Palin Talks War With Russia in ABC InterviewPosted on Sep 11, 2008
Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin is finally answering questions from a journalist in ABC’s three-part interview series with chosen reporter Charles Gibson. Palin comes out of the gate with guns blazing, rewriting history about the Georgia-Russia conflict and considering the possibility of a U.S. war with Russia in the first episode, airing Thursday. (Yes, that would be 9/11. Coincidence? Nyet.) For one who lives so close to Russia, Palin seems distressingly unaware that it was Georgia, in fact, that upset the status quo by first attacking South Ossetia on Aug. 8. She could have at least taken John McCain’s lead and looked it up on Wikipedia.

I can’t believe my ears when the “experts” keep saying she succeeded in her interview because she didn’t say anything egregiously stupid. What kind of a standard is that?
Here’s the question that keeps binging around in my head: Has she answered the questions any better than anyone I know, or for that matter, any woman currently in an elected office? Her answers are thin at best. I’ve reached the point where I can’t stand listening to her voice.
For historical reference, I used to hate Hillary…now that our choices have become so limited, I wish she was an option.

If that is a real transcript, man oh man how did anyone vote for her? Bread and milk, the staff of life. BULLSHIT!!!!! I hope that is all she feeds her children so hopefully they will pass away and not take up her legacy.
Report thisExplain to me, McPalin, how humans ate for millions of years. In your narrow world of disney land I bet you think that our ancestors just dropped in at the nearest 7-11 and picked up a donut and cup of coffee went back out to their fred flintstone foot paddle car and went on to work.
This is so scary because the numb brains in america are all going to think ‘wow, I didn’t know that, I guess I will stock up on as many donuts as I can’. Case in point of how the media gets stupid people with no concept of reality to ‘suggest’ how the numbies need to think.
And her take on terrorists is just, well, it, it’s just wrong. What she is making numbies believe here is that if they don’t live here in america then they are terrorists. If they don’t believe like americans, they are terrorists.
I am almost going into a depression just reading what this totally unconnected person’s idea of how life is and the influence it has on people makes it even scarier because I can readily see where this can get the McPalin ticket in the whitehouse.

Missing transcript from the Sarah Pailin interview:
Question: What should we be doing about terrorism?
Report thisAnswer: Charlie, what you’ve got to understand is that the terrorists are terrible people. Sure, they’re people, that’s true, but they’re terrible people, not nice people. And Barack doesn’t understand how terrible they are. He wants to coddle them, and talk with them and he thinks that’s going to make them be nice people, but it won’t, Charlie, it won’t work. I know that in my heart of hearts. What we’ve got to do, Charlie, is be always on the alert to make sure that none of these terrible people—and they’re really terrible, don’t be fooled about that—we’ve got to be sure to protect our children from them. Our children can’t defend themselves, Charlie, we’ve got to defend them. That’s our job as parents, Charlie, and we’ve got to hold fast and defend them from the terrible terrorists, or else we’re not good parents and we’re not good Americans. Sure, it’s nice to say nice things, but nice things didn’t keep the Twin Towers standing. Nice things didn’t stop Osama bin Laden and his partner in crime Sadam Hussein from killing three thousand Americans, patriotic Americans practicing their patriotic right to assemblage at and near the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, Charlie. Minding their own business, going to work, or shopping. Shopping is American, Charlie, but Saddam Hussein and Osama bin laden, they don’t shop, Charlie, they have other people do it for them. And Barack Obama has other people do it for him. That’s how he and they are alike. You can see that someone who would have other people do their shopping for them wouldn’t be able to comprehend the bottom line of what’s important and what’s just, well, I’m sorry to say, elitist. Charlie, that’s something else Barack simply doesn’t understand. I shop. I buy milk. I buy eggs. Just yesterday I bought a donut, Charlie. Have you ever seen Joe Biden biting a donut? We have donuts in Alaska. We’re just regular people in Alaska. We buy bread for our children, and milk, of course, milk. Milk, Charlie, is the staff of life. Bread too. Milk and bread are the staff of life. So, if I’m elected President, I mean Vice President, of the United States, I’ll protect you and your children and mine from the terrible terrorists and I’ll give them milk. Not the terrorists. I will never, ever, I pledge, I will never, ever give a terrorist milk. Charlie.

Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin wants to rewrite history about the Georgia-Russia conflict and considering the possibility of a U.S. war with Russia. It is so unfortunate that Palin is so inexperienced and unaware that it was Georgia, in fact, that upset the status quo by first attacking South Ossetia. I endorse the New York Times Editorial fully when it clearly states that, “In a dangerous world, Americans need a President who knows that real strength requires serious thought and preparation”. It appears Republicans want Sarah Palin to win the White House not on ideas, but by denigrating experience, judgment and qualifications. The Editorial further adds that Sarah Palin’s selection as John McCain’s running mate poses a serious problem for the United States at such a dangerous time in US history. At the same time it does raise serious questions about 72 year old Senator John McCain’s judgment. Palin’s selection as his running mate is shocking and disappointing and at the same time very dangerous for the country. The Editorial writes, “It was bad enough that Ms. Palin’s performance in the first televised interviews she has done since she joined the Republican ticket was so visibly scripted and lacking in awareness. One of the many bizarre moments in the questioning by ABC News’s Charles Gibson was when Ms. Palin, the governor of Alaska, excused her lack of international experience by sneering that Americans don’t want “somebody’s big fat résumé maybe that shows decades and decades in that Washington establishment where, yes, they’ve had opportunities to meet heads of state. The ABC interview made it abuntantly clear why Americans should worry about Palin’s lack of experience”. The Editorial has rightly concluded that, “This nation has suffered through eight years of an ill-prepared and unblinkingly obstinate president. One who didn’t pause to think before he started a disastrous war of choice in Iraq. One who blithely looked the other way as the Taliban and Al Qaeda regrouped in Afghanistan. One who obstinately cut taxes and undercut all efforts at regulation, unleashing today’s profound economic crisis. In a dangerous world, Americans need a president who knows that real strength requires serious thought and preparation.” In the final analysis, the selection of Sarah Palin will ultimately cause the Republican Party lose the Presidential Election.

So Russia attacked Georgia, “unprovoked”!? Surreal. I guess killing 12 Russian peacekeepers and hundreds Ossetian civilians by all-night bombardment is not at all a provocation. Russians should just have taken it all in stride. Maybe it’s just me, but it sure looks like Sarah Palin is the least qualified person in America for a VP post. If I was an American, I’d be gravely concerned.

People need to see how dumb this women really is. It took her six years to graduate from the University of Idaho, with a major in journalism. Lol. Most of the people that make up Washington have advanced degrees in Law and she expects to make it with a degree in Journalism, I feel safe at night. She has no thought of her own and everyhing put in head was by the Mccain camp. She has set the women’s movement back by atleast 100 years. Asked by Gibson about the Bush docrine is, she was ignorant and needed help to figure it out. Than her answer was still stupid. She is a big lair, she just figured out that pork belly projects are bad, she got a poor liberian fired, fired the man than refused to fire her bother in law. The list goes on and on. Who talks about the possibilty of going to war with Russia, Its God’s will for Iraq. I dont know about you, but the last thing I want to do is go to war with Russia or China. Being that John Mccain is older than dirt we can expect him to die in office and this lady has a divine will to cause war with these super powers. We have too many problems going on here to worry about Georgia. We have to worry about education, improving the middle class, etc. If she gets into office get ready to start with the old cold war procedures, get under a desk and kiss your ass goodbye

Palin demonstrated her total ignorance of the recent war between Russia and Georgia when she stated that it was “unprovoked.”
Saakashvili of Georgia (American educated and English speaking) is the cause of this fiasco. With a total disregard for the sanctity of human life and while the rest of the world was watching the Beijing Olympics, Saakashvili launched a rocket attack that reportedly killed over 100 people and destroyed people’s homes.
Distinguished columnist William Pfaff (http://www.williampfaff.com) describes Mikail Saakashvili as “a hysterical and demagogic Georgian nationalist.”

These posts are all intent to smear Palins comments. She never said to go to war with Russia, read the transcript. She was asked the hypothetical question that if Georgia joins NATO and then is invaded by Russia if she thought an obligation by the USA to intervene. Her answer was perhaps which is the right answer but she also mentioned other ways besides war. I could imagine this forum if she would have answered no - all the posts regarding Palin with no clue on the contractual relationship of NATO. Do you know what Obama will reply before so much critique of Palin? May be this is something the Obamas fans should know before throwing so many stones (remember FISA).
Also, do you all think she new that Russia has veto power on the UN Security council and that Iran is not a tiny tread? Let’s get real….

