Mac and Arnold: McCain and Schwarzenegger survey the crowd at a Columbus, Ohio, campaign rally on Friday.

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger put aside his appeals to post-partisan politics on Friday in favor of taking up John McCain’s party line during a campaign rally for McCain in Columbus, Ohio, but some of that message seemed to conflict with Schwarzenegger’s own practices in office.

AP via SFGate.com:

“I think there will be a backlash against all of this lopsided spending,” Schwarzenegger proclaimed at a campaign rally in Columbus.

And he knows something about lavish spending.

In California, the bodybuilder-turned actor-turned politician has become the most prolific political fundraiser in state history. He has used his Hollywood status to rake in at least $132 million since he launched his gubernatorial bid in 2003.

In addition, Schwarzenegger has taken in hundreds of thousands of dollars from influential friends and companies that have sponsored overseas trips and conferences.

In his current campaign for a ballot initiative to take the power to draw legislative districts away from state lawmakers, Schwarzenegger and his allies had spent $12 million through Oct. 18 — outspending their opponents by a ratio of 10-to-1.

As a Californian who had some hope for Schwarzenegger to be somewhat balanced in his Governorship, I was really disappointed in him for his nasty and demeaning attack on Obama at the McCain rally the other day…

It was the usual Republican macho routine, Awnuld talking about O’s skinny legs and arms, and touting McKrusty as the “Real Action Hero”, trying to feminize Obama and push McC as the real man!

I hope Maria withholds bedding priveleges for a few weeks when he returns to California…that would teach the bully boy!

I think ole Mac might have peed his pants a little, getting to meet a real celebrity!

While Americans like to make fun of Arnold for his troubles with the English language, they might be amused to learn that Austrians make fun of him for his fumbling in German. Apparently he’s not fluent in any language.

Arnold is many things, but he is not a stupid man. He has a reputation in the entertainment industry as being a brilliant businessman, and he has been involved in a lot more than just making movies. Don’t be fooled by his muscles or his accent. Also, he came into office thanks to a hapless governor named Gray Davis, who couldn’t lead a horse to water in the desert. Keep in mind that Maria Shriver, who is no dummy, is this guy’s wife. She obviously sees more than muscles between his ears. California is in the mess that it is because of an intransigent, do-nothing state legislature that is constant gridlock. You have very liberal areas right next to predominantly right-wing areas like Orange County. A governor can only do so much. Arnold made a big mistake talking on behalf of McCain last night and making those juvenile remarks about Obama, but don’t underestimate him.

When we start taking the “guvonator” as a serious political voice in america, we might want to look to the sky for those four fellows riding horses.

I just drove through the eastern panhandle of WVa this week, up through the coal counties of Fayette and Greene, on into Washington Co in southwestern PA(you know, Murtha’s racist redneck area-he’s right by the way) and did not see one Obama sign the entire 120 mile trip. I know WVa is a lost cause for tyhe dimmos(as always) but I still worry that something sleazy may be going on in PA and next door in Ohio.
But I am just a paraniod liberal, after all.

John…I wondered if it was me until I read your post.  I thought what in H*** is wrong with him.  He acted like Arnold with his 40% popularity rate had just handed him the moon.

What drives me NUTS is him saying “I’ve been tested and have the scars to prove it.”  If every guy that spent time held captive eligible for President, then there are hundreds of other guys just as good as he.  And thousands of Jews!  He literally made John Kerry, another war hero, look like a jerk and I thought tearing up another serviceman was sickening.

Not very Maverickie.

I’m so happy that you transplanted mid-westerners, who left your roots to relocate to the great state of CA., are happy with your dumb-ass selves. AHNOLD is your Governer. He is showing himself to be a product of your prudence, and intellect, in electing his body-building, “I vill be BAKK” self. I hope that you are proud of yourselves, Californians!! “Cause” only ignorant people are proud of stupid decisions and, on the whole, that’s what we American see by your election mentality/history. What about “Paris” or “Justin” or the winner of American Idol,as your next Governer? Huh? You, as a state that has influence in our electorate, totally disgusts me and many more that think as I do. Do what your country needs you to do. Don’t give us your “AHNOLDS”, nor your NIXONS/REAGANS/RENQUISTS. Give us your “bright” citizens that care about our country, not the corrupt anti-Americans you continue to send onto the national stage.

