Morgan Tsvangirai and his wife, Susan, in 2004. Their 31-year marriage produced six children.

Zimbabwe’s Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, after enduring a great deal of hardship on the long road to his current position of sharing power with President Robert Mugabe, was injured and his wife of 31 years was killed in a car accident that occurred Friday when they were on their way to their home outside Harare.

Los Angeles Times:

Morgan Tsvangirai, 56, was sworn in last month as prime minister of a unity government in the troubled southern African nation after years in opposition to the regime of President Robert Mugabe. Tsvangirai and his wife, Susan, were en route to their rural home in the eastern district of Buhera, where a rally was planned for Saturday, when the crash occurred.

Information about how the accident happened and the nature of the prime minister’s injuries was sketchy, but a party aide said Tsvangirai’s life was not at risk.

Party officials at the hospital in Harare, the capital, confirmed the death of Susan Tsvangirai unofficially but said the family and doctors would release a formal statement later.

The CIA?  I doubt they could have pulled it off; too complex a plan.

The regime was on their way out, but the VP’s daughter was caught trying to sell a large amount of gold to Spanish traders.  I’m sure this wasn’t the first attempt by the Zimbabwean elite.  Forced to stay, they escalate the land reform policy, further fallowing perfectly arable farms to dole out to themselves.

Realizing that, they commenced to silencing the opposition government and the Prime Minister.

I’m afraid internal insurrection will be necessary for the lives and sanity of the people of Zimbabwe. A great purging is well overdue and with the diminishing mystique of the former heroics of Mugabe’s “Freedom Fighter” days against Rhodesian oppression, improves the likelihood of this happening. There doesn’t appear to be any other way.

It might be true that the roads are bad but the first car was not hit and the truck went for the second car and a convoy does not have the president first so I think it was done on purpose.

But the public will not know because this government probably will not give out the information.

My friend Bob was an aerial photographer who worked for A.I.D in Honduras way back when. When he finished the job the revolution began. A.I.D.=C.I A. His words. These Black operations where begun way before Obama and like a super tanker take a long time to stop. Stupid is as stupid does!

First off: Anybody who believes this was an accident do a back handspring!

Second: Anybody who doesn’t think Mugabe was behind it do 3 back flips, the last with a half twist!

~~~
Well Inherit,
Lucky for me, I don’t apply to either of the above. Imagine me having to do some back flips or handsprings.
Why the very IDEA!!
I think you’re right. Mugabe. At least that’s exactly who immediately came to mind, despite his immediate appearance at the hospital.
The idea of the CIA in this absolutely IS preposterous. Fucking stupid…
30 plus years ago, the dictator of Panama, Gen. Torijos, was killed when his helicopter crashed in an accident.  A Chileano friend said “In Central and South America there’s no such thing as an accident.”  Torijos was moderate for a dictator and I think it was Noriega who sadly stepped in to fill the gap.
Why the HELL would the CIA want Tsvangirai killed?  Mugabe is a Marxist, long connected iwth Russia, then China and Cuba.  That makes NO f***in’ sense.  Just typical knee-jerk blaming the US and CIA for everything.
There is no motive, particularly NOW, with President Obama, to want to help Mugabe continue to destabilize Zimbabwe.  The idea is simply stupid.