Oh, come on now——this was her first interview on national TV by a world class anchor! While she may have invoked the name of a warrior god (not knowing that belongs to Israel), hinted at going to war with Russia(though she did temper those remarks later), and gushed over the “Bush Doctrine”(once she was prompted)——these are no reasons to denigrate her. Just look at her credentials hockey mom, mother of five, has a Down Syndrome child and one who is pregnant, hunts moose, has a stud(dude) for a husband and came in second in the Miss Alaska beauty contest. Did I mention she tends to tell untruths? Yes, she can do it all and if this isn’t presidential material I don’t know what is!!! Yes, she is a Goddess——get the pedestal ready! Are you all ready for the Palin-Clinton campaign in 2012 better known as the Goddess vs. the Godless!

Talking about the ultimate battle and palin wants to dive in head first and go deep. Any kind of aggression against russia could very likely lead to nuclear war as evidenced by russia warning that any attempt by the u.s. to use prescision guided weapons would be met with a nuclear defense. WHAT IN THE HELL IS THIS BITCH TRYING TO DO????!!!!.
Report thisSaddest of all is that this insane rhetoric is exactly what the stupids in this country will relate with: hell, we will just nuke them back, like tossing nukes around is a common tactical thing to do. Reminds me of reading about some general from wwII and the up coming d-day invasion that knew about the manhattan project, thought it would be a good idea to use a nuke to ‘soften up’ the beaches just before the invasion.
Our country is so stupid that this totally inept political female wannabe will be a major factor in getting the republicans elected. That may sound like an unlogical idea but the people in this country seem to be made of largely unlogical people.
Even, as I have said, with 70-80% of the citizens of this country not believing in the direction this country is going, that electing the samosamo crap to the whitehouse is just plain fucking insane nonsense.
No, palin needs to be drug out into the open and put under the strongest of microscopes to really expose her for what she isn’t: not capable of leading anything. She was selected to just catch the sex vote, the hot babe waving her terrible and swift sword for america. Sex sells and that is exactly what may get him and her elected, redneck nascar coach potato he-men voting with the head of their dicks.

Perhaps our only hope is that V.V. Putin lets McCain’s interrogation transcripts leak to the press before election day…you know he has them; there is no way that the son of an admiral wouldn’t have had his interrogation overseen by KGB. And there’s no way that the file of a sitting US senator wouldn’t have been saved.

I cannot believe, that I, a simple person at a small company in New Jersey, understand international relations so much better than a VP candidate. She’s like a small child who still believes in Santa Claus, as opposed to a grownup.
The Georgian situation while ultimately indicative of Russia’s (read Putin’s) desire to recapture the Soviet Union’s power and influence, it was clearly aggravated by the Georgian President’s mistakes, mis-reading of the situation, and, of course, George W. Bush reverting to form:
Sooner or later, somewhere or other, George W. Bush ALWAYS double-crosses his friends and allies, whether it’s Vincent Fox in Mexico, or Donald Rumsfeld in his own cabinet.
Second, as usual, the ham-handed Bush administration doesn’t see beyond the Georgian borders, and cannot see the forest for the trees. There is a silver lining to this cloud, if only Bush and Rich had the gifts and skill to see it….........
All the threats and pressure against Iran have failed. But there’s a new one, and one where we can be the good guys—An expansive, muscular Russia seeking to push it’s borders out again. Russia doesn’t border Iran anymore, but the Soviet Union did, and the border nations to Iran’s North are some of those former Soviet Socialist Republics that Putin would like to recapture.
The heart of the policy would be: We are a super power that’s far away. Russia is a super power on your border that HAS conquered you in the past and is expansionist NOW! Our friendship and cooperation can help YOU keep them at bay.
So many opportunities to repair the natural alliance between the US and Iran have been blown, the worst being after 9-11 when they OFFERED to help us against the Taliban and Al Qaeda, both of which Iran detests.
I know this, but the Governor of Alaska looks like her eyes would glaze and roll at such a simple explanation.

It saddens me so that we have come to this. Many people commenting here are right - after collapse of communism Russia and Western Countries could ve become strategic allies in this not so friendly for us all world. Russia could even consider to become a part of NATO. And we in Russia had done so much for this - we have given an independence to all Soviet Republics, removed our military bases from Cuba and Vietnam, removed our troops from Eastern Europe, helped and still helping NATO in Afganistan. And what we get in return - missile bases on our borders, pushing NATO membership for parts of our former country, the independence for Kosovo. Even when we just answerd to Georgian attack which unprovocatedly killed several dosens of our peacekeapers, stationed in South Ossetia under UN mandate for more than 16 years, and several hundreds of our citizens, which we were obligated to protect by this mandate - we were shown as agressors in Western Media… And now Russia and US are even consider war against each other… Its very sad that so many hopes are wasted. Sorry if my English is not very good.