Last night, I watched the replays of John McCain on the stage after Arnold spoke. I don’t know about anybody else, but I was disturbed by McCain’s behavior. He kept spinning around, jerking his signature thumbs-up signal over and over again, like a toy that had been too tightly wound. There was no dignity or grace to his mannerisms, as though he was simply not in control of his manic movements. I know, this sounds quite petty. Perhaps it is, but I do think that it is relevant to McCain’s temperament and psychological state. I really do believe this man continues to suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, from which men who have been through considerably less than McCain have never recovered.  It’s just disturbing on a very visceral level to see this kind of personality so close to being President of the United States. http://johnrj08.wordpress.com/2008/10/26/mr-president/

The attacks of the past few weeks were just a warm up for the last 72 hours of the campaign.  The purpose of the earlier attacks were to create doubts about Obama in peoples minds.  Now they are coming out with stories about an aunt of Obama’s who was here illegally.  Stupid white people will no doubt read all kinds of sinister possibilities into that.  Look for more of this stuff on Sunday and Monday which will not give Obama much time to respond.

Pennsylvania and Ohio.  The McCain campaign has bussed thousands of volunteers into Pa. in an attempt to take that state also.

Arnold thinks McCain is the great American hero. Hmmm. He went to the Naval Academy because of his father’s and grandfather’s influence and graduated 5th from the bottom of his class. He crashed 3 Navy jets before he was captured in Viet Nam because he took unnecessary risks. He dumped his ill wife and 3 children (who waited for him while he was a POW) for a much younger, very rich trophy wife. According to both McCains, he literally chased her around a table when they first met and they both lied about their age to each other. He was deeply involved in the Keating 5 scandal which caused thousands of people to lose their life savings. Then he picks a flashy woman with an IQ of 116 to be a heartbeat away from the presidency - entirely possible since he is 72 and has had recurrent bouts of Melanoma cancer. Yup, Arnold, I guess that is your definition of a great American hero.

Schwarzenegger is not that popular in CA.  I figure this is about like having Gullino as your backer.

Thanks but I will stick with the Colin Powell endorsement.

davidperi:

I think most people believe what you say.  But I also think, in the really big picture, this election might truly represent a tiny swing in favor of the worker and that’s big—or can be.

Just maybe, with one-party rule for at least the next four years, workers’ work is only beginning, i.e., dems would love to maintain control longer than that and can ensure their chances, now that the Republican party is in complete disarray, by doing what they didn’t do in ‘06: listening to their voters. Now, we have to hold their feet to the fire.  That will make this the revolution I think it has the potential to become.

You gotta give Obama credit.  He has crafted an ingenious campaign, that capitalized on the Bush/neocon stupidity, to do something highly unlikely: a person with AA blood running through his veins to win the WH in arguably the most racist country in the world. He’s basically done this by convincing enough of the most bigoted whites among us that he’s not going to do to them what they did to half of his people for a few hundred years if he becomes the most powerful person in the world.  In fact, Obama’s message is that he’s a uniter, not the divider that the uniter W turned out to be.

Americans can be slow to react but react they will.  Come Tuesday, it’ll be a new day in this country.  The Dems know that they have to deliver and, I think, will, or they’re history, just like the neocons. That’s the last thing they want.

We need to get over our fear and hatred for how our system works. We just have to make it work a little better for workers.  The neocons sucked us dry, temporarily, but as McCain said, “the greatest fundamental of our economy is its workers.”  We need to prove him right about at least that one thing, even if it was a disingenuous statement on his part.

When all of this is said and done, we can say, “Voters Bless America” freeing God to go somewhere he’s really needed.  We’ve run the poor guy ragged and it’s time we became self-reliant.

Guys…when all this is over with in couple of days, and when life will be normal again….the rich will get richer and the poor poorer, there will be new ways to defraud, Wall Street will find different ways to break the laws, ...and the when the new president will take office and promise what they promised…it won´t be much different than what we had in the last decades.

Well Mr. Schwarzenegger, I think your time would be better spent trying to figure out how to keep your state from going bankrupt.

You got lucky, cashing in on the upswing, let’s see how your luck holds on the the downswing..

It’s likely there will be a lot of angry Democrats in Sacramento after the elction, and they may not need you anymore.

Sure…sure… and if your Christian, all the MORE reason to listen to Schwarzenegger and his “pals”.

Let’s be real.  Republicans have OBLITERATED their Christian base.  They see them as “loose change”... you know the stuff you throw out into the street or parking lot for luck.
