Cindy McCain’s ‘Let Them Eat Cake’ DressPosted on Sep 4, 2008
It’s hard to paint the other guy as an elitist when your wife wears an outfit that cost more than most houses. Vanity Fair estimates that Cindy McCain’s convention ensemble, complete with super jewelry, set her back somewhere in the neighborhood of $300,000.

In response to Me’s comment:
“I personally find it in bad taste, but its her money.
if she wants to spend it foolishly, let her.”
I personally find it in bad taste because if you consider how many people - real, live, individual people - you could help with the money she spent on overpriced fabric, you would soon realize just how many more rich fools the world can bear.

You yourself are delusional if you believe that wearing less than a $300,000 ensemble makes you a slob.

Its just true. FIRST, she has a half sister that was on the planet (and the apple of her father’s eye) before daddy cheated and made nicey beddy-bye time with Cindy’s Mom (being a home-wrecker is in her DNA!)

That’s a link!
The other thing is, as a former worker with painkiller addicts, she was as high as high can get. Addicts in recovery work a program and use alternate ways of treating a hand injury incurred by a vigorous hand-shake…setting off her carpal tunnel.

If he is so far out of touch with the common man that he believes that a “middle class” salary caps out at $5M/year… what does that say about his outlook on the world??
this kind of thing reminds me of the episode of South Park where all the wealthy people start moving into town… some of the new rich children are portrayed as being unable to rationalize the plight, or even the existence, of people without 7 digit salaries…

i think when really rich right wing religious conservatives like mccain and his ilk use the term “elitist” they really mean “intelligent!”
it can’t have anything to do with dollars as lil’ john (who, by the way crashed 5—count ‘em—5 navy planes) and drug addled cindi have about 10,000 times more money than the obamas.
and when rich people “give” to charity it doesn’t mean as much as a little old lady who gives 5 bucks, the rich get it ALL back in tax write offs created expecially for them by THEIR government.
“of the rich, for the rich, and by the rich.”

Good Grief!.... If you had the kind of money that Laura and Cindy have then you would spend some too at a large function that the globe would be watching you on tv. Remember Cindy was the only child to her parents wealth. If you’ve got it and want to spend it, do it. I’m sure she has plenty to save too. Don’t you go and spend more than you’d like for a wedding or etc.? Look at Hillary….I’ve never seen her in the same outfit twice and there is no telling what she pays for her outfits. They probably make enough interest on their money invested to wear an outfit + like that a day. Leave all the ladies alone, and let them dress nicely. Who wants a slob for a first lady or President? If they are spending your tax dollars it would be a different story, but they are not. I think alot of people could find better things to put their minds to use than bashing ladies on their attire. It isn’t like they are showing skin, and being tacky. Live your life and let others live theirs. Maybe Oscar and etc. let them have great deals, or freebies. You wouldn’t want anyone bashing you on your clothing. And for Heaven’s sake….don’t accuse them of stealing the money. You’ll have to answer to that one day, maybe not on earth but in Heaven. And that is where it really counts. And for all of you that accuse Cindy of looking like she is on drugs….repent….that is a terrible thing to accuse someone of and not have proof. Would you want someone to say that about you? It is easy for someone to take pain pills for pain when they are hurting, hurting and hurting. I’m not sure of her medical condition. If she is taking pain medicine, she probably needs it. We can’t judge how someone feels because we like or dislike that person. I imagine what you saw IF ANYTHING was exhaustion from campaigning. I just don’t understand why someone wants to belittle the opposite they are voting, and I am speaking to all Americans, republicans and democrats. Let’s all live our own lives, and stop being so insecure that we bash our opponents and their families. Let’s all try to live in HARMONY!

Lori: Yes, Cindy McCain set up a charity, then she proceeded to steal the money from to fund her drug habit. I don’t know why she didn’t use some of her own money if she wanted to do drugs, rather than stealing it from her own charity. She certainly has enough of, or maybe she spent more than her daily allowance would cover. But, hey, after all, to this elite neocons, charity begins at home. For them anyway.
Don’t forget she also plagiarizes her several generation old recipes for her cookbooks from Rachel Ray and other top cooking shows from the television claiming then as her and hers alone. She has done this in several of her books and been called on it several times.

Of course it’s nobody’s business how much of her own money she spends, but when she accuses people who work for a living of being elitist then it does become other peoples’ business.
Report thisCharity work is what rich people do to keep the system going. It used to be called ‘noblesse oblige.” Now if the system were fair economically, there wouldn’t be any need for charity.
By RightWing, September 6, 2008 at 7:45 am #
Lori , the Obama’s have done nothing for charity, if you compare it to their wealth, You should ask where the 50 mil. from the annenberg project went, that was supposed to go to inner city schools, mmmm I wonder where it went…..Ask of the people on here who among them gives back, like they say everyone else should, you probably wouldn’t have too many.

I would like to know what Michelle Obama has ever done in her life?
Cindi McCain has done A LOT for charity, donated a lot of her money to charity.
I havent heard anything about what Michelle Obama has ever done.
I am neither a dem or a rep, but I think this whole thing is silly.
It isnt a big secret that rich people spend their money foolishly trying to look a certain way.
But a lot of them do a LOT of charity work.
I do think it is a bit pretentious to sit there and say you understand the struggles of the average american, when you are wearing an outfit that cost more money than the average american makes in 5 years. But how that woman spends her own money is none of our business.
Focus on the good she has done with her money, stop dwelling on her personal purchases.
I would love to know more about what Michelle Obama does for charity.

