I completely agree. The “eye for an eye” philsophy might be intended to satisfy some screwball notion of justice (I don’t care if comes from the Bible - a book FULL of screwball notions) but all it really does is to excite some primal urge to get even. Those who choose to react using the same/similar tactics/actions as the transgressor, IMO, have elected to join in the same “brutish” behavior that started the ruckus.

I fear the best we can do is to ferret out evil today wherever we find it and somehow disinfect/sterilize those associated with it. I think that, while some gene responsible for the   expression of such actions may someday be found and expunged from the genome, until then the best we can do is remove the individual from circulation.

While we’re at it, how about we remove his/her ability to reproduce. If they’ve already “multiplied,” unfortunately those offspring also will need to be “neutered” then monitored for life. We simply MUST put a stop to this horrific strain of defects any way we can.

And no, the death penalty, is not the way to go. Killing them is not any great punishment… it’s just a primal act of revenge which accomplishes nothing other than demeaning the society as a whole. Banishment of offenders has been demonstrated as highly effective as a punishment while it solves the problem of removing the individuals from society at no cost!

I propose an island, 1,000 miles from nowhere,  somewhere in the tropics is fine, where they all can be dropped off to fend for themselves. All we’ll be responsible for is to ensure some potable water is available, and some basic foodstuffs and/or seeds to grow food. There’ll be no multi-million dollar “penal” business involved to suck precious resources from society. No guards or healthcare or even shelter. The island’s activities could easily be monitored daily from a satellite. If they all kill one another, who cares. Out of sight. Out of mind.
