U.S. Air Force / Tech. Sgt. Cohen A. Young

“Military women are more likely to be raped by a fellow soldier than killed by enemy fire in Iraq,” said Rep. Jane Harman in response to the news that the number of sexual assault reports in the military last year increased by about 9 percent to 2,923. The Pentagon believes the actual number of assaults is five to 10 times higher, because most go unreported.

AP via Google:

The yearly increase in reports is more likely due to larger numbers of victims being willing to come forward than to an overall increase in sexual violence, Whitley said.

That increase includes a jump in cases from combat zones in Iraq and Afghanistan, to 165 from 131 the year before.

I’m not belittling the rape problem - only pointing out that comparing it to the death rate of female soldiers in Iraq is rather meaningless since that number has shrunk so dramatically.  It’s an apples/oranges comparison and doesn’t serve any purpose since Iraqi combat deaths is no longer a benchmark for anything like it was a year or so ago.

You wanna compare it to civilian rapes, that makes more sense.

And the Right is obsessing over Gays. apparently they have no concerns about females being raped, It’s just the boys they worry about ah?
But that’s the Status Quo for the ‘Right’. Why is it the right never volleys up the logical solution to ending the abortion of unwanted pregancies- CASTRATION? Hell these folks are even against the use of Condoms. Seems the Boys; are free to play ‘Johnny appleseed’ all they want, and women are stuck with the reprocussions- whether it was consenting or not. Anyone else getting the Idea the ‘Right’ hates Females? All members of the ‘He- man Woman Haters Club’ or their subserviant wives?
Of course when you allow the first essential female, Eve to be Wicked,..What do you expect. Eve’s decision to accept the apple of knowledge was an agreement to be Gods Stewards- otherwise we would be Animals. We would not have the intellect we so uniquely have. Not only deductive reasoning but also Foresight and the ability to plan and control our envirnoment. If anything Eve allowed Humanity to become the ‘divine’ creation. We do God’s Work here in ‘Eden’.
funny yet is the Fact that God is almighty, creator of heaven and Earth, But CHOOSE to come Further to humanity Through a Female. Apparently God prefers to use a female to reveal himslef then just drop down one of his fleshy containers from On High. Ya don’t think such an almighty could do so if he wished? He was able to do that with everything else.Besides if God had a problem with Females- thought so little of Us, couldn’t he just switch man& woman’s reproductive organs at will? make Us like Sea Horses. Oh You of little Faith, should consider this.
It is one thing to hold this hateful and jealous ideology, it’s another to legislate it. at least with a more gay men in the military the Rape cases would go down- not just because they aren’t interested but there would be more males around who might have the Balls to speak up or stop such a crime.
I’ve had a personal experience where a Gay man stepped in when another males was attempting to lure me out of a bar. I wouldn’t ahve gone anyway- but since the Gay man was the bartender, we was able to kick him out of the bar competely. Telling me when I leave if I see him- come back and he’ll call the cops for loitering. Now that’s ‘having Your Back’, something the Right should consider when discussing Unit Cohesiveness.

Re: Marshall

What in the world are you claiming…?  These statistics translate as real PEOPLE, (soldiers, no less)...putting themselves in harms way.

Quote: “Congresswoman Jane Harman, a congressional critic of the military’s handling of sexual violence, said the statistics show the problem is still rampant.

“While the report shows modest improvement, we’re far from Mission Accomplished,” the California Democrat said in a statement. “Military women are more likely to be raped by a fellow soldier than killed by enemy fire in Iraq.”

Contrast the information here:

* a 9 percent increase over the totals reported the year before, but only a fraction of the crimes presumably being committed.

* “The latest figures include 2,280 cases in which a victim provided full accounts and physical evidence when possible,”

* Prosecution is slow and large numbers of cases are thrown out or dropped.

* The most recent figures, which include cases left open from previous years, show that only 317 cases were referred for courts-martial, or military trials. Another 247 were referred for nonjudicial punishment.”

Your…. “a testament”, BS is off the wall.  It’s a testament all right, but not of the spin you are attempting to “sell” to us “dumb Americans”.  Think AGAIN.

I’m willing to wager that AT LEAST half of us “dumb Americans” are women and that AT LEAST half of men would find these “statistics” repugnant…. that would be about 75% of Americans (I’d say more, but we’ll be conservative) would call these “statistics” INEXCUSABLE.  Think AGAIN.

“Military women are more likely to be raped by a fellow soldier than killed by enemy fire in Iraq”

While true, this is as much a testament to how drastically the combat casualty rate in Iraq has fallen as it is to the increase in reported military rapes.
