The Bradley DefectPosted on Nov 5, 2008The latent racism that many had predicted would cut into Barack Obama’s poll numbers on Election Day—the so-called “Bradley effect”—ended up largely an unfounded concern, as exit polls showed him picking up 43% of white voters, an increase of 4 percentage points over what Democratic candidates have averaged since 1968.

The Bradley Effect was very much in evidence in this election. Here are some examples of the point lead given to Barack Obama in the latest of each of these polls:

Reuters/C-Span/Zogby_11.
Obama’s actual margin of victory in votes? 5-6 points, roughly HALF of the margin those polls gave him.
Those highly-regarded polling services were NOWHERE NEAR that far off in the 2000 and 2004 races.
