N.Y. Post Cartoon Goes Way, Way Over the LinePosted on Feb 18, 2009
The New York Post is no stranger to controversy, but the rag’s latest goes beyond its typically low standards: A cartoon shows two cops, one of whom points his smoking gun at a bullet-riddled, bloody chimp. His partner says: “They’ll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill.”

hippy pam- you’re a teacher? I’m astonished. I still remember the thread where the corrupt judges put thousands of kids in prison for minor or no offenses, and you argue that the “little punks” (as you referred to them) who were badly brought up deserved it. Indeed you stated that the government was on the side of the criminals and if they weren’t you could drill the little punks and not get into trouble.
I wonder if teaching tends to instill these kinds of attitudes in some teachers at some time, although you were opposed in your views by another teacher, Omniadeo. It seems in any event that your humanistic values are a little confused, to say the least.

To those whose chains I rattled…..I apologise that you mis-understood what I meant…..
I see that a lot on this site…People read the posts-then jump on them without giving the “writer” any doubts. It’s all in what is inferred by the “reader”...
I “spoke” to cyrena because I though she would “see” the irony of the “bigots” whose kids want to be rappers etc….I mentioned my Native American Heritage I use as a tool when I teach.I’m still asked by at least one kid in the class- if I ride a horse and kill deer….
I thought we were all on here to change the way things are….To make statements that will bring about change for the better..To stop cartoons that spout negative ideas about our elected president…
Instead-I am attacked…
TD3-My tribe is regognized but not my band-I get nothing from the gubmint….and oh yeah-I do pay taxes-do need a fishing licence-and do not have any exemptions from the military…3 other “fallacies” that some of my “students” are incorrect about….

I live and work in a multi-racial environment and STILL see racism all the time. Sometimes people of various races work for me, sometimes I work for them, depending on the task at hand—and who has what need. The CEO, COO and CFO all come from different ethnic and racial backgrounds.
It’s the way things SHOULD be!
Kids don’t care what color their friends are, or what religion. They don’t even have to have a common language.
They have to be taught to be bigots, to hate, to discriminate on skin color, ethnic background, religion, to make nasty stupid remarks to call people:

Did you folks hear what Alan Keyes said, that Obama is a “radical communist” who was not born in the United States, and not only does Keyes not recognize him as a legitimate president but that the army should not obey his orders as Commander in Chief and that he must be stopped before he destroys America.
Sure Keyes is a lunatic blowhard, but still: isn’t this treason? Doesn’t Keyes belong in jail?
This racist, chauvinist shit is very dangerous. These are lies that uninformed people hear and help to spread, but I think these rumors are originally being planted by totally cynical people who are using racism and chauvinism to maintain their own power. If Obama does get assassinated, they will cover it up by hanging it on some racist like James Earl Ray, which will conceal the real perpetrators and their motives.
Obama is doing amazingly great so far. Every time I turn on C-Span, there he is, doing a fantastic job, cutting the finest figure of a president I ever hope to see.
Meanwhile, the hitherto feckless Democratic Congress is virtually howling for Bush Administration blood. Obama doesn’t have to do anything but let it happen. But I fear that when the Cheney gang feel that their exposure is imminent they will launch another big terrorist attack.

