U.N. Suspends Gaza Aid, Blames Israel

The U.N. Relief and Works Agency’s food distribution center at Beach Camp in the Gaza Strip.

The United Nations is suspending relief activity in the Gaza Strip following multiple attacks by Israeli forces. “Our installations have been hit, our workers have been killed in spite of the fact that the Israeli authorities have the co-ordinates of our facilities and that all our movements are co-ordinated with the Israeli army,” said a U.N. Relief and Works Agency spokesman quoted by the BBC.

BBC:

Unrwa’s move came shortly after it said one person had been killed and two hurt when a fork-lift truck on a UN aid mission came under Israeli tank fire at Gaza’s Erez crossing.

It said it was “with great regret” that it had been forced to make a difficult decision.

“We have suspended our operations in Gaza until the Israeli authorities can guarantee our safety and security,” said Unrwa spokesman Chris Gunness.

The mighty Zohan army again proves it’s mettle.

The Israelis haven’t been on the right side of this campaign since before day one.

Beyond the pale of ascentioned human conduct in 2009.

It seems fairly clear that Israel is totally out of control now, even if its initial incursions might (might) be justified.  To make no distinction between “enemies” (even perceived “real” ones) and aid workers is so far beyond the pale that it should (and, we can hope, will) lead to unanimous global condemnation of Israel at this point.

Peace.  (maybe…)

Though I am in a state of mourning which leaves no room to express pleasure at anything, I am going to make an exception and say that I am cautiously pleased at your seeing the light after an initial erring path!

May you continue to enjoy the truth-based peace!

No, the Israel power structure has a military aim, to starve the Gazan population, destroy the tunnels bringing in food, to steal the gas reserves off the Gazan coast, worth 4 billion.  It is supported by Obama-Bush, the Dem-Gop bloc, and overwhelming in the US resolution of the House of Representatives.

However it is opposed overwhelmingly by rank and file Dems.  Naomi Klein in a recent article states it can strengthen the boycott against Isreal, and Cyrena, on another thread,  has some good places to start.

Maani,

Yep…this really is pretty much it. The dead UN aid workers, and the UN SCHOOL!? This is just beyond anything that’s come before, unless we start talking about Lebanon 2 years ago. Even THERE they didn’t kill UN workers for Christ’s sake!

I don’t know what to think…Out of control is as good as anything I guess…

According to the London Times Israel has fired white phosphorus rockets into Gaza. Why is that not reported by Truthdig? Perhaps you are only digging down to the first nanometer below the political surface and therefore treat us to trite garbage about Sara Palin. Wasted space!

No, Fadel, the UN is not a useless organization, even though it is largely under the control of the US and the West.  It allows a forum for third world countires and provides a basis for a true form of world coordination as the West’s world power declines historically.

there are many resolutions that are passed 260 to one, with the US and perhaps a few of its puppets objecting to common decency.  I remember one under Reagan where the US declared, alone, that food was not a human right, against the vote of the rest of the world.

With the US on record for this inhuamanity, although of course blanked out in the US media, over time the people of the world, and even the US, come to understand what is really behind the rhetoric of Freedom and Democracy.  And the people of the US eventually come to understand how massive is the deceit of the US mainstream truth.

The UN is feeble but not useless.  It expresses common humanity against the despotism and barbarism of power systems that pretend to be Democracies.  IN a century or two it or its successors may well express the humanity of all earthpeople.

Keen observers long time ago have come to the conclusion that the U.N. is a useless organization, made a mockery by the way it’s treated by the U.S. and Israel!

However, the little value it has is that it serves as a record for the hundreds of times Israel and the U.S. were on the side of aggression, terrorism and violations of human rights.

Obviously, the Israelis knew that the UN could not stay if its installations were bombed.  This was part of the planning of the invasion.  This also happened in the war in the Balkans back in the 90’s and also in Iraq and Afganistan, so the Israelis were well aware of what the consequences would be if they hit the school.  It is a war crime to halt food shipments to people under military occupation.  It is also one of several components which constitute genocide according to the Geneva conventions.

Israel deliberately fired, knowing that this would be the United Nations actions.  It is time for the United States to stop ALL AID to Israel, now!!  It is time for the US to stop allowing the bully of the block to continue claims of defending itself, as the continue to produce this holocaust against the Palestinian people!!!
