Could California Go Red?Posted on Oct 28, 2008
If there’s one state that most everyone would consider in the bank for Barack Obama, it might well be California—any more to the left and the state would be afloat in the Pacific (thus fulfilling the fantasies of many). So why are the early voting returns telling a different story?

Yes, CA can be tricky, especially “behind the Orange Curtain” also known as Orange County
Report thisThe place essentially decriminalized White Collar Crimes, and is overrun by Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations that have found a “Safe Harbor” there, while local, state and federal officials appointed or elected, look the other way
Voter purging ensures Repubican stronghold there

California brakes down this way San Diego to Orange County in the right pocket, Los Angeles, San Francisco pretty far to the left. Then there is the central valley home of the white hooded slave masters who believe everything from Osama’s an Arab subversive terrorist, to I ain’t voting for a black man. The ignorance is so pervasive one has to be very careful when speaking aloud and never at the place of employment. These opinions run straight through most of the white working class and even those on public assistance.
Report thisHopefully they will be very disappointed.

California is a mixed state, for instance, Sacramento is so Red it should make Communist China jealous. Listening to the local talk shows, I could get the impression California is really red. But, maybe only morons call in to radio shows. Expressing your opinions on radio is a lot different than writing them, say here on TD. Hell, if I called in to a talk radio show, I would sound like a moron. Guess California is full of morons.

“Hopefully, the early returns are not a telling result! As the current debacle in our government is a testimony to - people that have no clue should not be rewarded with the highest office in this nation! While I appreciate the way that California does lead in environmental efforts - y’all are the same people that voted to put Reagan in office (what a joke - not ha ha either)!”
Great post, Spiritgirl, but you forgot that the “Great State” of California also gave our nation St. Richard (Nixon) and the “Honorable (sic)” William Rendquist(he of a wonderfully American judicial record as Chief Justice of the Supremes and, also quite notably, as the Jr. DA in SoCal that pushed (and won) for “illegal” internment of “our nation’s” Japanese-American citizens at the outbreak of & during WWII. A state that has “mandated” ~ 80% of its state budget through the “art” of referendums that, for all intents and purposes, handcuffs their Gov’t's budgetary options. My hope is that this population of “transplanted” mid-westerners will finally find the truth and become an active part of those wishing to make the “changes” that are now, imperative.

Absentee ballots in California are traditionally cast overwhelmingly in favor of conservatives. The real story here is that the number of absentee ballots cast are evenly split along party lines. That fact spells L-a-n-d-s-l-i-d-e Obama when the real voting starts.

I can’t even believe this article is getting play.
1. It’s source is Redstate.com Can you say biased??!
2. Absentee voters tend to skew to elderly people - who tend to skew Republican.
3. It assumes that after the last 8 years all republicans are continuing to vote the party ticket.
Absurd.

104,000 Republicans and 105,000 Democrats doesn’t mean a toot. This Repub, and everyone I know, except for an irascible Texan, is voting Obama.

California is not really that far to the left. It’s a heterogeneous state with a little bit of everything, that happens to lean mostly center-left. It’s really common for us to have a republican governor, and many left leaning initiatives and propositions regularly fail due to a very dedicated republican base and apathy in other sectors. And there’s nothing to get republicans to a poll like a gay marriage ban.