Uh….thanks for the post hippy pam. It was directed to me, (about your Indian ancestry? ??) so I appreciate it. I just don’t think I get your point about all the interracial marriage/relationships in your community, or how the babies of these unions have curly golden hair. In fact, I’m pretty familiar with this stuff, being from a multi-racial/ethnic ancestry myself. So, it sounds like the people in your community (you included) look a whole hell of a lot like my own family, and I’ve been looking at them for 56 years. We never really accomplished the snake neck stuff very well though.
So, since this isn’t new information, and since we aren’t talking about Black Pride on this thread, (though it is Black History Month) what exactly is the point of your response, and apparently to something that I (specifically) posted? I honestly would like to understand your ‘connection’ here.
My OWN post was in reference to a cartoon that depicts the assassination of the current US President, (who happens to be an African American), and the social-psychological stereotype connection between chimps and humans of African genealogy has long been ‘established’.
I connected that to the same social-psychology that would prompt groups of people from Sea to Shining Sea to call for the assassination of Barack Obama as soon as he was elected President. I included the example of how no matter how badly the previous 5 presidents have fucked up, there have NEVER been mass calls for their ASSASSINATIONS, nor have any attempts been made on any of their lives, with the exception of Regan who was attacked by an apolitical mental case.
WHY DO YA THINK THAT MIGHT BE – HIPPY PAM????????????
They might not live in YOUR ‘community’ Hippy Pam, but there is…well, the rest of the world….believe it or not.
And WHY do you suppose that a New York newspaper publication would feel perfectly comfortable in depicting this very same ‘assassination’ actually happening? Have you ever seen such a cartoon of a white chimp president being ASSASSINATED?
Meantime, I’m really sorry about you being a blonde Indian. So is my sister, but she seems to take it in stride. Doesn’t even die the gray out.
Just some side advice since you mentioned it…don’t hold your breath on everybody being the same color anytime soon.
And the next time they ask you where the Indians got their needles and thread, make sure they know we got the booze from the white folks as well,(as a GIFT) and that the conditions imposed on the Native Americans lead them to use the needles for other purposes that have continued the genocide that began 400 years ago with the small pox laden blankets that were also a ‘gift’ from the white folks.
If you’re gonna tell your history girl, you better tell it all, and tell it right.

Louise,
This made me feel like I was in Church somewhere – or having some sort of spiritual experience in my cubicle, which is where such an experience is far more likely to occur anyway.
• “..And moving one step beyond, we see republican supporters are about the same. Incapable of independent thought. Consumed with pettiness, blind obedience and pointless hate. Stupid, lazy and eager to stay that way, they ask just one thing of their leaders. That they reflect an accurate picture of themselves…”
You PREACH it girl!!
I am so serious! This is just the truth that needs to be ACKNOWLEDGED!! These people are like a cancerous tumor weaved into the fabric of our collective social psychology, and they inflict their poison, overwhelmingly consumed with pettiness (I think it’s the pettiness that drives me the craziest) and are totally incapable of independent thought, (or just outright lazy) and hate that seems pointless to us, but is born from a jealously for all that they actually KNOW they ‘lack’.
It’s like Dr. Manis writes in his excellent article, “When are WE Going to Get Over It?” - Republicans, (who are mostly white people, despite the macabre joke of Steele as their new Clubhouse Top Scout) just never have gotten over being ‘demoted to equal status with people of color’.
He wrote the letter, (I think I’ve provided this link before, but for those who are interested, I’ll provide it again) as a result of the nauseating coast-to-coast response in calling for the assassination of Barack Obama just after the Nov. 4th elections. There were in fact groups of sick citizens from Maine to California, voicing these threats of assassination.
Dr. Andrew Manis
When Are WE Going to Get Over It?
“For much of the last forty years, ever since America “fixed” its race problem in the Civ il Rights and Voting Rights Acts, we white people have been impatient with African Americans who continued to blame race for their difficulties. Often we have heard whites ask, “When are African Americans finally going to get over it? Now I want to ask:
“When are we White Americans going to get over our ridiculous obsession with skin color?”
He continues…
“Since our recent presidential election, to our eternal shame we are once again hearing the same reprehensible talk I remember from my boyhood.
We white people have controlled political life in the disunited colonies and United States for some 400 years on this continent. Conservative whites have been in power 28 of the last 40 years. Even during the eight Clinton years, conservatives in Congress blocked most of his agenda and pulled him to the right. Yet never in that period did I read any headlines suggesting that anyone was calling for the assassinations of presidents Nixon, Ford, Reagan, or either of the Bushes. Criticize them, yes. Call for their impeachment, perhaps.
But there were no bounties on their heads. And even when someone did try to kill Ronald Reagan, the perpetrator was a non-political mental case who wanted merely to impress Jody Foster.
But elect a liberal who happens to be Black and we’re back in the sixties again. At this point in our history, we should be proud that we’ve proven what conservatives are always saying—that in America anything is possible, EVEN electing a black man as president. But instead we now hear that schoolchildren from Maine to California are talking about wanting to “assassinate Obama.”“

