Political Crisis Puts Thailand on HoldPosted on Nov 27, 2008
The Thai army is debating whether or not to intervene in a political standoff it helped launch some two years ago when it ousted then-Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. Opponents of both Thaksin and the current PM have seized and shut down Bangkok’s two airports, a devastating blow to a country dependent on tourism.

Since this outbreak in 2008 we have experienced another attempt by the Reds to break down the government and in doing so, caused more conflict and sadly, many deaths and victims during the struggle. Again, right or wrong, the activists have bought tourism to an all time low.

The People’s Alliance for DEMOCRACY are holding their country hostage to promote their anti-democracy campaign. This is one of the dumbest political movements in recent times. The fundamental ideology of their group is that the majority of the population is too ignorant for democracy, so the power should be placed in the hands of the educated urban elite. They are wrong and they will lose. Democracy may not be perfect, but it is now generally recognized as the least worst option, so campaigning against it is just stupid, especially when doing it at the tremendous expense of one’s own country, in terms of the economy and reputation. Protesting is one thing, but shutting down international access to one’s country until a democratically elected government steps down, in opposition to the will of the vast majority of the country, is selfish and stupid. Give it up already.
