McCain campaign image altered for comment

It’s time to start using the L-word when referring to John McCain and his campaign for the presidency. Misleading doesn’t quite capture the hypocritical use of distortions to make your opponent appear dishonest, as McCain’s latest ad attempts.

The commercial below suggests that FactCheck.org busted Obama for making “completely false” statements, but here’s what the independent watchdog had to say about that: “That’s what we said, but it wasn’t about Obama.”

The Web site went even further, investigating the other quote in the ad, which came from a column in The Wall Street Journal. FactCheck says the quote is distorted, and makes assertions the Obama campaign vehemently denies.

This isn’t the first time Team McCain has mangled a quote or two.

(h/t: AmericaBlog)

McCain ad:

FactCheck.org:

A McCain-Palin ad has FactCheck.org calling Obama’s attacks on Palin “absolutely false” and “misleading.” That’s what we said, but it wasn’t about Obama.

Our article criticized anonymous e-mail falsehoods and bogus claims about Palin posted around the Internet. We have no evidence that any of the claims we found to be false came from the Obama campaign.

The McCain-Palin ad also twists a quote from a Wall Street Journal columnist. He said the Obama camp had sent a team to Alaska to “dig into her record and background.” The ad quotes the WSJ as saying the team was sent to “dig dirt.”

Update, Sept. 10: Furthermore, the Obama campaign insists that no researchers have been sent to Alaska and that the Journal owes them a correction.

Anything for a vote McCain! Hasn’t lying become a major GOP mantra?

Of course, McCain might be excused because of his “heroic” POW experience where he was repeatedly water boarded to the extent that his brain was washed and spin dried.

But what is the excuse of a mother who exploits her children to try to gain a vote from women who might be as pathetic as her?

Shame on them both.

Watching the Presidential forum tonight, some things struck me as disingenuous & hypocritical….
McCain says that more people in America need to “serve” their country. To be more actively involved in making their neighborhoods better & making government better. Yet correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t his OWN VP pick denegrate “community activists”?? Palin mocked Obama for HIS community service and now McCain is saying MORE Americans need to do the same kind of community service OBAMA did!!! WHY should they bother? Its obvious their activism & volunteer work won’t be appreciated. Matter of fact, they’ll only be ridiculed for it. And I hate to tell ya John, but with more & more people having to work 2 jobs, who the hell has TIME for volunteer work!!?!! And stop blaming Obama for HER comments. She was NOT defending herself against smears. HE never said ONE WORD about her qualifications. WE the American people wanted to know what they were, as we have every right to!! WE are the ones who demand OUR OWN chance to “vet” her. You sure had a LOT to say about what YOU thought about Obama’s qualifications to be President.

Also, McCain wants to expand the military but he voted AGAINST veterans benefits. HIS was the deciding vote to pass the GI bill and he said NO! He wants to send your children to war but when they get home, he doesn’t want to pay for them to go to college or receive the full medical benefits & pay they deserve!!! AND WHY???  HIS kids don’t have to worry about going to college on a GI Bill and HIS kids are covered under Government insurance!  (And HIS kids have 7 houses to choose from!!)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pK_9sI7hzAc

He’s also blaming the tone of the campaign on Obama!!! He’s saying that things wouldn’t have gotten ugly if only Obama had agreed to town hall debates. So in other words, Obama didn’t want to run HIS campaign by McCain’s rules so he decided to act like a petulant little boy by taking his toys and going home mad. He would NOT admit that he thought Obama called Palin a “pig”. Even though he’s approved ads claiming he believed so! Typical bully! You’ll say things behind someone’s back but when you’re called on it, you back down!!! He stands behind a fence and throws mud and denies it to your face when cornered. And THIS is your honorable war hero?!?! When asked further about the nasty tone the campaign has taken, he dodged the question totally and said it should be based on ISSUES. THIS coming from the man that approved ads claiming Obama wanted to teach kindergardners sex ed? THIS coming from the man who approved ads with wolves stalking poor, helpless Palin?? THIS coming from the man that has LIED about Obama’s tax policy??? THIS coming from the man that hired Steve Schmidt, Rick Davis, & KARL ROVE to manage his campaign? You can’t hire men that use lies, distractions & shady tactics and then claim YOU’RE the one running a honorable campaign! It doesn’t work that way John!! “Do as I say, not as I do” won’t work anymore!!
And get this…In the middle of the fumbling answer he gave about Palin’s mayoral experience, he stated how she had more duties than any other job in America even harder than HIS job in Washington since he was, and I quote “more divorced from the day to day lives of American people” I’m NOT making this crap up people…Wait awhile and watch it on youtube yourself! This man admitted for the 1st time that he doesn’t know what the majority of people in this country are going through. And THIS is the man you want to trust with YOU & your CHILDREN’s future? You REALLY expect a man with his own jet, 7 homes, and a wife that can afford 300k on an outfit to give a DAMN if you have to buy generic groceries because the prices have doubled in the last 8yrs? If so, then you deserve what you get….