Fighting the urge to throw up, I can only ask, “How long?” How long before we white people realize we can’t make our nation, much less the whole world, look like us? How long until we white people can -once and for all- get over this hell-conceived preoccupation with skin color? How long until we white people get over the demonic conviction that white skin makes us superior? How long before we white people get over our bitter resentments about being demoted to the status of equality with non-whites?
How long before we get over our expectations that we should be at the head of the line merely because of our white skin? How long until we white people end our silence and call out our peers when they share the latest racist jokes in the privacy of our white-only conversations?
I believe in free speech, but how long until we white people start making racist loudmouths as socially uncomfortable as we do flag burners? How long until we white people will stop insisting that blacks exercise personal responsibility, build strong families, educate themselves enough to edit the Harvard Law Review, and work hard enough to become President of the United States, only to threaten to assassinate them when they do?
The rest is at the link.
http://www.ireport.com/docs/DOC-176650
I’m adding my additional 2 cents on this, since I’ve actually devoted a considerable amount of time to studying and trying to understand the phenomena of racism – the CAUSES and the EFFECTS on our social infrastructure, since the interconnectedness with the rest of the infrastructure is what is ultimately manifested in the overall EFFECTS on any given society. As I continue to do that (a life- long pursuit no doubt) I’ve found the comments on this and a handful of other sites to be extremely revealing of these causes and effects.
At the end of the day, it always comes down to CAPITAL and the POWER associated with it. In a nutshell, the racists are having an incredibly difficult time with the reality of a Black man, (it would probably be worse if it was a black woman) having more intelligence in his little finger than the rest of them combined, but even more than that, they HATE the POWER in his left thumb and forefinger, specifically when there’s an ink pen involved. Even the dumbest of the dumbest, (and those most proud of their ignorance) show their true colors when there’s money to be fought over.

ALL they had to do was make at least one cop clearly Black and there would be no problem. Then it would be two cops and a chimp who is nothing more than a chimpanzee. But it still wouldn’t have been funny.
But since they are both White and the dead chimp is Black, the racist element becomes obvious.
But the NY Post took over the “Daily News, Daily Blues” role 20 odd years ago when Murdoch bought it.
Of course, the connection is to the 14 year old chimp in Stamford, CT, who went crazy (for the first time in his life) and mauled his owner’s friend horribly, whom he had known for many years. He attacked a cop in his car and the terrified officer shot him several times. The poor animal then crept back to his den in the house where he died. Turns out he had been fed Xanax, a psychotropic drug to try to keep him calmer. I don’t see anything funny in this story, either.

As the cartoonist’s ‘chimp’ reference is to Obama, I wonder how he can get away with this.
After all, it is a felony to make terrorist threats, or to advocate either the assassination of a public official, or the violent overthrow of the govt.
Accordingly, the cartoonist needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
I’m waiting to see that happen. Unless the Injustice Department is afraid of taking on Murdoch & Co.

Report thisThere is no reason to think that people would automatically attach this cartoon to the chimp story. The print told us this cartoon was about the stimulus package, which by the way, republicans are afraid of. They know they won’t get any credit for passing it and they hope it dies the same death as the chimp.
In this scenario, the chimp would be the republican obstructer.

If not motivated by racial tendencies, then an extreme lack of good judgment by the Post. Either way, their pathetic response “cloaked” as an apology is simply ridiculous. The Post should forthwith respond with a “real” apology; that as well shows that they understand that this type of visual imaging, and what it “clearly” shows it is trying to say…..should not and will not be tolerated in our country. Their lack of understanding the vileness of what the cartoon “clearly” is saying, and allowing the cartoon be printed is simply despicable.

