Another Nominee With Tax ProblemsPosted on Feb 5, 2009What exactly was the point of that endless questionnaire Team Obama famously had prospective worker bees fill out? A fifth Obama nominee has run into some controversy, the fourth due to a failure to pay taxes, although in the case of Labor Secretary-designate Hilda Solis, her husband is to blame. It seems Mr. Solis recently had to settle $6,400 in tax liens on his business. Those aren’t exactly of Tom Daschle proportions, but it makes one wonder, given how rampant this has been among the select group of Obama nominees, whether anyone actually pays taxes. No wonder we have such a huge deficit. Beyond the tax issues, Republicans felt that as labor secretary, Solis would commit the crime of being too friendly to labor groups. How dare she?!

They would not be for it if they were not going to gain from it. Simple as that. Regressive taxes favor the guy with the resources.

Most likely 2/3 of the populace exists with some sort of tax infraction/indebtedness. A flat tax, properly constructed, would work. The rich would never let it happen since it would do away with their beloved loopholes. i.e. all told, Buffet’s secretary pays a much higher percentage of her income in taxes than he does.

If a small business owes such in taxes, they may have trouble making ends meet, especially with the economy as it tumbles into the resulted quagmire from the people pointing their fingers. $6400 is small potatoes compared to the ass holes pointing their fingers. Of course the pointers are Republicans, who represent Big Business, they are very uncomfortable having a labor secretary who represents labor.
Hell, the CEO caps is scaring the hell out of them. Integrity is not their strong suit, in fact it is not even an option and forget about accountability.
Any ideas how people can support Solis nomination?

Come on people. This is a Republican issue trying to convince someone, anyone, that the “Fair” tax is the way to go. It is for rich people! That is why they are clamoring for it! Nothing wrong with the tax system except that the rich people can afford it, and obviously cheat all the time ,so, if we keep it they have to sweat bullets for the rest of their lives all the while complaining. Obama isn’t going to find one kat that doesn’t have “tax problems” cause they are all part of the problem in this country. Greed. His vetting process must be good because it will expose all of them. What if Bush had tried to vet his whacko appointments: all who were failures, then we would know for sure who are the crooks. But then again we know they all were just like Obama’s Clinton people.

This is in the same league as McCain’s unpaid property taxes.

Exactly. The tax laws are so convoluted that anyone with a somewhat complicated return can be “shown” to have “tax problems.”
And just how many of these nominees do their own returns, anyway?
Let the nominees correct whatever the gotcha of the day is, and then get rid of the income tax completely.

Who doesn’t have tax problems?
This whole country has tax problems, our tax system is crooked as a dog’s hind leg.
No one likes it, it’s impossible for everyone, even the people that work there.
Instead of focusing on people with tax problems we should be looking at a tax system that causes tax problems for everyone.