If I was close enough or informed enough to answer, (at least on the caging schedule) I’m sure I’d be as crazy as they are. And, since I am very protective of my own mental health, I stay as far away as I can. (that’s why I had to escape Texas – he’s ALWAYS been this demented, which is what makes it all the more terrifying that so many people actually voted for him both times, even if they still had to cheat both times) .

But, all of these terrible years later, the only cage schedule I care about for the Chimperor is the jail schedule. I wanna see the ‘life in prison’ schedule for his ass.

Choosing between two teams who I feel represent only the bad and the ugly is becoming quite annoying.

Well, the only thing is, I can vote for the least annoying moving into the White House for 4 years,  only because I would prefer to listen to him than mumbles McCain.

Leefeller, I think you’ve hit on something here, even though I recognize (and appreciate) the humor/irony/sarcasm here. But, on the more serious side, the mental health of any leader SHOULD BE a serious issue. Maybe even the most serious.

I can’t and won’t claim to be a mental health care expert based on a long ago BA in psychology. But I can and will claim to be a common sense expert based on years of serving the public, and dealing with families where there is a history of mental illness or personality disorders.

Our society puts other professionals through a battery of tests for exactly this very thing, because it IS so important. Yet we put psychopaths in charge of the whole fucking country, and seem willing enough to continue to do that.

Nobody seems to know much about these people, even ABC’s Gibson doesn’t want to talk about them. Sen. McCain would be a much worse president than President Bush. Sen. McCain’s temperament is not suited to the stressful position, he is hotheaded and prone to relying on his gut when make impulsive decisions. Sen. McCain knows only one thing well, the military, and sees a military solution to every occasion, e.g., Iraq, Iran, Georgia. Sen. McCain surrounds himself with hardcore neocon warmongers, much more than President Bush ever did, including the VP Cheney like advisors from the “Weekly Standard.” The likelihood that the US will be in another war if Sen. You know lies defined can be taking a horizontal position, so how can McCain lie about lies? Lies can also mean making a false statement, so McCain is not telling the truth about being horizontal or is he being horizontal and not telling the truth?  So maybe they are saying McCain is intentionally making false statements about false statements?

If one does something which is said to be intentional, how can anyone other than the one with the intentions know it was intentional? Like George Washington, McCain cannot tell a lie but for different reasons.

On one hand we are told McCain does not know were he is or how many houses he owns, what year it is and why he is standing in front of a Microphone with a hotie wearing glasses who talks about killing things.

Then we are lead to believe McCain is and has intentionally lied. How could he intentionally lie or make a decision on anything, simply because he does not know where he is and why he is?

His constant asking the same old question; “Where am I, why am I here?”; should be a clue. Of course George Washington did not use the word intentionally after cutting down his fathers cherry tree.

As a daughter of a life long hunter- I am appauled by the ‘Hunting’ expedition Plain went on.Did she refer to this heinous act as a ‘Safari’?
Let me tell Mrs Palin about what REAL hunters do- at least in Michigan. they get up about 4 am. Get their gear together, get in their long johns, heavy pants &  sweaters, put on their heavy but warm water proof boots, camo or orange Carharts, Drive to a Wide open area(owned or Leased), drag all their stuff up a tree stand and SIT!!!And afterwards they do everything in reverse- if they gat one they have to Field dress it and drag it out. Then pay to process, or do it themselves.
Hunters in MI LOVE NATURE!It’s NOT about getting one -IT’S THE DAMN HUNT!!!It’s the patience, the scenery, the sounds, the chance, the ‘part of nature’experience- Man against Beast. My father was hunting out west, seated under a tree, when a feamle Moose and her calf came by- she charged him- lucky she didn’t come around the Tree or she would have killed him- she hit the tree instead of him, and he just stayed behind it until she turned back to her calf and left him. That is a HUNTING STORY!
My B-I-L got poison ivy all over his ass while out hunting all day…THAT’S A HUNTING STORY
Put that is not the only story of Palins tht Offends this 45 yr old White Blue collar Female….Palins Birth story is even more offensive to women then even her ‘hunting ‘Story is to REAL Hunters, and the families who worry about them everytime they go- deer attack too, or get shot by another hunter by accident, have a heart attack (Dad’s 77),Fall out of the Tree stand…
These Two stories tell volumes about the Real Sarah Palin - Her judgement, her priorities and her level of Compassion for anything!