As I remember it Americans did not like the royal pretensions of the Kennedys and Reagans. Does anyone remember Nancy Reagan’s china policy?

Americans loved Jackie Kennedy. They loved the Reagans bringing formal back to The White House. Americans love celebrity and bling. The Brits have it right. They kept their royalty with its big houses and pomp and titles. On the other hand,their political leader (prime minister)is referred to by his or her first name and lives in a town house.
Our founders, especially Adams and Hamilton, screwed this particular part up. Instead of a unitary powerful president all dolled up in a grand mansion, we need to restore the power to congress and leave all the glamor to Hollywood.
Oh, and in Denver, there were lots of 3 carat diamond earrings, designer clothes, and pearls going in and out of those private parties. People in glass houses….

Edwards was excoriated because he had a $300 haircut. McCain’s wife has a $300,000 outfit and gets a pass. Obama and his wife were excoriated for having a house worth more than a million. McCain and his wife have several houses worth more than a million and get a pass. Apparently, the difference is that wealthy Democrats want to tax the rich and the wealthier still McCain does not. That is an important difference when the person discussing it is a pundit, news anchor or media owner who is also very rich and going to be the primary ones getting taxed if Democrats are allowed to win.

Cyrena is onto something here: did you notice how McSame had to tell and direct Cyndi where to stand, which side to stand on, where to wave. Look at the pic above! Laura has her by the arm, apparently to guide her to the marks.
Report thisSince we’re on the subject of drugs, just what meds is John McSame taking? He appeared rather stiff and unbalanced, especially after his speech when he walked down the stairs to shake hands. Cyndi went down into the mosh pit with him, but she shook hands with her left hand—after slipping the hunk of bling-bling off her finger to clutch in her right fist (before some enterprising hoi polloi ripped it off as a souvenir).
McSame looked pale and, well, old. Figure he must be on blood thinners, ambien, etc.
Finally, McSame’s crew of lobbyists has been reading our websites: for the first time McSame showed us his adopted daughter from Bangladesh and admitted he actually had 7 children (from two marriages).

A point of correction to your post; InBev is not a German company, although it owns German made beer brands, Beck’s for example. InBev is a corporate conglomerate that combined Belgian owned Interbrew with Brazilian based AmBev. which became InBev, with headquarters in Belgium, and extensive operations in Brazil.
Report thisAccording to business sources, the sell of Anheuser-Busch to InBev means that Cindy McCain expects to gain at least $18 million from the sale of her stock, at an agreed upon price of around $75 a share.

“Did anyone else think she looked like she was on drugs?”
~~~~~
Funny you should mention this mackTN. One of ladies involved in active support of our homeless outreach program, (who is probably just as wealthy but one would never know it just from talking to her) was mentioning this very same thing earlier in the week. She confided that she’s convinced that Cindy is ‘still on the stuff’. And, you know what some folks say…once a junkie, always a junkie.
So, my friend would probably agree with you that she looks like she’s on drugs. I can’t really tell, since it’s the same as always to me. I’m admittedly curious (though only a tiny bit) about the bottle platinum hair. I guess some folks just don’t wanna EARN anything.
Anyway, Michelle, Malia, and Sasha are obviously genuinely more gorgeous, and I’m sure they managed it at a fraction of the cost. And Barack made sure his suit for the event was union made.
Also take note how no one in the RNC is discussing how Cindy McCain is getting a major payout courtesy of the German company InBev purchasing Budweiser. Since she is a Bud stock holder she gets a huge payout. And McCain says he can relate to the “average American”?
Author Naomi Klein also brought up an excellent point regarding Team Obama. A gentleman named Jason Furman works for the Obama campaign. Klein pointed out that Furman is a defense attorney for Wal-Mart and has defended their horrid labor practices. What’s a guy like that doing on a campaign that promises “major changes”?
Then people wonder why I will vote third party.
That’s the first thing that came to my mind when I saw that dress. Why would anyone pay all that money just to look like the ol’ lady next door and only slightly better than Gladys Kravitz…?!
A Mother Jones blogger had this take:
“For reference, here are some things you could do with the money it took to buy Cindy McCain’s outfit.
- Buy the average American home, which costs $266,00.
- Fund the $5,000 tax credit John McCain proposes giving to working families to help with the annual cost of health care. You could cover 60 families.
- Buy 30,000 anti-malarial bed nets, including distribution to Africa and education on use for recipients.
- Pay the tuition of 59 Arizona State University students.
- Fly a Learjet 60XR for two and a half days at the price of $4,800 an hour (it’s the only way to get around Arizona, you know).
- Provide 6,000 students with school desks taken away by a schoolteacher that Mike Huckabee knows.
- Give tire gauges to 75,949 Americans hit hard by the price of gas, so they can get better mileage in their cars. Or so you can mock Barack Obama.
- Send nine community organizers and one part-timer into the streets to work for a better America (hahahaha!).”
