A Palestinian aid worker signals for help after one of the instances of the “pressure” Israel is putting on Hamas.

After five days of almost constant aerial attacks and the deaths of nearly 400 Palestinians, the Israeli government has refused a 48-hour cease-fire in the Gaza Strip, arguing that it needs to “keep up the pressure on Hamas”—a startling euphemism for its lethal assaults—as the Israeli military ramps up for a likely ground invasion.

The New York Times:

After five straight days of punishing air attacks, Israel rejected a proposal for a 48-hour cease-fire in its military onslaught in Gaza on Wednesday, saying it would maintain pressure on Hamas. But it did not rule out future diplomacy and was open to ways of increasing humanitarian aid.

The decision was announced after a security cabinet meeting here.

The Israeli air strikes on Gaza continued on Wednesday, and at least 20 more rockets were fired by Hamas militants in reprisal into southern Israel, including three that landed in the city of Beersheba. Mark Regev, the spokesman for Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, said earlier that the country’s leaders “view it as important to keep up the pressure on Hamas.”

“We cannot give them a respite to rearm and regroup,” he said. “We need a real, sustainable solution, not a Band-Aid.” But he added that Israel would still explore ways to expedite humanitarian aid to Palestinian civilians in Gaza and would also explore a broader diplomatic effort to achieve a lasting cease-fire.

The only emerging reality from this ongoing carnage is that Israel once again, has succeeded in revealing its ugly face to the world. It also appears from facts on the ground, that military incursion into Gaza will not be an easy task that can pass without paying a heavy price.

Another example of Israel’s Ethnic cleansing just reported by the AP:

Israel bombed a mosque it said was used to store weapons and destroyed the homes of more than a dozen Hamas operatives Friday, but under international pressure, the government allowed hundreds of Palestinians with foreign passports to leave besieged Gaza.

I couldn’t fool you as I did Fadel——yes, I am an operative, but not to worry the end is near.  Just between you and me the Israeli Army will be conducting a surgical ground invasion into Gaza.  And further, as you can well surmise, all military operations will cease well ahead of the inauguration in order to spare Obama of having to address a sticky situation.

Oh, by the way where is Hezbollah?  I would have thought they would show support by opening up a northern incursion——as they say talk is cheap!

“..Hamas, this time, succeeded in goading Israel to military action..”

Wrong again, and as usual, the opposite occurred. Israel goaded Hamas, NOT into ‘military action’ seeing as there is no ‘military’ to even consider on the Palestinian side of this, aside from angry and frustrated rock throwing youth.

And just as usual, it’s ISRAEL making use of the propaganda in a way NO OTHER group of people on the civilized planet have ever been able to do as effectively, for as long. The most fundamentally basic tool in Israel’s arsenal is their unmatched (ever in the history of the world) capacity for DECEIT!! But this victimization myth has just completely rotted out.

To suggest that Hamas finally ‘goaded’ Israel into military action is a cruel joke, when there’s been no secret that Israel has planned the attack for six-months, (just as they did in 2006 against Lebanon) and that the promise to lift the months old blockade of collective punishment was a bait and switch.

You should pay more attention blackspheare, unless you’re an operative, in which case, you’ve failed miserably.

It is not a good sign that we enter 2009 with a hot war in the ME.  The Israelis have proven their prowess at using implements of destruction and the Palestinians have proven their ability to use PR.  We all that, like the other conflicts this will end in a truce with brief respite from fighting until the next time with each side taking advantage of the then current situation.  Hamas, this time, succeeded in goading Israel to military action, but what they failed to fully comprehend is that the Arab world is not totally behind them in particular, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and of course Fatah.  What many people don’t realizes is that there is no love lose between the Palestinians in the West Bank and those in Gaza——they have grown apart.  The Palestinians in the West Bank have a fairly robust economy and look down upon their poorer brethren in Gaza.  Divide and conquer is still an effective political tool.

There as I see it—not a possible way for the conflict in a fair manner, for the Jews, so they should stop negotiating with the terrorists, because it just adds fuel to the fire—in that the terrorists will use the media as a weapon. As a ultra liberal pacifist—I see it is the only way for the conflict to ever start to end, is for the Israelis to walk away from amy discussions.??

