again, if she should simply give up on politics before ‘12, maybe she could work something out with Hugh Hefner in the near future. You know, before gravity inexorably drops her bony ass-ets (and everything else, ftm) down around her shapely ankles.

“... always come with strings attached.”

As well they should. Palin and every governor is free to turn down the money. That isn’t the point. The point is that “[Palin argues] funds could result in more state employees and programs that can’t be maintained in the future”.

She can’t govern.

If she doesn’t think the program are worth it, then what’s the beef? It doesn’t matter whether or not they can be maintained. What she’s saying is that the programs are worthwhile. She just can’t sustain them.

Sarah Palin is an idiot and a totally immoral crook, known for her dirty tricks against opponents and abuse of her legal powers, married to an avowed traitor, and a phony “christian” worshiping in a witchcraft-oriented fascist church. She can’t even run her own house morally—her daughter got pregnant by the thug son of a drug dealer, showing how well Sarah taught “Abstinence Only” to her own teen, in her own house.

Now Palin is going to hurt the neediest of her state for political advantage, just like all the mainstream irresponsible Re-thug-lickens who spent all those years getting us INTO this mess and who have two answers: Lower taxes on the rich and BLAME THE DEMOCRATS!!!!

I’m afraid that by the end of Obama’s term (first) things will be so bad that “Change” will be changed right out of office for the likes of a radical whacko conservative. Palin could fit that bill. “Less government, less restraints for big business. Let them have it all. Maybe their shit will ‘trickle down’!”

“Change from change.”  That’s what they are banking on…

Uh-oh here comes the PDS again (Palin derangement syndrome) Good for her, this stimulus package and all the pork is going to be Barry’s downfall.  He knew about the AIG bonuses or was negligent.  Geithner knew about it.  It’s going to be a long 4 years for liberals.  Ok, in lieu of intelligent arguments you can start calling me names now. I suggest mouthbreather or perhaps idiot.  Go!

Re: Blue Eagle

There HAS been a deliberate dumbing down of America, but it is BECAUSE of people like Palin and her ilk, that’s why she doesn’t want the money.  She doesn’t want competition.

Think about HOW stupid she wants her state citizens if she wants them dumber than her!  It’s scandalous!

BlueEagle…are you seriously quoting something about deliberately dumbing down America and at the same time appluading Palin’s decision to give away money that can help schools function more efficiently and effectively?

I would like to know what money Palin IS accepting and what she is accepting it for…and how those things could be any more important than supporting the one thing that will be guaranteed to sustain Alaska’s economy, the children who will inherit it.

Shame on Palin for doing this. She is only posturing for the National stage.

I guess America has been dumbed down because you are clearly too dumb to see this.

She shouldn’t accept one penny. FRNs from US Corp. always come with strings attached.

The last thing any state needs is more centralized control of health care, energy or education.

The education system (private and public) these day just controls the indoctrination camps (aka schools) through the Dept of Education.

Charlotte Thomson Iserbyt’s “Deliberate Dumbing Down of America” is a must read to understand this.