I am ashamed that the NY Post, a paper owned wholly by Media Corp., a company wholly owned by Rupert Murdoch, should allow such nonsense to be printed and released for public perusal. Most Australians that I have encountered and know on a personal level,
have not a racist bone in their body, but Rupert, far

Note to Democrats—why the Fairness Doctrine DOES matter! (I’d also like to turn on radio and hear something besides NPR, Limbasugh or canned muzac, also) Amy Goodman, 2005
http://www.commondreams.org/views05/0403-25.htm
“The attack on the existing media-ownership rules came from predictable corners: Both Viacom, which owns CBS, and Rupert Murdoch’s conservative FOX News Channel were already in violation, and would be forced to sell off stations to come into compliance with the 35-percent limit. The rule change would enable Murdoch to control the airwaves of entire cities. That would be fine with Bush and the Powells, since Murdoch is one of their biggest boosters.”
Murdoch declared in February 2003 that George W. Bush “will either go down in history as a very great president or he’ll crash and burn. I’m optimistic it will be the former by a ratio of 2 to 1.” Murdoch leaves nothing to chance: His FOX News Channel is doing all it can to help.
“The media organizations in charge of vetting our images of war have become fewer and bigger — and the news more uniform and gung ho. Six huge corporations now control the major U.S. media: Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation (FOX, HarperCollins, New York Post, Weekly Standard, TV Guide, DirecTV and 35 TV stations), General Electric (NBC, CNBC, MSNBC, Telemundo, Bravo, Universal Pictures and 28 TV stations), Time Warner (AOL, CNN, Warner Bros., Time and its 130-plus magazines), Disney (ABC, Disney Channel, ESPN, 10 TV and 72 radio stations), Viacom (CBS, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Pictures, Simon & Schuster and 183 U.S. radio stations), and Bertelsmann (Random House and its more than 120 imprints worldwide, and Gruner + Jahr and its more than 110 magazines in 10 countries).
As Phil Donahue, the former host of MSNBC’s highest-rated show who was fired by the network in February 2003 for bringing on anti-war voices, told “Democracy Now!,” “We have more [TV] outlets now, but most of them sell the Bowflex machine. The rest of them are Jesus and jewelry. There really isn’t diversity in the media anymore. Dissent? Forget about it.”
The lack of diversity in ownership helps explain the lack of diversity in the news. When George W. Bush first came to power, the media watchers Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR) looked at who appeared on the evening news on ABC, CBS and NBC. Ninety-two percent of all U.S. sources interviewed were white, 85 percent were male, and where party affiliation was identifiable, 75 percent were Republican
NOw, I am not one to blame just GOP , especially when the Dems have had control of both houses since 2006. I know most here might disagree with that. But, there was a time when you didnt have to search around for unbiased media.
They took most of the money for broadband to unserved areas out of the Stimulus Bill.
We need the Fairness Doctrine.

How do you think this country got into such a mess in the first place? By IGNORING the carefully crafted plan deliberately carried out by Republicans to destroy all things good, for the sole purpose of controlling us, our military, our money and the world! Kinda like Plankton, and just as stupid and blind dumb, and incapapable of understanding the consequence of their greed and lust! They are getting stepped on now, and they don’t know what to do. They don’t understand what their years of Republican non-leadership has created, so they sink even lower into the muck we have finally come to recognize as Republican!