I don’t think it really matters all that much what she actually says, the ‘quality’ or content of her answers is irrelevant, it’s the way she looks and sounds is why she’s a charimatic ‘star’ a ‘Goddess’ and most people are mere mortals.
Issues and knowlegde aren’t her main selling points, what are her main selling points? She’s, like McCain the comic book ‘hero’, an icon. Palin’s an idealized character to many people on the Christian right. Her values are right and illustrated by her attitudes, behaviour and looks. She has amazing potential as an icon. Reagan wasn’t exactly a super-brain was he? An her ‘intelligence’ hasn’t come from books or the study-group. Her political ‘intelligence’ and instincts come from nature, she’s a natural.
I think people on the left underestimate the power of the ‘natural’ in politics at their peril. Palin needs to be seen in the same traditon and framework as other nationalist/populist leaders; like Eva Perron, Mussolini, Thatcher and Hitler. The right has a track-record of producing charismatic, iconic, leaders, whose lack of real education and primativism made them appear strong as opposed to weak. They were all ‘natural’ leaders and not elitist intellectuals who didn’t look like they would hurt a fly, and one doesn’t choose that kind of person as a leader in wartime.

And I am a woman and I would love to see a woman in the White House. Wake up America. This is dangerous!!! Gibbons blew this interview, what a joke! “Are you ready to be V.P.?” When she rambled on about striking first if we had strong evidence that an eminent strike was coming, Gibbons didn’t follow through with core issue. Of course we’d strike if we knew for certain that an attack was coming, but how does she define “eminent”? Given that intelligence is rarely certain, how would she evaluate it to calculate risk? Why didn’t Gibbons ask “Was the Iraq war a mistake?”

If a country will pose imminent danger in the future, then attack. But she did not even get it when it was explained to her. Oh my God, our fears about Palin’s lack of experience are true. I can’t believe John McCain thought this woman would be qualified to take his place if something happened to him. His “America First” slogan really rings hollow now. This is scary. We really need to get out the volunteers for Obama and make damm sure every Democrat gets out to vote on November 4. This just took on a new urgency.

I hope they ask Obama if HE REALLY thinks he can be President with never having led anything. If he were white and had this lack of experience in running anything he would have never made it through the first State primary. His lack of ability to make a decision in a crisis is obvious in fact that
Report thishe kept voting “present” 129 times when he couldn’t make a decision. If he happens to get elected I only hope someone will write a speech for him quickly if we get to an intenational crisis as he will probably just want to answer the agressors with “present”!

When Chaney was doing an interview the host said the majority of the American people are opposed to the war.
Chaney said “so”
You have to see in your minds eye Rove and Chaney laughing their asses off at the ignorant public, listening to Palin like she knows what she is talking about. Reality is a joke, for we are the clowns.
Public opinion will get you with the help of $4.00 a coffee at Starbucks.

Palin’s biorhythm is completely off!! This is not the lady we want to step in for McCain, if something were to happen to him. We’re bogged down in Iraq, bogged down in Afganistan and nothing would please her more than to be bogged down in a war with Russia!! Please, don’t let her answer the “3 a.m.” phone call. Someone who invokes God and War “ain’t to be trusted.” You see what happened with Bush.

It amazes me every time I hear that people actually think this woman is qualified to be VP and possibly President. She has to be delusional if she thinks she’s remotely ready to assume the role. A man with this thin a resume would never have made the ticket and definitely wouldn’t be taken seriously if he did.
Yet the same folks that elected Bush/Cheney to office twice don’t seem to have learned anything from our recent history and will possibly doom us to repeating this mistake again. It’s a sad reflection on the voting public: so many have such narrow, provincial viewpoints, unaware that America is only part of the greater world, that make narrow social issues override more pressing concerns, that are so selfish that they’re only interested in what’s in it for them rather than how we can take care of all the American family, including the poor. It definitely shows the American educational system has let us down, producing a public that is more interested in being entertained and led by the talking heads of the major media outlets and religious fanatics than one which has the intellectual ability to ask the hard questions, sift through the material and make an informed choice.
If the Republican ticket wins in 2008, God help this country as we’re going to need it before this group has finished with it.

