While the webloids are busy looking into the drinking habits of young Bristol Palin, The Huffington Post has a disturbing report on Ma Palin’s right-wing church: “Pastor Kalnins has also preached that critics of President Bush will be banished to hell; questioned whether people who voted for Sen. John Kerry in 2004 would be accepted to heaven; charged that the 9/11 terrorist attacks and war in Iraq were part of a war ‘contending for your faith;’ and said that Jesus ‘operated from that position of war mode.’ ”

John McCain’s VP choice addressed the church in June, leading a prayer on such subjects as the Iraq war and oil pipelines.

Huffington Post:

The church runs a number of ministries providing help to poor neighborhoods, care for children in need, and general community services. But Pastor Kalnins has also preached that critics of President Bush will be banished to hell; questioned whether people who voted for Sen. John Kerry in 2004 would be accepted to heaven; charged that the 9/11 terrorist attacks and war in Iraq were part of a war “contending for your faith;” and said that Jesus “operated from that position of war mode.”

It is impossible to determine how much Wasilla Assembly of God has shaped Palin’s thinking. She was baptized there at the age of 12 and attended the church for most of her adult life. When Palin was inaugurated as governor, the founding pastor of the church delivered the invocation. In 2002, Palin moved her family to a nondenominational church, but she continues to worship at a related Assembly of God church in Juneau.

Moreover, she “has maintained a friendship with Wasilla Assembly of God and has attended various conferences and special meetings here,” Kalnins’ office said in a statement. “As for her personal beliefs,” the statement added, “Governor Palin is well able to speak for herself on those issues.”

The Bush administration act III “Sarah goes to Washington”

Airforce 2 touches down at Reagan airport, the vice president is escorted to a waiting motorcade of up armored humvees.

Sarah: Damn, these babies are nice.  I’m driving.  Lets go off road and see what’s out in the brush.  Is there a license requirement here?

Aide: ahhh no Mrs. Palin, hunting is outlawed in the District of Columbia.

Sarah:  Bullshit!!, get my rifle, we’re heading over to that wooded area.

Aide: Miss Palin, that’s a

BAMMMM!!!

Aide: zoo.

Sarah:  Tie it on the hood, I’ll clean it when we get home.  Does Cheney know about this spot?

Aide: yes ma’am, nice shot.  I’m sure the Chinese will be delighted to hear about their panda bear.

The motorcade proceeds.

Sarah: Is that the Smithsonian?

Aide: yes ma’am

Sarah: get somebody from EBAY over here.  I can make a killing on this stuff.

Aide: ma’am, this is a national museum, you don’t own it.

Sarah:  Bullshit!!, I was elected, I own it!  What do you think that old airplane will bring?  Put a window in it and it’ll be a great bush plane.

Aide: yes ma’am, it has extra fuel tanks and all.

Motorcade continues

Sarah:  Wow, that’s the biggest oil derek I’ve ever seen.

Aide:  Ma’am that’s the Washington monument.

Sarah:  Call Todd and have him get the B.P. Guys down here.  We can scab a drill on the side of it.  STOP the motorcade.  Did that sign say “family planning clinic”?

Aide: yes ma’am, that serves the D.C. Area.

Sarah:  Bullshit!  Tell Todd I found a great location for the gun shop.

Motorcade continues.

Sarah:  Nice building, what is that?

Aide:  That’s the justice department ma’am.

Sarah:  Perfect, I was wondering where I could put my congregation.  It’s close, it’ll do.

Aide: ma’am that’s a government building

Sarah:  Hand me the rifle, ain’t no atheist liberal commie pinko going to ban my freedom of religion!

Aide:  yes ma’am.  The department of labor is just ahead.

Sarah:  awesome, I was the biggest employer in Alaska.  I need to talk with them about keeping Americans free from big government and if they give me any static they can just try to find a job in the private sector. HA HA HA HA…....

Motorcade continues.

