Hillary Clinton Is Kind of, Definitely, Maybe (Not) the Next Secretary of StatePosted on Nov 17, 2008
Here’s a summary of the day’s Clinton watch via Political Wire: The Guardian says she’ll definitely take the job that The Washington Post reports she may be up for. All eyes now turn to Bill, who’s Global Initiative, huge personality and international superstardom complicate the vetting process. Update: The Politico quotes yet another anonymous source who says the reporting on this story is inaccurate and Clinton has yet to make up her mind.

Those partisan democrat arsonists better be waiting with their cans of gasoline to burn down the white house in january—because this looks to be a 90’s retro administration, where the only change is…is?

You see, Obama was the enema for our really severe case of Neocon-stipation in this country. Everyone’s OK now.
Shouldn’t we all take Obama’s lead—we haven’t had such leadership in ages and he’s not even prez yet—and get behind him and get to work? He won’t be perfect. But, my god, he makes Bush look like an ear mite by comparison.
I think you’ll be proud of your new president.

Hillary should be the Attorney General. Richardson should head the State Department. Will Bill now go to the Senate? Should be a lot of fun to watch.

I don’t see why Clinton would be such a bad choice for the secretary of state position. She is intelligent, savvy and has a lot of foreign policy experience. She is well known and respected throughout the world. This might just be one area where she could do some good. I don’t like her positions on Israel/Palestine, but we have to remember that she will be the employee, not the boss. I am hopeful that we will see a more thoughtful approach to that issue despite some of the rhetoric on the campaign trail.
I am personally going to reserve judgment on an Obama administration until I see what it does or doesn’t do. I personally am not interested in nit-picking the personal views of the potential cabinet members as an exercise in premonition. Obama will be the boss and the others will work for him. His reasons for picking them probably have little to do with their on-the-issues views. For example with Rahm Emanuel, much is being said on here about his close ties with Israel, and decrying that it means Obama will be against settling the Palestinian/Israeli conflict. No one mentions that Mr. Emanuel seems to be an effective manager who is focused and organized, perfect traits for the managerial position of Chief of Staff. We have to remember that these people are picked to do specific jobs, and their own personal views are not necessarily integral to the carrying out of those jobs. In the case of Clinton she has pretty good views, and many on this site were strong supporters of her before, and thought she would better agent of change than Obama. Now she is picked to be Secretary of State and its a signal of the continuing Bush-style politics? I will start judging once Obama has the job and is actually governing.

Apparently the fire we were supposed to hold his feet to went out. I notice that all the Obama freaks who posted here incessently during the campaign are now strangely silent.

At least LIEberman doesn’t claim to be a Democrat!
Report thisHillary set Mac’s campaign stratedgy Up for him. She started all the race card throwing, the Fear mongering, the association misrepresentation.
In fact she even invoked the assasination of RFK THREE times….Was that a Request?
Hillary has voted with this corrupt adminstration every damn step of the Way. She & Bill laid the ground work for this current economic disaster.
“Obliterate Iran” is not telltale enough that she should NOT have any place within this new admin?
Hell I couldn’t tell the differnce Between Hillary and McCain- are we sure Mac’s not just Borrowing Some of Rudy’s Drag outfits?
Shit she can’t even keep her lies straight, or even bothers to try and disguise them. Bosnia sniper fire? She didn’t even bother to claim she mixed up the country where such an incidence may have occured “Did I say Bosnia, I meant Somilia”...Of course Because It never happened ANYWHERE but in her arrogant self deluded mind.
Hillary couldn’t even manage being on the Armed Service Committee….A little thing called Oversight. How & Where Our troops are deployed, adequate troop levels and equipment, Redeployment schedules, Aftercare for wounded….A Damn Exit Plan!?!She comes out one day Demanding and exit plan and the next she’s refusing to propose one on the campaign trail. Please she’s either an idiot, an egomaniac or a Whore. None of which qualifies her to be a Sec of State EITHER!
The Clintons and the DLC are part of the Democratic Party’s less admirable History. Let’s leave them where they belong, on the pages of future history books covering the Failures of Politicians.
I Hate the Clintons and I voted for that SOB (and his status seeking opportunist wife) TWICE! (My sincerest apologized to all those I debated throughout the ‘90’s - You were Right I was Wrong)

So when do the liberals and progressives recognize that the Democratic Party is not their friend?