Then, if the terrorists, with their pals, want to change their destructive paths, that will have to be their choice; but—in the short term, and as a tactical matter to stop the rocket fire, Israel should evict everyone in the West Bank and Gaza ,and call it the state of Israel, and a have a more liberal right of return for Jews; so that they could have dual citizenship, to protect the interests of Jews worldwide.

To Cyrena,  I have maintained for years now after seeing the barbarity of the Israelis,  they can only be considered barbarians.
I heard on a talk show where a woman stated that she just came back from
Israel and the Gaza is filthy.  Why in hell wouldn’t it be filthy?  The Gazans have no way to dispose of garbage, trash.  Sewage is rampant due to the Israeli’s
preventing the cleanup.  No water, no electricity,  all thanks to the Israelis.
I charge each and everyone of you to say a prayer for these Palestinians.  God is
their only hope.  America will not help them,  they give billions of aid and military
killing machines to Israel to slaughter these people.
Zionist money is the reason.  American politicians will not give up the
“Money Tit” from America.  Shame on them!  And shame on you if you are not
ashamed of the politicians that you keep putting in office.  janet

Well Fadel,

That pretty much sums it up.

I feel your rage. I have it as well.

This is so far beyond even the earlier barbarity of Israel, when they at least honored temporary cease fires for the Holy Days. (I vaguely remember a time some decades ago, when that in fact occurred some comparative regularity.)

This just shows how much further Israel has fallen, in any sense of legitimacy based on Global Principles beyond the Age of Enlightenment. In fact, I see it as a part of their final dissolution. A Euphemism of the moral and physical state of Israel is a fire-cracker lit at both ends. The irony is that they lit the fuses themselves, and have done everything possible to maintain them.

Israel is truly suicidal, and the ultimate tragedy of it - AS IS ALWAYS been the case, is that they take others down with them.

It’s up to the rest of the world to remove the danger that Israel is, from the rest of the society. That’s what ANY society is expected to do for it’s citizens. If there is a psychopath on the loose, we’re supposed to track him down and isolate him from the rest of us. It’s what we’re OBLIGATED to DO!!

Israel has gotta be figuring out by now, that their lawless 60-year existence is about to come to an end, at least in the lawless and rogue form that it has always existed.

Israel was created on lawless principles!
Israel continues to prove it’s a lawless entity!
So what’s for them to reject halting their terrorism for a 24 hours so the dead Palestinians can be buried!
Israel, en essence, is telling the whole world to go get fucked!
So only lawless methods will be effective in giving them a bitter taste of their own medicine!

I wish I had that magic weapon so I get the honor to use it effectively!

Thanks to Nahida for posting the below URL. I must confess that the images are horrific.

May be Livni will get a chance to see them. Just a few days ago, she was telling the world…Israel is NOT killing Palestinian civilians in Gaza.

While you are at it, take a look at the “Sophisticated Kassam” rockets. They are really “High Tech”???

If the Israeli’s actually think that this latest bombardement is meant to target only Hamas, then they must think that the world is made up of a bunch of idiots. The Palestinian electorate voted for Hamas in a democratic election and bombs whether their smart or not ,don’t distinguish between Hamas ,women or children.Ms Livni does understand that this unrelenting violence is designed to break the Palestinian will for resistance and by attempting to divide the Palestinians from the so-called Hamas enemy will only leed to failure.

Both mindsets are intractable and therefore no solution is possible.  More of the same appears inevitable.  Arab Nations are divided by religion and policy. America backs Israeli colonialism with aid and arms.  It is continued war and dominion not peace we are speaking about. In a circular world where our actions return to us, these actions represent insanity.  National insanity is accelerating and I believe will increasingly accelerate.  Absent a respect for all life the world’s peoples will destroy themselves. Life or death? Decide before it’s too late.

Anyone who believes that the leaders of Hamas were still at the addresses where Israel thought they were one hour after the bombing began needs to see his/her shrink. Beginning one hour after the first bombs fell this became terror-bombing.