“BTW, I dont like both Obama and Bush. They followed and are following exactly the same policies carrying water for Wall Street and big business.”
Carefull td3, that kind of sweeping statement of policy only points out how little you understand anybody’s policy, left, right or middle! And please don’t insult our intelligence by saying we shouldn’t react to the association of some living thing shot dead in the street by some really dumb guy, mentioning the stimulus in the same frame as anything other than what it is! Particularly when you and so many like you have been so busy condemning Obama and clearly labeling the stimulus bill as his!
You may not get it, but there lots of folks out here who know how crazy some of these repubs are!
elsos,
“Boy, you sure told them!! Did you get that all of your little chest now?”
Actually no. There isn’t enough room in one of these comments to list all the personality disorders that describe so-called conservative Republicans and the damage they do! Granted there may be a small handfull of honest conservatives in Republican leadership, but unfortunately they haven’t got the guts to call their fellows out! And there are a lot of real, honest conservatives who use to carry the repub card. We know that because they all voted for Obama. And they all want their party back! And I’ve been told I’m fun to be around. All I need do is repeat something a republicans done! Gets a laugh every time!
James Schiely,
I freely admit I’ve called GW a dim-wit, a kindergartner, a war-monger, a liar, a hypocrit, the worst president ever, a mama’s boy, an incompetent, asleep at the wheel, unable to articulate a cognitive thought, and funnier by accident than the best comic by design! Although I noted when he strode across that deck with his gonads in a vice, he WALKED more like the first chimp in space than an experienced fighter pilot, who would have known how to undo the clips! But, I have NEVER called him a Chimp. I can think of a whole bunch of life-forms that might better describe him, like an amoeba.
And I have never, ever, EVER suggested he should be splayed in the road, shot dead by a gun!! That’s the difference!
Maybe that’s hard for all you Obama haters to understand, but laughing over the suggestion that anyone, whether Pelosi or Obama should be shot down is inexcusable, tasteless, stupid and dangerous! Especially when, as has been pointed out here, the dunces will be the ones reading and laughing at that crap!
Why in the name of anything even resembling intelligence do you all defend it?
Oh, there’s a clue!
(Barely) resembling intelligence!

The N.Y. Post has certainly made a complete Jackass of itself with the publication of an amazingly insensitive(possibly racist), tasteless cartoon. The reaction to it is almost worse and definitely over the top. One must step back from the emotionalism and ask; just what is free speech and do we really believe in maintaining this right. From the rhetoric in the news and in the blogisphere it would appear free speech is once again in danger.

Danish newspaper cartoons anyone? Remember how we tsk tsk’d at the protesting Muslims when their prophet was depicted with a bomb in his turban? What about freedom of speech? we said. Now another tasteless cartoon has appeared and its being interpreted as racist - probably is but being racist isn’t a crime; only acting on it and denying someone something based on race is a crime. Let it go. Boycotting and causing a rucus only gives the cartoonist more power. If you want to disarm the rightwing, ignore them. Besides political cartoons are supposed to be incendiary. This has obviously fulfilled that goal.

If President Obama was not black AND if President Obama was not so involved with the Stimulus Bill…this cartoon might not have been seen as racist. Tasteless, yes! BUT…since “chimp”, “ape” and “monkey” have been used as racial slurs against blacks for almost 200 years I don’t see how anyone say the cartoon is not racist. Even if it was innocent and unintentional (which I doubt) on the part of the cartoonist, someone in the editing department should have vetoed printing it. I also will add that there are people reading that paper that just might take that cartoon as a suggestion to assasinate President Obama.

not written by Obama personally and I am sure Obama
does not know anyting about many items in the package.
What the cartoonist means is that the package is so
illogical and scattered brained that only a chimp wrote it.
And I remember that I saw many cartoons and read

The country is going through really tough times,
So, lighten up people and leave posturing and theatrics behind. This is not the right time for it.

Doc, Louise and hippy pam need to grow up. Both the Dem and the repubs got us into the mess we’re in. No one is innocent in this debacle, including the stupid people living beyond their means, and whining because the economy tanked, and they’re losing the house they couldn’t afford to begin with. Both the Dems and Repubs are criminals. But I guess it takes an open minded analysis of our political and economic history to see it. But I’ve learned to expect close mindedness and a complete lack of intellect from the mouth frothing loons wishing to blame only one side.
If you saw racism in the cartoon take a good long look at the racist in the mirror. I, like many in my generation, have never heard the monkey-black connection. I was surprised by the reaction to the cartoon and thought it was stupid and I’m not alone. I’ve visited a few other blogs commenting about this and it’s only the older generation whining about it. The younger generations saw the toon for what it was - a bunch of monkeys could have written a better stimulus package. Quit shoving racism down everyone else’s throat and get some therapy for your race issues.

