According to a Palestinian census, the population of Gaza jumped by 40 percent between 1997 and 2007. West Bank officials expect the Gaza population, which they estimate at 1.4 million, to double over the next 21 years.

The growth rate in Gaza is roughly three times the global average, according to U.N. estimates.

Most of Gaza’s residents are U.N.-registered refugees.

With the Palestinian population booming and a two-state solution slipping further and further away, the world waits to see whether Israel will institutionalize apartheid or give the occupied a vote and risk losing the Jewish state.

There are no good options without an independent Palestinian state.

BBC:

The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics estimated the annual growth rate at 3.3% and said the population would double in 21 years at that rate.

The UN estimates the world’s current average population growth at 1.17%.

In a statement, the West Bank-based bureau said: “Assuming a stable growth during the coming years, the Gaza Strip population will multiply [double] in 21 years.”

Frankly I don’t see why so many people are so excited
about creating yet another Arab states. There already
are 22 or 23 states. All of them completely screwed up.
Filthy, oppressed, unproductive, without basic civil
liberties. No equality for women, no freedom of
religion, no freedom of speech. The old Jew-hatred is
driving the popular anti-Israeli sentiment.
*******

Does it make any sense that the tiny-tinny Jewish state should give land to Arabs who have conquered all of M.E. and North Africa and exterminated the local populations there?
Would the world really be better without the Jews?

Ed Harges, I believe you have hit the proverbial nail on the head.  Israel’s “accidental” killings of Palestinians are no accident at all, but part of a larger strategy to make the Palestinians so miserable they leave, then Israel can say “Look, they left their homes voluntarily, why can’t we take the land now?”

Despicable, immoral, and COMPLETELY independent of the fact that the Israelis are European Jews and the Palestinians are mostly Muslims.

@Howard. You may be surprised to learn that Israel controls the air, the sea, and the land borders to Gaza. Israel controls any imports or exports, hence the tunnels. Hamas is the democratically elected government and Israel is the only country in the world that has a policy of assassinating the members of it’s neighbors democratically elected government. The only terrorist organisation in the middle-east is the Israeli government - all the organisations branded terrorist by the US media are in fact resistance - which you may also be surprised to learn is a legal right. When Israel recognises the right of Palestine to exist then there will be peace in the middle-east.

@samg the ‘rockets’ you talk of are at best psychologically uplifting to a people undergoing genocide by the 5th biggest military machine in the world. They pose no threat whatsoever to Israel and are just the latest Cassus Belli for the ongoing ethnic cleansing of what is left of Palestine. You and Howard and other Zionist shills will only be content when Palestine is wiped off the map.

Israel is a gigantic, stinking, fat ogre that sits on Palestine and grunts and farts as the Palestinians are crushed and suffocated underneath.

Hamas’s fault.  More interested in trying to kill Israelis, who have left years ago, than trying to build a nation.  Not even started the first step of nation building… like countries that have emerged in the last decades.

Countries around the world who are waiting for the first sign of normalcy from Hamas to help out.  Gaza could be awash in bucks and social and economic largesse if they acted in a normal fashion.

What are they supposed to do? They can’t work, go to school, or even get out of the house much of the time. Gaza is on the sea, but they can’t go swimming: Israel shells them when they get in the water. There’s no money to go to the movies, if there any movies to go to. They can’t even turn on the lights, much of the time. Hell, they can’t get enough to eat. They don’t even get enough water to drink, because Israel hogs that.

They might as well enjoy the affection and physical beauty of their spouses and lovers, and have some more kids to keep them company. At least, with all the ugliness and destitution the Palestinians have to endure in Gaza, they can make love and have children. Children can bring beauty and humor and a sense of purpose to life. Do we begrudge the Palestinians even this? Must they simply endure Israel’s steady mass murder without asserting themselves as living people even in this basic way? Israel wants them simply to sit in the dark and die without complaint.

Israel is a gigantic, stinking, fat ogre that sits on Palestine and grunts and farts as the Palestinians are crushed and suffocated underneath.

In the usual way in the Zioist media, the subtext of this piece is anti-Palestinian. Viewed from a world historical perspective, the largest increases in population occur in the poor countries, and decrease as a country becomes more economically developed.  So Africa has the largest population increase and Europe has a negative increase.

Israel, in preventing the development of the Palestinian economy, and destroying what has developed, is fomenting the increase in Palestian population, which can only be solved either by economic development, or by Israeli ethnic cleansing.

Since the Israeli power structure, and all its major parties, and the Zionist influenced American power structure, prefer Israeli expansion to Israeli security, US-Israeli power is historically on a track to increased ethinic cleasning, not only of Occupied Territories, but of Palestinians in Israel proper.  Israel currently has the largest eocnomic inequality of any developed country, and the population growth rate reflects the economic oppression.

No way is the Israeli-Palestinian problem going to be solved. One state solution: Jews are overwhelmed by the fast-growing Arab population, as your article indicates is happening in Gaza. Two-state solution: Israel is threatened by many more rockets from the West Bank than Hamas has ever fired from much smaller Gaza. Plus A couple of hundred thousand Jewish settlers on the West Bank refuse to be moved and have enough political and military connections with the Israeli centers of power so they can’t be moved. Some kind of land swap might be possible. But that again raises the possibility of more rocket attacks on Israel, and given the Gaza rockets, Israeli Jews probably aren’t going to allow it. Where does all this leave us? More than sixty years after the founding of Israel, there’s no indication that enough Arabs are willing to accept the existence of Israel to make peace possible. And the Israelis, knowing this, are not about to give very much if anything. Good luck George Mitchell.

No one seems to be asking why the population is rising so fast in Gaza…and in other areas of the world where Muslims are attempting to secure power.

The Jewish occupation and ethnic cleansing of Palestine has, with impunity, so far: imprisoned Gazans in a concentration camp, written numbers on their arms, slaughtered them en masse, experimented with weaponry and psychological warfare - so really, what’s to stop them trying to sterilize Palestinians? Just when is Spielberg et al going to make a movie about the genocide done in his name?

Hey, could this help explain why Israel keeps accidentally-on-purpose killing such a high proportion of women and children with its precision weaponry? “Oops — sorry! We just killed some more demographic problems (— er, we mean, kids)! Ha, ha!”
