The Obama campaign released this photo of Barack Obama and Madelyn Dunham, taken in 1979.

Barack Obama’s grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, who he says had a major role in bringing him up during his early years in Hawaii, died Sunday just before midnight in Honolulu. She was 86.


CNNPolitics.com:

Sen. Barack Obama’s grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, has died following a bout with cancer, Obama and his sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng, said Monday.

She was 86.

“She was the cornerstone of our family, and a woman of extraordinary accomplishment, strength, and humility,” their statement said.

My father died in ‘03, and for a long time strange things would occur which made me sure he was still watching over me…Even periodically still I laugh when Something so ‘Dadish’ happens.I hope Sen Obama has those same experiences which let him know she is still watching over him and helping him along the Way.
Our Sincerest condolences to Sen Obama and his family…Let’s win this One for Her!

- it’s so sad that his grandmother
couldn’t make it to see Dixville Notch N.H. vote 15 to 6 for Obama
in the first returns of the 2008 election.