The fact that so many truthdiggers are in disagreement about what the cartoon is saying makes it pretty ineffective; whatever it intended to mean it’s ridiculous. Free speech is free speech, but that also means people who don’t like it are free to complain. Suggest ignoring it, if you don’t want to increase the NYPost’s subscriptions. Perverse but true, ANY attention is good for circulation. (Also, weren’t some of us among those who criticized the Moslems for overreacting to a Danish cartoon?)

No problem here; go away; and don’t let the door…..
Rupert Murdock, the Post page 6 editor, and the cartoonist perpetuated a repugnant racist stereotype, and joked about a political killing in the guise of a witty “on location news flash.”

Murdoch is not an American. There’s no vestigial sense of patriotism holding him back. Then again, not that he gives a crap about Australia either, since after all, countries exist only to serve corporate interests.
Murdoch calls himself a “radical conservative.” What characteristic is there that better defines a “radical” on the Left or Right than the use of violence to achieve political ends? If someone had published a similar cartoon about Bush, they’d probably have been prosecuted as terrorists under the PATRIOT Act.
Maybe this administration should use one of the techniques Bush used: If Cat Stevens, an American who has never caused any harm can be barred from entering the United States, then surely Rupert Murdoch, a foreigner and easily one of the 10 most despicable and dangerous people on the planet can be barred as well.

The neo-tards and their cronies have got us into the mess our country is now,the stealing of monies that the republicans did during the Bush admin.,the tax breaks for the rich which was suppose to “stimulate"the economy, the only thing it stimulated was the gag reflex of most Americans who lost their jobs, homes.for the most Americans are good hardworking people who love God their country and their famiies.Americans should be glad they have a smart and kind person like Pres Obama to help out our nation in its time of need (seeing he inherited a trillion dollar unnessary deficit from Bush). The racism that minorities have long suffered is not gone Because we have a black president(check non-funny NY cartoon) and it is a direct cause of our present problems no matter what the reichwingers say,Poverty +racism =rises in crime and a hard road for everyone. The NY post cartoon is just a regurgitation of racist images that some white(and “some"latinos hold against their fellow minrities)against their fellow americans.I was not surprised that they would go on the offensive(using any and all distractions) to prevent Obama’s administration from investigating the thefts of Billions of dollars of taxpayers money during the Bush admin.(where is the indignant uproar from whites about that?)Yet they want to criticize and lampoon Obama?what a joke! Blacks have fought bravely in every war just to be disrespected, stereotyped and profiled, they invented many inventions that we could not imagine living without.Yet some morons continue to try to make themselves feel better by putting minorities down (in a racist way)About the chimp cartoon the reality is how can people who thought it was okay to enslave their fellow man be allowed to have animals anyway?I always wondered if whites obsession with animals(especially wild ones) was a replacement for when they had slaves? How could a race of people who abused, raped lynched their innocent fellow man be expected to treat a animal decently anyway?.The poor chimp was probably abused (not funny but true,Xanax?)The residual superiority act that some Caucasians put on is beggining to wear thin ,they ruined the country’s economy ( but blame someone else when they were running things),they say blacks play the race card when they complain about the bad lives and treatment many have been forced to endure yet they themselves have been playing the race card for 4oo years against blacks and using the divide and conquer theory and wish other minorities are ignorant enough to be their lapdogs against others. The NY times says that the racist cartoons mocks the stimulus attempt of Washington.(yeah right) They(rightwingers, racists) marched Lockstep with every idiotic decision Bush made that led to this terrible recession/depression.I know all caucasian are not racists just like not all blacks can dance, sing like Jennifer Hudson or rap(stereotypes pushed by the media)People oughta wise up and realize if we dont learn to live together we will definitely perish alone as fools.

It is the cartoonist’s opinion that the stimulus bill is such a mess that it could’ve been written by a chimp. All he’s implying is that now that Travis is gone, they’ll have to recruit another chimp to write the next one. That’s it! End of story!