Aide:  this is the White House were President and Mrs. McCain will be staying.

Sarah: Yeah, I’ve seen pictures of it.  Lot nicer than that old observatory I hear.

Aide: You’ll have a very nice office area in the west wing.

Sarah on her cell phone.

Todd honey, let’s take John and Cindy up to our cabin for some hunting up over desperation pass.

Aide:  I don’t think the president hunts.  He’s 72 and might not be up to it.

Sarah:  We’ll see, Maybe John can carry Cindy’s pack.  Oh my gosh, the national archives!

Aide: yes ma’am, the constitution is housed there.

Sarah on her cell phone

Hello, EBAY?

Palin was picked AND VETTED the DAY they saw Obama’s speech, which was let out early.  It was DESIGNED to change the media from a HISTORIC McCain/Republican-HAMMERING speech. Republicans complaining about Sexism investigations. Pure ROVE thinking. It worked!  Sexism is ALL the news today.

Genius Barack! Allow the media to go nuts over a FAR-right-wing Oil-backed Governor whose fisherman husband was recently made an OIL-company Manager. A woman that LIED in the first thing she told Americans about being AGAINST the Bridge to Nowhere! She “CAMPAIGNED” for it AND Stevens- who has been charged with 7 counts of corruption and bribes… FROM OIL COMPANIES!  After Congress took the bridge funds away she said she was against it!  How STUPID but typical of HYPOCRITES.  No wonder Rove liked her after only ONE interview by McCain.

Send out Hillary to go after Palin. Palin just gave GLOWING reviews of Hillary!  She’s AGAINST everything Hillary is for!

She’ll quit as a Hero fighting against the Left Wing media attacks(For her family)!  McCain will be a “Maverick” and then he’ll pick one who will get him votes rather than LOSE him votes!

Quinty: I agree that hell probably does have more interesting people down there if it does exist, and in not just another ruse used to oppress and control the little people. I am certain with as much Bush-bashing I do-even have a doll for that-I will be there shortly. Besides, didn’t God forbid his first people to not eat of the tree of knowledge? And since most of us today have acquired some knowledge and not remained in the dark, stupid and ignorant, afraid and superstitutious, are we not therefore boud for hell? Well, at least if not more interesting, the people will certainly be better educated and much smarter than those who still live under the oppressive religious dogma they continue to try to force down our throats.

And this government spies on the Jehovah’s Witness’s Kingdom Halls and it’s members, where were they when Sarah Palin and her pastor were spouting the things I read today: Jesus in war mode-that the Iraq war is God’s task for America. Really. What nonsense, and scarey thinking also. Thank God I don’t believe in this stuff.

Christian _Conservative_ does not make sense. JC himself was one of the Bolshiest people ever to walk the earth, based on my reading of the Bible.

I may be either naive or pragmatic but, attacking Iran and imposing Marshall Law to cancel the election seems far fetched.  That being said; I would be on the front lines of the revolution if this actually happened.  And for any Homeland Security types out there, which side would you be on?

what i am hearing has obsolutely left me flabbergasted.  I am appalled, agast, amazed
and all other words starting with a thru z.

I know I am a Democrat.  I know I am a grandmother.
I get that somewhere I am out of step with the rest of the world….......but not “this” out of step.

I listen to NRP et al, read the blogs - both right and left, read a couple newspapers - but I am stupified
by the lock step - stepford wife - automoton responses from the right.  Are we really from
different planets? Are we looking at the same set
of problems and issues?  Can they really want someone
this unqualified to be a heart beat away from running
the biggest - strongest - country in the free world?
Hand on the big button - selecting the next 2 or 3
supreme court justices - signing into being laws that
reflect our constitution - and not just her church? or will she just be “handled” like the shrub? They don’t even apply the same set of standard to Obama.

If their family values mean anything why isn’t she staying home to care for her baby and 4 other children - and her soon to arrive grandchild? Or
is it just someone elses family that has to have values?

