The U.S. Senate is safe from “Hardball” host Chris Matthews—at least for now. Matthews will stay put on the media-specific side of the political arena instead of making a bid for a Senate seat in his home state of Pennsylvania, as suggested by the recent scuttlebutt about him.

Los Angeles Times:

In a routine production meeting before his daily show, “Hardball,” Matthews informed the staff that he was not going to pursue the seat, said network spokesman Jeremy Gaines. The cable host, who is negotiating a new contract at MSNBC, declined to comment.

We are launching a major overhaul of our comments section.

In addition to more robust spam filtering and moderation, new features include the ability to rate other comments, sort how they are displayed and respond directly via e-mail or in a thread.

Unfortunately, commenters will lose their existing Truthdig identities. It's a pain, we know, but on the plus side you will now be able to log in with a plethora of options, including Google, Twitter, Facebook and Disqus accounts.

Before launching this system we spent months in discussion with our top commenters. We listened to the feedback and we hope you like what we've come up with.

Pennsylvania’s loss is… never mind.

I don’t know why he didn’t run—as a lifelong resident of the Keystone State, I assure you that Tweety has the penetrating intellect of a Santorum, the rigid and uncompromising integrity of a Specter, and the professionally-styled hair of the Democratic place-holder!  Casey!  I forgot his name for a minute.