Everyone has used the racist moniker to the point of redundancy. The stimulus package is a joke and the monkey was shot. I have never heard an African-American referred to as a monkey, (but I guess the old folks here have) so the cartoon’s message was different for me. A monkey stoked on Xanax could have written a better stimulus package than the fools in DC.
The old folks here saw what they wanted to see, maybe too many racists thoughts in your heads. The accusations thrown at the GOP are asinine, they didn’t draw the cartoon. The dramatic over-generalizations are also asinine. I’m not a republican but the BS name calling from both sides is excessive and juvenile. Someone here slapped a KKK moniker on the GOP, how would you like it if the conservatives decided to start calling liberals baby rapers? Not true but unless you’re totally stupid you get the point.
Report thisBy Louise, February 19, 2009 at 5:17 am Link to this comment
Every now and again someone questions my strong opinions about the Republican party. Then something like this comes along and nobody questions.
The Republican party is a collection of miscreants, misfits and malcontents. Retards and delinquents who absent sense, ambition or honest ability become politicians with an R.
And moving one step beyond, we see republican supporters are about the same. Incapable of independent thought. Consumed with pettiness, blind obedience and pointless hate. Stupid, lazy and eager to stay that way, they ask just one thing of their leaders. That they reflect an accurate picture of themselves.
They have their own peculiar morality, often characterized by a lack of integrity. They see crime as something only poor people do, mindless of their own poverty. They see God as someone who owes them and Gods spokesman as someone smarter than God. They vote for the candidate who makes the least sense and boast proudly about their own petty contribution to the elevation of that nonsense. They embrace lies and glorify hate and violence, and unless absolutely necessary pay no attention to what they soak up and repeat as fact. But then even if attention is paid, they cant remember what happened yesterday and don’t know how to understand what might happen tomorrow, so attention matters little.
The most excellent example is what is happening right now in California. Caving to the pressure of “talk” radio, their Republican leaders refuse to support their Republican governor and California will begin laying people off by the thousands. And when it’s one of them, they wont remember, how to remember there is a connection between their vitriolic hate and their vanishing job.
They are like a synthetic sponge. Able to soak up huge quantities of anything pored on them and able to shrink in size quickly, once the poring stops. Leaving behind the sour smell of something moldy and distasteful.
They think they are funny and clever, never realizing if someone laughs it’s not with them, it’s at them. Not for their clever wit and humor, but because sometimes it’s hard to not laugh at such blatant stupidity.
But every now and again, their stupidity steps beyond the laughable and becomes just plain dangerous. This is such a case.
Unfortunately it’s not against the law to be stupid. And I guess that’s a good thing, because occasionally we all do stupid things. But the republicans have elevated stupidity to an art form, if you want to call this badly drawn so-called cartoon art. What it really is, is a reflection of how low a desperate to be accepted “artist” will go, to get published.
But scarier than that is the “artists” inability to understand his creation is racist and even worse, a veiled call to assassination! And even scarier than that is the fact that he, his editor and his publisher understand their readers will think this is funny!
And that says it all.
The Republican party bares no resemblence to anything one might mistake as leadership. And the Republican leaders prove that every day. Afraid to think the “right” thing, they cave to the anger and hate they worked so hard to create. They pored fuel in the train then put a box on the throttle and prowdly stepped up front. Now they run ahead of the train trying to look like they control it, and they cant even control the spittle running out of their own mouths. The one bright spot in all of this is the train will overtake them any day now and they’ll all fall down! The downside is, as they fall they’ll pull as many of us under the train with them as they possibly can!

