In this Aug. 23 photo, an Afghan woman and her daughter wail after a relative was killed in the airstrike in Azizabad, a village in the Shindand district of Herat province.

Cell-phone footage shot by a doctor in a makeshift morgue in Azizabad, Afghanistan, showing rows of dead Afghan civilians, including several children, has led to a renewed inquiry into an American-led airstrike that occurred Aug. 22. American officials had previously insisted that only seven civilians had been killed in the attack, but they’re now having to face the possibility that the actual figure could be as high as 90.

The Independent:

General David McKiernan, the commander of Nato’s International Assistance Force (Isaf), ordered a fresh investigation led by a Pentagon general after footage was released on Sunday night. In a statement he said: “In light of emerging evidence pertaining to civilian casualties ... I feel it is prudent to request that US Central Command send a general officer to review the US investigation and its findings.”

The top-level review comes just days after he admitted there were “large discrepancies” among accounts of the death toll. American officials claim there were just seven civilians killed. The United Nations, the Afghan government and human rights groups said that the body count was closer to 90. Locals said most of the dead were women and children.

The damning footage was shot by a doctor who visited the morgue, in a building normally used as a mosque, on the morning after the attack on 22 August.

“What makes the grass grow?”
“BLOOD, BLOOD, BLOOD!”
If this old marine corp axiom were true, Afghanistan would look like a putting green!
So long as the military gets to investigate itself, the blood will keep flowing.
Thanks american media. All the blood is on your hands too! The only way the american media would report any of these slaughters would be if the society editor of the new york times was at one of the weddings we’ve blown up.

the news media shown here in the USA is staged & false pictures, and false information is given; why does this surprize anyone? Every single Indian tribe our Gov has lied to & robbed & stole from them & cheated; http://www.democracynow.org; type in Indians and oil; that’s right; one tribe has YET to receive a CENT from oil on their property & they are the poorest of the poor in this country; another tribe they claim they “lost” $100m; along with all the “lost” equipment in every single war, squirmish, etc, cuz THEY keep the $ & the “equipment” is only on paper; and yes, all members of Congress are in on this; they have lied cheated & robbed vets of the USA for years; removed pensions, some have YET to receive a penny of disability while our Gov actively working with the Corps claim all military personnel have mental problems so they Corps won’t hire them but the “illegals”;

Where is the outrage and Mainstream (Corporate) media coverage over the US killing of civilians?

There was no shortage of outrage and media coverage of Lebanese civilians killed by the Israelis during the war with Hezbollah.

Is it acceptable when the US does it, but not when Israel does?

Why isn’t the US subject to the same scrutiny as Israel?

This, of course, does not mean that I approve of killing of civilians. This should always be avoided at all costs.

My heart goes out to the families of those killed; both in Lebanon and Afghanistan (and Iraq, Gaza Strip, South Ossetia, and Georgia).
