McCain Callers Walk in Protest

Robocalls are illegal in Indiana, so John McCain and friends paid to have a local call center phone voters. The campaign’s script was upsetting to some of the center’s workers, who decided to miss out on a paycheck rather than read it, so they got up and left.

Talking Points Memo:

Some three dozen workers at a telemarketing call center in Indiana walked off the job rather than read an incendiary McCain campaign script attacking Barack Obama, according to two workers at the center and one of their parents.

Nina Williams, a stay-at-home mom in Lake County, Indiana, tells us that her daughter recently called her from her job at the center, upset that she had been asked to read a script attacking Obama for being “dangerously weak on crime,” “coddling criminals,” and for voting against “protecting children from danger.”

Williams’ daughter told her that up to 40 of her co-workers had refused to read the script, and had left the call center after supervisors told them that they would have to either read the call or leave, Williams says. The call center is called Americall, and it’s located in Hobart, IN.

I did some phone banking & canvassing for Sen Obama. We were never really given a script, just information to better dispell lies from McCain’s.
But what was disturbing is how nasty people could get. You’d pray they’d just hang up on You, Instead of Reem your ass out for some cooked up lie they are obsessing about.
Honeslty I volunteered for th eCamapign for abou t4 months, but I’ve recntly stopped. not becaue I don’t support Sen Obama, and the other Dems in my State. I just could not guarantee I could keep my composure in the face of such hate, irrational fears and frankly Verbal abuse by Mccains Supporters.
They are Stupid and nasty. Stupid because they are still claiming ideas which were dispelled during the Primary. Nasty because no matter how much you even agreed with their Points, they reverted right back to agitated if you mentioned how Sen Obama planned to address those concerns.Nothing like a damn Wall, Couldn’t even be civil.Sorry I guess my mother raised me with better manners than that. I could mentally stand right next to their claimed ideology-ei guns, eliminating circumstance leading to abortions and Bam! Back to ‘muslim’.
Can’t fix intentionally Stupid, can’t fix self imposed misery and can’t stop Masochistic Behaviors either.

So the Republikkkans have tried to shove made-up icons down our collective throats this entire election. From Sarah the Nut-Job to Joe the Plumber. We should have known that real heroes would emerge from mainstream America. These humble workers risked all they have to stand up to a tyrannical force. They did not do this because of their love or loyalty to Barack Obama. They simply would not commit an act contrary to their good taste and sensibilities.
We should all applaud them and we should strive to emulate them.
Don’t give in to the hatred, the divisiveness and the violent rhetoric.
Just calmly, with dignity and pride intact, say no and walk away.
Beautiful!

Of course if your sorta read through the website, they claim the be one of the biggest (or the biggest) I don’t remember… telemarketers of insurance.  Let’s see, the Carlyle Group, Major Telecommunications Client and Insurance.  Didn’t we just bailout and protect some of these people and weren’t they the ones who “got a real good deal” from taxpayers… and now they’re giving McCain a little “puttum there”.  Oh yeah… I think that’s how it went.

Americall’s webpage:

Enjoy.

I hadn’t meant to hit the “submit” button… oh well… here’s the rest.

Then there was this press release, 1-10-08:

Teleperformance announced completion today of the negotiations of Teleperformance USA and it main client.  This new agreement has been renewed for a three-year period to support a variety of applications including Customer Care, Technical Support and Customer Growth.

Teleperformance partnership with such a Major Telecommunications Client is outstanding given both the size of the contract which is one of the most significant in the outsourcing history in the U.S., as well as the confirmation of the clients loyalty.”(emphasis THEIRS!)

Hmmmm….wonder who that could be, and that kinda sorta ....link…to the Carlyle Group and then the “lucky” partnership with a “Major Telecommunications Client” but I think its the “confirmation of the clients loyalty” that just makes you feel all warm and cozy inside, doesn’t it…?

A couple of tidbits regarding Americall, according to it’s website:

Americall is owned by Teleperformance

Americall is a subsidiary of Teleperformance, which has the largest global footprint in the industry with 281 contact centers, presence in 45 countries, servicing over 75 markets and 15 NearShore/OffShore locations.

http://www.teleperformance.com/Americall/AboutUs/Default.aspx

According to their 11-20-07 press release:

Teleperformance announced today the acquisition of 100% of H-Tel Holdings, Inc, in cash, by Teleperformance Group, Inc., its holding and management company for the Americas and Asia Pacific regions, from The Carlyle Group and other minority shareholders. H-Tel is the parent company of Hispanic Teleservices Corporation, a contact center services provider with operational facilities based in Monterrey (Nuevo Leon) and Guadalajara (Jalisco) Mexico.

Bravo! Even more so because the people that walked know there are ALWAYS consequences to every action. It stinks, but there it is. That’s just brave.

Now if the rest of us can learn to admire anyone that overcomes fear to take a stand, whether we like what they’re standing for or not, what a world it would be.

Bravo to those that still have integrity and character and walked out on the slime machine. Perhaps the cast and experts at Fox Tabloid can take over and make those robo-type calls. They are experts at sty-style disinformation.

Finally people with a conscience and some honor. Rather that spew further lies and hatred from the McCain campaign, they chose the higher path of walking away. Let’s hope they still can keep their jobs and not be penalized for this.