Also, what team of rivals?
all seem to be pretty much centrists to me of the DLc corporate stripe.
See any truly progressive picks? Anyone from the progressive caucus? The Black caucus? Nope. Just Clintonistas running the show. Wonder why we voted in change—might as well have gotten Hillary anyway for all the change - or hope of change we are getting.

Oh god, will it ever be over?
Report thisWhat will it take to free us from the Clintons once and for all?
What a laugh this entire process has become. Few online and off actually support Clinton and actually present arguments against her and why others under consideration may be better qualified candidates—but this is being rammed down our throats as if we are all cheering. It is a foregone conclusion and if the Clintons and their transition team actors pushed her inevitability then Obama is a naive fool if he thinks they aren’t going to use their inroads to run roughshod all over him in the days to come. I can smell their pep rally spirit pushing the agenda.

coloradokarl - you’ve wittingly, or unwittingly hit on the inside-the-Beltway buzz which goes something like this. Projected, the Clintons plan to launch her 2012 presidential campaign next year by covertly, and/or openly passing off the Obama presidency as a failed presidency (with what’s on his ‘table’ now, chances are by next year it still will be) thus setting up Hillary to ‘take’ the reins in 2012.
It would seem that Obama has taken to heart and is putting into practice “keep your friends close and your enemies even closer.” Hillary on the ‘outside’ is potentially dangerous: On the ‘inside’ she’s under Obama’s control. (Obama’s shrewdness never ceases to amaze me.)
(On the other hand, please Mr. Obama, any cabinet post but SoS.)

By Arius,
“The media and the Obama campaign ripped the nomination out from under Hillary”
That is not my take on the situation at all! Hillary, billed as heavy-weight champion of the primary season (before even one vote was cast) proved that she was really a lightweight empty pant suit. She couldn’t dump her connections to Walmart, Tyson, and the Rose law firm, and while she attempted to engorge her connection to CDF, the Director of that agency (Marion Wright Edelman) failed to endorse her, saying instead that she (Hillary) had “Betrayed the children”
What happened in the primaries (IMHO) was that a lightfooted Cassius Clay smacked the shit out of the title holder. The vaulted “Clinton machine” sputtered and stalled.
Her support of Bush’s ill fated venture in Iraq, and her war-speak “Obliterate Iran” statements should be enough to sink her quest for State, but who knows, the spineless Democrats didn’t even have the nerve to punish Joe LIEberman, so she’ll probably get her office
It’s called “retro change” no one can believe in.

I agree with Outrage’s post. Hillary said if Israel was bombed by Iran that she would obliterate Iran.
Well so much for the Palestinians desire to have their own country. Madame Secretary of State Clinton will be a lap dog, not unlike Rice, for the Israelis.
Very disappointed in Obama for picking Clinton and Emanuel.

Hilary? Well Obama did say he wanted to unite America, didn’t he? If he can’t start by uniting his own party fully behind him, what else could he possibly unite? But remember, while Hilary might be prancing on the world stage, Obama is still the boss and sets the policy.

Scam after scam after scam. H. Clinton as SECRETARY OF STATE! Ms. “Obliterate Iran”???? Sad….really sad. That’s not change. It’s not even compromise. It’s capitulation to power interests.

I knew Obama was smart , but how smart? Sen Clinton, his main rival in 2008 and the biggest threat for 2012 needed to be neutralized. But How?? Remove her from the senate, Make Bills records public, and then wait for a screw-up at Sec of State and fire her…......Beware Putin, Obama’s the Real Deal

...“Kind of, Definitely, Maybe the Next Secretary of State”
LOL, yes that’s what I heard also.. it’s a definit maybe!
I certainly hope this goes through, I’m very sick of the freaking vile media and their “commentators” ripping the Clintons apart constantly over nothing. This is a very important job, certainly more important than VP which I for one, a huge fan of Hillary’s, did not want her to take even if it had been offered.
The media and the Obama campaign ripped the nomination out from under Hillary when all details, all investigations (the real kind) lead us to know the nomination for president should have been hers. They stole it from her, all of them and they owe her this.
Though personally I’ll never forgive the media, the Dem party and the Obama camp (including Obama himself) for the dirty tactics that were implemented to smear her unjustily and take the nomination.
Sadly we have no real news orginizations left in this country. anyone that thinks we do is living in denial and ignorant bliss. None of them are “news” objective.
I hope she gets the job, I hope she’s successful at it and when I want real news with the truth I’ll turn to european news orgs because CNN, Fox, and pathetic MSNBC are a complete joke-
