Stimulus Survives Senate Pecking

The Senate passed its own version of the stimulus package Tuesday, slashing funding in areas that would most effectively stimulate the economy, such as aid to low-income Americans and states, while expanding tax cuts. The House and Senate bills must now be reconciled with one another.

ProPublica has assembled a handy chart that illustrates the differences between the two packages.

New York Times:

Despite numerous differences in the two bills approved in the Senate and the House, the overall scope of the economical recovery effort is now clear — sprawling in its reach, with tax cuts for individuals, families and businesses, assistance for jobless and low income Americans, aid to states, and huge spending on education, healthcare, energy and technology.

The Senate approved its bill most along party lines, by a vote of 61 to 37, with three Republicans joining 56 Democrats and two independents in favor. (There is one vacancy in the Senate, from Minnesota, and Senator Judd Gregg of New Hampshire, a Republican nominated to become Mr. Obama’s Commerce Secretary, did not vote.)

Repugs exposing their utter disdain for the American Way of life.Cutting out education and school construction. Cutting out healthcare for the unemployed.Cutting state Aid by half. Rejecting ANY assistance to US (the tax payers who will be footing the bill anyway), But willing to roll over within a week to pass a Mass embezzlement bill for The Wall Street con artists.
Funny how these SAME Repugs never put forth a stimulus bill for the People while still in power- not even one more of their beloved Useless tax cut bills. Funny they still offer no other propsals than those that have utterly failed repeatedly during their reign of terror. Funny how easily Paulson could wait to offer his 2 1/2 page Death Threat/Ransom Note to the Repug congress and not be held accountable for having not sounding the Alarm 6 months earlier when he’s decided to spend 5 minutes scratching it out in crayon.
How dare the Repugs call for tax cuts when our taxes ahve been cut due to fewer work hours and Unemployment anyway. Or those who have lost their homes, so property taxes are no longer a problem. How dare they fane concern about the deficit when they have charged up the biggest bill over the last 8 yrs (after squandering the surplus they were handed). Unemployment and Gov’t assistance requirement are growing by leaps and bounds, That increases the Deficit and does nothing to begin to replenish it to aid our children in the future. Tax cuts actually work against our recovery since it is only shortlived from depleted base.
Repugs have maintained their Red gang color because it signifies their Allegience and matches their Red Coats!
Repugs love to claim the Revolutionary War was about Taxation, but consitently fail to complete the sentence…It was Taxation WITHOUT REPRESENTATION! repugs are not Representing US, they are Representing their Corp Nobles. No difference between a Family Crest and a Logo when the masses are being screwed to put more Cake in the Hole of the Elite.
As a parent, I will gladly pay more taxes, when I get a job, to help eleviate some of the Burden the Repugs have laid Upon our Children.Anyone who supports the repugs BS Tax Break mantra are not only Unamerican, they are shitty parents! the money you’ll stick in you pockets now will cost your child double in the future. Keep voting Repug, you might as well put shackles on your kids now and start leading them to the Global Auction block.A child born today has been saddled with at least a $16,000 Tax Debt- First breath begins their repayment obligation. granted continuing to undermine Education may assure they are too ignorant to realize they will live their lives as Indentured slaves.