It’s truly sad that an unknown can become so sensationalized.  What I first read about her was an editorial in the Jan 08 Anchorage Daily News about how un-Governor like her behavior was on a shock jock show. http://www.adn.com/opinion/story/295464.html
She gets other people to do the bad mouthing for her when someone doesn’t bend to her will.
She got help from the mayor of Wasilla and then ran against him, polarizing the campaign, making it about right to life and getting endorsements from a national organization.  Murkowski helped her out after she lost running as Lieutenant Governor, and then turned around and got his job.  Watch out McCain!

If the lies and distortions didn’t work, the GOP wouldn’t resort to it.  I wish people would look beyond their preconceived prejudices and see what’s really happening.  We have got to look like fools to the civilized world, making an election hinge on whether lipstick on a pig is a sexist remark.  I loved it when NPR aired McCain using the same analogy when he referred to Hilary Clinton and her health care reforms.

They hope to make Palin the only issue throughout the campaign in order to take attention off the eight year nightmare of Bush/Cheney.  Again it’s the strategy of accusing Obama of what they themselves did to him.  They spent all spring and summer trying to dig up dirt on him in Chicago and didn’t come up with anything.  Earlier in the summer there was an article in the National Review in which a guy they (republican operatives) had sent to Chicago to see what he could find, told how the only thing he came up with was that Obama had wanted to be a writer and had written some short stories.  I suppose that being a writer would be considered subversive by republians but they couldn’t make anything of it.

Emboldened by Bush’s lack of accountability for his serial lying, McCain is playing the same Rovian tune.

After it became increasingly obvious that the seemingly robotic McCain with the bankrupt Bush legacy could not effectively run against Obama, McCain’s Rovian advisors prompted a desperate McCain to choose a young, female radical conservative. She is opportunistic, has messianic delusions, and the same capacity for lying as Bush.

The serial lying started with her speech at the Republican National Convention and has been sustained and augmented by campaign partners since.

“I have protected the taxpayers by vetoing wasteful spending.and championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress. I told the Congress ‘thanks but no thanks’ for that Bridge to Nowhere.”

The latest tabulation for this lie is 25: McCain, 4; Palin, 7; TV Ads, 1; and surrogates, 13.

The media, as was customary with Bush, ignores the lies.

What is the truth?

A Palin supported the bridge to an island with 50 residents until the plan was ridiculed nationally by McCain himself.

As we can see, there is no subtlety in this game of lies. If unchallenged, the practice is emboldened and enlarged. Goebbels, the propaganda minister for Hitler over half a century ago, said the bigger the lie the more the public will believe it.

Palin, like Bush before her, has deluded herself into believing that God supports her and her radical right-wing ideas. Last June, she told ministry students at her former church that the United States sent troops to fight in the Iraq war on a “task that is from God.”

Suggesting God serves gas companies, she said, “..she’d work to implement God’s will from the governor’s office, including creating jobs by building a pipeline to bring North Slope natural gas to North American markets. God’s will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gas line built, so pray for that.”

Another category of lying is the Orwellian invention, saying the opposite of the truth. “A McCain-Palin administration” would “move forward on solar, wind, geothermal, and other alternative sources.” The truth is that she and McCain are soul-mate Luddites. She believes alternative-energy solutions are over ten years away and that global warming is a myth invented by liberals. McCain has consistently voted against renewables but boldly calls himself “green”.

Either under the realm of ignorance or a stridency unchecked by the media, speaking in Colorado last weekend, Palin said that lenders Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac had “gotten too big and too expensive to the taxpayers.” The companies, however, “aren’t taxpayer funded but operate as private companies…that is until this week.

Palin and McCain have campaign allies in the lying business.

One of the whoppers at the Republican Convention was told by Mike Huckabee who said that Palin “got more votes running for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska than Joe Biden got running for president.” Actually Palin got 616 votes in 1996 and 1,525 votes in 1999 while Biden got 76,165 in 23 states before dropping out of the race.

And Mitt Romney said in his convention speech, “We need change, all right – change from a liberal Washington to a conservative Washington!” His prescription was, “to throw out big-government liberals, and elect John McCain and Sarah Palin.”

It is another fabrication, for with eight years of Bush and seven years of a Republican majority, great damage was done to our lives. The Democrats became the majority party last year, hampered at every turn by Bush and Republicans.

With Palin being isolated from the media by the McCain campaign, only scheduled to interview with ABC’s Charlie Gibson, she cannot be challenged regarding her many lies told to the American people.

The obvious purpose of the lies is to give Republicans four more years in the White House.

And certainly Palin would say that God wills it?
