Just this afternoon I heard Senator Biden say that “this is not your father’s republican party” and I thought, this applies to the democratic party too. But there is one difference. At one time, the democrats were concerned with workers (i.e.; the people), while the republicans were traditionally considered the champions of the owners. But then the money grab became job one, and now both parties are just trying to please the same corporate handlers, whether it is General Electric, Verizon, or Pifzer. But here is where the difference is. The republicans have allowed the religious extremists into their tent. This started under Reagan, who threw them their “right to life” bone, while doing little else to change or implement policy.
Well by the time we get to George born again W, their influence has become such that they start yanking the congressional chains, as in the special legislation to “intervene” for Terry Schaivo. All the nonsense put forward in the name of their ideology: prayer in schools, banning stem cell research, the partial birth abortion ban absurdity, the funding of abstinence only sex education, and the cut in funding for contraceptives. All of this fits in quite nicely with their ideologically driven vision of social control.
That is where Governor Sarah Palin fits in to all this. A true believer in the rapture, and the concept of Christian holy war. This reader of the “left behind” series, has her rather bizarre belief system tucked away in the veneer of the ordinary, common sense mom. Yes, she is a state governor. But with a population that is less in number than the county I live in.
Please understand I am not an Obama/Biden advocate. I merely point these matters out on the republicans so as to shed light on their agenda, which, in my opinion is very dangerous.

You just described almost the same that can be said of the democratic party.

It’s why more and more people who still want to part of the political process turns “independent”. (Including me.)  They feel their party is failing them big time!

It seems to me that all this is a charade. We are pawns of the democrats and republicans playing a game of chess.  Let the side with the best strategy win, no matter what. (Hence, leaving voters angry, disappointed and frustrated and downright perplexed as to why we bother getting involved at all?

No, I am sorry it is not just about fear. Main stream news ignores the fact that Governor Palin represents the most extremist ideology of the ultra right wing Christians, her pick as VP represents the final capitulation of the Republican party to their intolerant agenda. As libertarian presidential candidate Bob Bar said the other day: “I didn’t leave the Republican party, the Republican party left me.”
Senator McCain has chosen to grovel before these ding bats, because he needs their monetary muscle in the election. The party that he is now apart of is far worse than most democrats can imagine. Their religious zealotry permeated all matters of policy.

It’s amusing watching and reading the mi-nute op-ed pcs. on Sarah.  I believe the worry warts are covering the bodies of all of the far left.

You see, these worry warts seem to pop-out everytime a woman makes her mark in the politcal world.

It happened with Hillary, and now Sarah.

It’s fear plain and simple.

Why else would they go through such great lengths to try and destroy them?

Show me stats. where all independant woman were polled on this subject and it’s outcome.
Who are the “focus groups”?  The last I read, two focus groups are waiting to see how she handles herself in an “un-scripted” setting.
They came to no-such conclusion as of yet.

Ran her through a thorough vetting to assure she would never be able to be the VP. Will her indifference during the Birth of Trig, piss off so many Prochoicers AND prolifers, she is hated by Us en masse. Will her legal troubles amount to Political suicide? will her Affiliation with the AK Succesionist Group make her To UnAmerican? Will her total inexperience and Ignorance be blatanly Obvious during her first Debate with Biden.
Will she willingly step down for the sake of the party, Or Her Family Issues?
Or will she be run out by her own Parties Ol School Republicans, or the Neo Cons, Or the Pro Lifers?
And Who would be available, Well Vetted and Chalk full of Experience, in such short Time…..DICK.

A couple of interesting points came up while I was working on my own post about last night, based primarily to the text of Palin’s address:

One point pertains to Aegrus’ comment about speechwriters:  This is the first time I ever saw an Associated Press that specifically named a speechwriter.  Isn’t this stuff usually kept discreetly concealed?

More important, however, was that point where she practically repeated the classic Reagan question:  “Are you better off now than you were four years ago?”  (Her own wording had to do with leaving this nation better than we found it.)  Was this a deliberate statement that Bush has left the nation far worse than when he found it, thus delivering the message that four years of McCain will not be four more years of Bush?  That will not play well with the Bush support base, and I cannot imagine that the independents will believe her.

Diamond great info.  I also read today that he needs to release his VA medical records.  Would be interesting to see what VA doc’s have said over the years.
I just fear he’ll pull it off somehow.

McCain is eerily like George W. Bush and is pretty much a disaster waiting to happen.
1. McCain ‘lost’ four navy aircraft: four in accidents and one in combat.

2.He was a ‘below average student and a lousy pilot’.

3. McCain is infamous for his clashes with bereaved families (just like Phillip Zelikov and the 9/11 families who he treated with contempt). McCain once clashed so violently with the POW/Missing in Action families that he shoved them out of the way, almost toppling the wheelchair of POW/MIA mother Jane Duke Galor, whose son Charles Duke is among the 2,300 Americans still unaccounted for by the Vietnamese.

4. McCain had 20 hours of combat and yet he received 28 medals. This averages out to 1 1/2 medals for every hour he spent in combat. Grunts on the ground often had 7,000 hours of combat and had no such medal haul to show for it.

5. McCain described the POW/MIA families as ‘the most craven, most cynical and the most despicable human beings ever to run a scam’.

6. McCain told reporters on his campaign bus that
‘The nice thing about Alzheimers is that you get to hide your own easter eggs.’

Scared yet? The similarities with Bush are impossible to ignore.

Can McCain not fail? Hard to believe. I’ll be watching with beer in hand. I wonder if Bush’s speech writer will do McCain’s speech as rudely as he did Palin’s speech last night?