Gotta love all the talk about Obama being arrogant. Did anyone listen to how her voice sounded when asked ANY question? To me it sounded “how dare you question ME?” kind of tone. It sounded like responses from an angry teenager. And by her body language, she seemed angry and lost. If this is what we are to expect from her if (god forbid) something happened to McCain, might want to take a closer look.

I find it hard to believe her comments. No way I would vote for her now. She obviously has no comprehension of history. Or why the Russians were provoked.
With Russia broken apart and weakened a few years ago we could have improved relations easily instead of putting missles on their borders and ringing them with Nato countries and threatening them. On and on. They have reason to be paranoid. They’ve been invaded quite a few times during the last 100 years; the last by Hitler the most heartbreaking.
How did we feel when their missles were in Cuba? We hollered ‘Monroe Doctrine ‘, all day long. Let Russia take care of their nationals and own border countries. Once part of Russia. Lordee, Stalin himself was a Georgian.
Who are we to get unnecesarily involved?
I think Sara P. caused her party to lose millions of votes with this bellicose verbiage. From the many who may have been undecided and were waiting for some sign of good leadership and sane thinking. Let alone those who are nominal Rupublicans. Talk about shooting oneself in the foot !

From Time to Time I get the feeling that mankind is really doomed, this is one of those times.
There are just so many ignorant backward shallow selfish people, like this women. Who could care less about what happens to anyone else as long as they get what they want.
I noticed the other Day that Russian bombers landed in Venuzuela, and that Putin is renewing ties with Cuba. Undoubtedly these are counter steps to our foolish adventures in the world.
Sadly the paranoid delusions of the Neo Cons have led us to this world, they put the future of all humanity at risk.
It didn’t have to be like this after the fall of communism in Russia, we could have led the world to a better place, instead we let the greed, and grandiosity of few men ruin it all for the rest of us.
I’m sorry for this country, and how much it will suffer, how many lives will be lost, how many hopes will be ruined if once again, we turn from sanity and elect the party of Facisim, greed, lies, coruption and tyranny.
John McCain, and Sarah Palin are only champions of lies and half truths, they have no inention to change Washington, their one intention is to sucker the foolish public into sending them back to continue the present regime. And if the American public believes them then all will pay, every man women and child.

Georgia attacked South Ossetia and Russia responded. Russia has numerous citizens there. So, in a round about way Russia was acting in self defense. NOT that I agree with it, the Bush Admin has let Putin get out of control and we’ll now be faced with his games. Georgia broke a negotiated cease fire during the Olympics when they thought no one would notice.

Heavens. This was scary stuff, indeed. She has no idea what she’s talking about, but trying desperately to remember everythng she’s crammed in the last 14 days.
This is the same mistake students make when you tell them they will take an open book test. They are ecstatic, thinking that they can just look up the answers.
But it’s not about what you memorize; it’s about critical thinking…analysis…duh.
I just can’t believe that she is really this dense. Perhaps she is setting low expectations and intends to surprise biden, who of course will underestimate her, with her hidden brilliance.
Call me, Mulder. Palin is one of the first hybrids—alien human combinations. During the debate she will metamorphose into George bush!
All I can say is this…if Palin is an example of McCain’s cabinet or Supreme Court, we’re really in deep doodoo. That would be a terrific utube video, McCain and a cabinet full of Palin clones (too much x-files)

Let’s get this out of the way now. Historically, Georgia admits to attacking South Ossetia, which is host to a Russian majority of citizens. Their intention was to destroy the rebel resistance in South Ossetia, wishing for autonomy. Russia did what the British did in the Falkland Islands, protect their ancestors and and those of Russian origin. Russia basically “Slapped the Wrist” of the Georgian Government. So the precedent is wrong. Russia DID NOT attack Georgia. They retaliated.
This from German World Journal:
Georgia attacks South Ossetia
Heavy fighting has broken out between Georgia and its breakaway region of South Ossetia. Georgia’s Interior Minister has reportedly told the Agence France Presse news agency that his country has launched an attack and that clashes are taking place near the Ossetian capital of Tskhinvali. The Associated Press is reporting that Tskhinvali has come under heavy fire. Hours earlier, the two sides agreed to a ceasefire following a week of mounting clashes. They were scheduled to hold Russian mediated talks later on Friday. The United States has expressed great concern over the situation and urged an immediate end to all violence. South Ossetia broke from Georgian control during a war in the early 1990s, the rebel government enjoys support from Moscow.