And to add fire to flames, yesterday I spoke with a young woman I thought was fairly intelligent
and she called Obama the Anti-Christ and babbled on
about the world ending in 2012….........

where have we gone wrong…...........

These elections aren’t about choosing a president (the media and the lobbyists do that).

These elections are a national survey on mental illness.

Kind of like a census, but only for those consumers… i mean, citizens… who haven’t been rendered totally apathetic by the fluoride in the drinking water.

If indeed the “Christian Nationalists” comment below is part of their plan, they will have direct conflict with the corporations, who do not want local law calling the shops, it is much harder for them to lobby at the local level. Local government in this discussion would be below state level in the larger states, but may not matter in the smaller states. This will be an interesting fight corporations vs “Christian nationalists”

By the way using the name “Christian nationalists” does not make sense?

“Christian nationalists want to protect those who defy the federal courts, by stripping federal courts of jurisdiction over cases involving any state or local government’s “acknowledgement of God as the sovereign source of law, liberty, or government.”

McCain should be asked the following questions:

1. What day is it?

2. Do you know today’s date?

3. What does it mean that a rolling stone gathers no moss?

4. Who is the President?

5. Do you have thoughts of harming yourself or other people?

God told George Bush to invade the one moslem country that hadn’t been involved in 9/11 resulting in the murder of thousands of people sitting at home minding their own business.

God wants American’s to be patriotic, so McCain chooses for VP a woman who was a member of a party wanting to abandon the country which had provided the cash to buy Alaska in the first place. Is that godly and gratitude for you?

There is nothing left in the Republican part but fake patriotism, fake pride in country and fake morals. I don’t think Jesus encouraged murder and theft.

Jobart,

Your question #2, leading to #3, has me thinking. Indeed, it would appear that the repugs are in fact trying to ‘throw’ the election. We are talking 2 months between now and Election Day, which is basically NO time, particularly in light of the length of the Democratic primary, that seemed to go on forever. And HOW many months has McCain been the presumptive nominee for the GOP? Well, at least 6 months..like since Feb. So why the hell is he only just now coming up with running mate who is a COMPLETE unknown? Unless she’s really NOT all that unknown, at least to the RNC – Religious Nazi Coalition. (Thanks LibertyWatch, that’s perfect!)

I mean seriously, how do we know if McCain even selected her? How do we know she wasn’t selected by the highly influence group within the RNC (in secret) and then told McCain to run her?

Wildflower posted that excellent link and some quotes from Michelle Goldberg on these Christian Nationalists, suggesting that they are a small but influential minority. In all honesty, (though I suppose it’s as relative as anything else) I don’t think they’re even ‘small’. In fact, I read an excellent piece, (actually a series) a couple of years ago, that put these people in the numbers of about 40 million. And, in my own opinion, these folks are the real ‘terrorists’.

Meantime, there’s this whole thing about martial law, which you’ve mentioned in #3, and this wouldn’t be the first time someone has brought up the idea that the elections would or could somehow be ‘canceled’, (the promised attack on Iran could do it as well) which would give the excuse for a ‘State of Exception’, which is just another name for martial law.

So, could this be a real good plan for that? Palin has to drop out and so McCain doesn’t have a running mate, and so everything gets called off? I don’t know. It’s worrisome.

Obama says leave the daughter out of the politics. I think he makes sense, and that it is the high road. As for mom’s religion, I think that is a dangerous row to hoe, because Obama got hurt with the mud slung about his own pastor, mostly unjustly. So the guy is a wingnut? Doesn’t mean she is. If she believes this stuff (and creationism, anti-gay bible quotes, etc) and says so in the debates, have at her.
When you have a woman who has been a registered member of a secessionist splinter party and is under investigation for obvious ethics violations by influence peddling, then firing a guy for not canning her ex-bro-in-law in the middle of a nasty divorce battle, do you need to dig up the kind of dirt that Demos should know by now just leads to a low-road campaign?

