Thousands of Ballots Discovered in Alaska

Why is Alaska’s Sen. Ted Stevens, a felon, leading in his race for re-election after pollsters predicted a decisive loss? It could have something to do with the fact that roughly one-third of the ballots have yet to be counted, and thousands more were just discovered.

Brad Blog:

This just in from Alaska, where thousands of new ballots continue to be found each day, since it was first reported that turnout in 2008 was 11% lower than in 2004.  Thousands of ballots, nearly a third of them, remain uncounted nearly a week after the election. Their numbers could explain the strange results so far in races—- such as those of the felonious Sen. Ted Stevens (R) and the under-investigation Rep. Don Young (R)—- for which pollsters had predicted decisive losses for the Republicans.

Even with the newly acknowledged ballots and even with Alaska’s once-popular Gov. Sarah Palin and popular Sen. Barack Obama both on the Presidential ballot this year, turnout numbers still remain slightly below those from 2004. The Anchorage Daily News, with numbers somewhat out of date from those now posted below, called it all “puzzling” over the weekend, and pointed out much of what we’ve detailed here in previous posts.

Maani: I don’t get MSNBC so I haven’t seen Rachel Maddow.  I wish I did.  My point was that the right are always harping about the liberal media, with the L.A. Times among those in the forefront of their attacks, yet there was no mention of this story in the paper.  It’s unfortunate when a newspaper is owned by an illiterate (Sam Zell).

Really?  RePunConz stealing an election?  Maybe Alice Walker can give Gov Palin some advice on family matters.

Not sure if you consider MSNBC “liberal media,” but Rachel Maddow did address this issue on her show this week.

Re the Senate seat, if Stevens ultimately wins, he has two choices: resign with at least some dignity, or have the Senate censure him, which would almost certainly lead to his resignation anyway.  In either case, once the seat is empty, Palin has the right to appoint anyone she wants to it - except herself.

What would probably happen in this case is that Palin would appoint someone who would be willing to step aside if she decided to run in the next Senate election.  But that is some time away.

Palin’s power play to get Alaska’s senate seat. Governor doesn’t give her enough exposure for her 2012 run.

Repugs have perfected all the Machiavellian techniques: stealing elections, propaganda, lies, and character assassination.

Maybe a polar bear took them away in the middle of the night.

There are few poll watchers that want to go to Alaska.

What it really is is a snow job so that the Republicians stay in power because even if Stevens is rejected by the senate then a special race has to begin again in Alaska, but people should know that up in Alaska they do things their way.

Does anyone remember Northern Exposure.

Why is the so-called liberal media not covering this?  There was no mention of it in the Los Angeles Times today.

How do ballots get misplaced for these many days; there has to be a genuine effort to find out who, how, where, when and why.

How exactly do you ‘discover’ ballots, unless someone lost or tried to make them disappear?  Did they find them out on some ice-ridden fjord?