Sorry but I do not think the cartoon was meant to be racist in the slightest. The president did not WRITE the bill, which is what the cartoon is about in the caption, and the whole idea behind the image is obviously the story about a crazed chimpanzee attacking a woman. If anyone should be offended it should be HER family because she is still in serious condition. I heard today that the chimp ripped her eyes out. SHE should be offended by this. Anyone else who looked at the cartoon and immediately saw Pres Obama are the ones who are harbouring racial undertones. Yes I think it was an unfortunate image and do not think that the artist thought of the consequences, but does that not prove he did NOT mean it as a racial attack? People are waiting and watching for the racists to come out of the shadows and jumping on anything they can construe in such a manner. Think about it, who should be offended? Those who wrote the stimulus bill (who are predominantly WHITE people, are they not??) or the family of the woman who was torn to shreds by a chimp yesterday?? THINK about it.

Only racists will think this horrible cartoon is okay.If your family member was killed by police let’s see if you think it’s the “truth”,the obvious racial connotations are obvious.Since Obama has become president their hatred of a african american male is more the their love for their country ,dont they realize if Obama fails we all fail ,no matter what color!Slaves built the white house it’s about time a brother went in the front door since most previous caucasian occupants have succeeded in going out the “back door”,give Pres.Obama a chance instead of mock executions in cartoons and then rationalizing the racist innuendos.

This cartoon is truth. The bill was written by a bunch of people just taking orders - they are a bunch of chimps - lobbyists and the senators and congresspeople that blindly vote yes on something they’ve never read.
I see this in no way a reference to the POTUS. He didn’t write a thing.
The stimulus bill will only stimulate one thing - inflation. Get out of your FRNs while you can.
Want to learn why the chimp went crazy? Hint: It’s the same reason all the school shooting have occurred - psychotropic drugs.
BTW, the advertisement on this page is an oxymoron Clean Coal. LOL!

The Real Issue is the statement and the Cartoon. This is not a joke. 1st of all the shooting of the monkey has nothing at all to do with the Stimulus Bill. 2nd the statement is directly associated with the president who happens to be African American. This same statement would never have been made about any other president under the same conditions.
My fellow Americans, this is blatant racism at its best and the so-called cartoonist needs to be reprimanded and an apology needs to be given to the president and the American people.
You need to know that Delonas who always has a reason for this type of action. He has done this before and has gotten with it. THIS MUST STOP.
If the NY Post officials do not know, there will be a team of people who will be sending this information and organizing not only to demonstrate that the Post needs to apologize but that the Post needs to take action or action will be taken in different ways (i.e. advertisers/blogs/websites etc.).
Also, there will be action to have various groups including the Department of Labor and the Attorney Generals office to look at the employment policy and the number of minority employees who work as executives with the Post. The NY Post would not have sanctioned this type of editorial non-sense along with some past so-called editorial so-called cartoons if minorities were part of the decision-making process prior to publication.
With this in mind, this writer requests that action be taken against this paper for the racial act of publication. If the law won’t support action, the people will.

I don’t think it was meant as racist, but I can see how it could be interpreted that way. I always called Bush a chimp…

So, is the American Right deliberately trying to marginalize itself? Or do its loudest voices really have no clue as to what’s appropriate these days?

I don’t see controversy in this cartoon, I see either two cops who happened to be to talking politics at the same time that they had to shoot a chimp, or two cops who feel strongly against the stimimulus bill that they believe a chimp wrote it. Racist minds try to connect the Chimp with president Obama, because president Obama didn’t write the stimulus bill, I bet dollars against Pesos that he hasn’t even read it!!

Well, here we are; partisan tripe meant to take the spot light from the facts regarding important issues of the recession and President Obamas stimulus effort. Of course, the cartoon was aimed at President Obama and of course there are inferences comparing him to a beserk chimp but this is typical of partisan politicians and their supporters. Rush Limbaugh must love this and the left leaning democrats fall for the bait as always.

Crystal Clear, you are coming in very foggy on that one…what do you mean?
Why show a CHIMP if it was written by “CHUMPS”??
Well, hell, I dont understand the entire premise. We should stop giving it attention, I guess…

No, what the cartoon really meant to say, is that the stimulus package wasn’t written by a CHIMP; but if the public thinks that it will work they must be a bunch of CHUMPS!

The GOP (and NYDN) is truly, honestly losing its fricking collec tive mind—like they had one to begin with…