Re: LibertyWatch

You’re right, they are trying to destroy America. John Dean has an excellent article on “Christian Nationalism” on the Findlaw site, and it is quite disturbing:

“If more Americans would read works like Michelle Goldberg’s Kingdom Coming: The Rise of Christian Nationalism, the longevity of our democracy, as we know it, would be more assured. I say this because the more people who understand the thinking and agenda of the growing forces of “Christian nationalism,” the less likely it will be that these forces will succeed. Not many people want to go where Christian nationalists want to take the country.

Michelle Goldberg, a journalist who writes for Salon, defines Christian nationalism as the “Christian worldview” that envisions Christianity governing “every aspect of public and private life, and [holds] that all—government, science, history, culture, and relationships—must be understood according to the dictates of scripture.” Christian nationalists have “biblically correct positions on every issue, from gay marriage to income tax rates. . .

Christian Nationalists are a small but highly influential minority .  .  . Goldberg compared them to neoconservatives, who are a small minority of conservatives, but a highly (if not a disproportionately) influential one. By way of further comparison, she explained that Christian nationalists operate and proselytize in ways not unlike those American Communists once used. . .

Christian Nationalists dominate today’s Republican Party. . . Goldberg conducted her research much as an anthropologist might; she traveled to Texas, Colorado, West Virginia and other places to mix and mingle with Christian nationalists at the grass- roots level . . . In her book, Goldberg cites a 2002 study regarding the “strong influence” of the religious right “in eighteen state Republican parties” and “moderate influence in twenty-six others.” . . .

Christian nationalists want to protect those who defy the federal courts, by stripping federal courts of jurisdiction over cases involving any state or local government’s “acknowledgement of God as the sovereign source of law, liberty, or government. . .In response to the removal of former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore—for defying a federal court order to remove the . . . Ten Commandments monument he had installed in the judicial building—reconstructionists rallied to Moore’s defense. . . . they sought legislation in both houses of Congress to prevent federal courts from exercising jurisdiction over such state or local matters. Indeed, it is the courts that Christian nationalists seek to rely on to impose their agenda on America. . . . “

It’s interesting that jobart’s thinking is very close to my own.  Is this a “bait and switch” tactic by the Repubs? If Palin has any integrity at all, she’ll simply withdraw, citing “duty to Alaska and family,” or a similar and typical politician’s words before exiting stage right.  I don’t give a happy hoot if Palin has got I LOVE BEING A MOM or I LOVE GOD tatooed on her butt and both boobs. Being a parent and a so-called Christian doesn’t qualify her to hold the Number 2 spot in the US government. After all, being a parent and a so-called Christian didn’t help W be a better president, did it?

Well, as those of us surely bound for Hell know, the most interesting people are down there. At least those who strictly abide by the Christian right’s moral and family values appear to be rather dull.

So we have had a yuppie version of the Snopes in the White House for the past 8 years. Now we are preparing to bring another Snopes into the mix. Anyone who has read Faulkner knows that his Snopes were very good at one thing: breeding. And McCain is doing his bit to keep the generation alive.

Of course, you may agree that Palin’s family problems are her business and not anybody else’s. That’s precisely the problem. She has introduced these problems into the national scene, where they don’t belong. And we shouldn’t be forced into following them.

This new “revelation” of Sarah’s background is probably close to the “last straw” before she pulls out of this thing in disgrace.  McSame’s (and the Rovians)  got a lot of spinning to do to try and repair this “decision”. I just heard a report that she’s been sequestered since yesterday and unavailable for interview.  I have a few questions though.  #1 - Do they think that the American public, and it’s female citizens in particular, are that dumb? #2 - Are they trying to throw the election to the Demos and, if so, why?  #3 - Are they planning on Marshall Law being inacted and all of this is simply time-wasting theater?
