Foreign affairs: Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari told Sarah Palin she was “gorgeous” during their meeting on Sept. 24 in New York City.
Tina Fey, in character again as Sarah Palin for last weekend’s “Saturday Night Live,” made light of how the Republican vice presidential candidate was “literally” embraced by “a couple of them Pakistani guys” she met at the United Nations last week. Unfortunately for Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, though, the prayer leader of Islamabad’s Red Mosque isn’t laughing about Zardari’s encounter with Palin last Thursday.
Maulana Abdul Ghafar, the prayer leader, seems to be irked by Zardari’s “you’re gorgeous” compliment to US vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin during a meeting.
When Zardari was asked to keep shaking hands with Palin for the cameras, he said, “If he’s (the aide) insisting, I might hug you.”
He said the act was un-Islamic and unbecoming of a head of state of a Muslim country.
Maulana also said that Zardari shamed the entire Pakistani [nation] by publicly making indecent gestures towards Palin in Washington last Thursday.
Zardari’s offhand compliment has also created quite a flutter in the virtual world also.
