According to a one-line report on CNN, a “source close to former President Bill Clinton” has tipped off the news network that, unlike Hillary, Bill Clinton will be conspicuously absent from the crowd watching soon-to-be-official Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama’s acceptance speech on Thursday.

I rest my case made upthread,

“Before we all get too excited, let’s see how Bill plays it Wednesday night. Then it doesn’t matter much if he’s at the stadium Thursday or not. Furthur, we have no idea as to the reliability of CNN’s source.”

with a quote from the latest TruthDig post.

“Showstopper
Bill Clinton reminded Democrats on Thursday why he’s one of the brightest stars in the political universe—and a great cheerleader to have on your side—with a rousing speech in support of Barack Obama.”

Are there any of the above-commenting naysayers who still think it matters if Bill lobs at the stadium tomorrow?

Purplegirl,

I’ve got to agree with you.  This convention is being sidetracked—with a lot of help f rom media who’s out for drama—by the Clintons.  Even I continue to let the Clintons rankle me.  I done with them.

I miss the democratic conventions of old, rousing, smoking affairs with unkempt folks.  Comeon!  It’s time for some Bush/Cheney bashing!  The longer we talk about Clintons, the less we can curse bush/cheney.  Get Kucinich up there and impeach Bush roll call style. Get some folks to dress up as Bush McCain twins.

These reporters should be inundated with vitriol about Bush instead of snide remarks about Clinton from Obama people and Obama from Clinton people.

We can lose this election if we’re not careful.

And let’s not allow the unregistered commenters pretending to be Democrats to manipulate the discussions.

If you’re unregistered and blue, the first 5 sentences of every post has to be about the crappy Republicans!

The reason Obama was not at Hillary’s speech last night is because the nominee never shows up at the convention until after they have actually received the nomination.  It was not a slight to Hillary, it’s tradition.

them and their league of Corporationist of the DLC can find their way home. They’ve been like a crappy lay for 24 yrs.All about them, all about how much they could ‘move & shake’, how beloved they are, how Special they are.Want to know where W got his mandate for self absorbed short sightedness, look to HillyBillys era.I voted for that SOB 2x’s and now I can’t stand the sight of him. Not because of the BJ, but because of how he behaved during Hillary’s claim for the WH.She not only revealed & discredited herself she added the final nails into Bill’s presidential legacy.could that have been her ‘pay back’ vindictiveness. ‘if I don’t make Queen, your Reputation will go down with me!’
so who cares what Ol’Slick Willy thinks or does, as long as he no longer weilds any power over US!
What a Corp Whore he was (IS)!

It is APPROPRIATE for the former POTUS to bow out and cede center stage to the new guy.

Remember that back in 1992, the young Bill Clinton took great pains to distinguish himself from former President Carter, downplaying Carter’s experience (sometimes disrespectfully from Carter’s point of view) and defining himself as the candidate of, yes, *change*. Now it’s time for Bill to stop feeling sorry for himself and concentrate on creating a new role for himself, as Jimmy Carter has done with courage and grace. And it’s time for us to stop being “played” by the media and getting sucked into their tired old “divided Democrats” scenario.

It’s a shame you Yanks have such a silly governmental system that makes an ex-president news all the time and every thing he says or does is covered somewhere.  Who really cares if he shows up or not?  He is just being petulant and a sore loser.  If he’s not careful, he could jeopardize his wife’s re-election.  That actually wouldn’t be a bad thing.  She essentially bought the seat anyway.  New Yorkers should never have put her in the Senate.  RFK bought a senate seat the same way.

Golly, Willie won’t show. He acts like a snotty little kid, miffed because things didn’t go his way in what he mistaken believe is his private party. Too bad. The party doesn’t need him as much as the piranha-like and fully biased media does. This is not news.

If you’ve spent any time at all watching CNN, then you know they will do anything to stir the pot.

Anything to make it look like there is bitterness, stife, disorder, and fragmentation in the Democrat party.

I keep thinking how the Republican controled FTC eliminated the fariness doctrine, when it was convient for them. But for decades when they were in the minority in the congress they were it’s biggest supporters.

There are a few subliminal cues planted in the pictures before you.  1)the “mad black woman” interminable interview that took place right after Hillary’s speech (which I described in “a proud supporter of BO); 2)the number of black people Bill surrounded himself with in his box, unusual for him; 3)no hug or greeting for Michelle, who sat with Biden, not Bill, who’s never been one to sacrifice a legitimate chance to sidle up to an attractive black woman; 4)the Harriett Tubman quotes closing Hillary’s speech.

As Rachel Dawes reminded Bruce Wayne—“it’s not your words but your actions that define you.”

Because, Bill, we hardly knew ya!  Naivete ruled then and there is no longer any excuse for it now!  We still haven’t realized just how far we’ve fallen and it may well be our demise.  There is little time left for an awakening and I don’t see it happening on this cycle.

Not any more ridiculous than Nobama being absent during Hillary Clinton’s speech last night.  What the hell is that all about?

******

Oh please…stop with the drama. If you want to say that Senator Obama was ‘absent’ then he was ‘absent’ during his wife’s keynote address as well. He isn’t even PLANNING to be in ‘physical’ attendance until tomorrow, because he’s ‘attending’ from the homes of various citizens via teleconference.

Did ya miss that optipessimist, or did ya fall through the CRACKS of modern technology? Maybe you’re still hanging out with McCain as he learns to use the computer?

____________________________________________________

I really do admire Hillary and would have liked to have seen her as the first female President. My opinion does not however cloud my reasoning. You really need to place things in perspective. Obama is not at the convention he will not be there for wife’s speech, Clintons speech, Biden speech or anyone else. You’re really pulling at straws ” optipessi mist”. You need to come up with a clearly a more valid reason for your critism.

Wow.

This does seem to be an indication of some very hard feelings.

There are only two possible explanations for this, as far as I can see. Either:

(a) Bill is deliberately trying to be unhelpful and place a depressing cloud over Obama’s campaign, so that Obama will lose and Hillary can run in 2012; or

(b) Bill is so emotionally upset that he simply can’t bring himself to do the proper thing.

Does this strike anyone else as childish?  This is a reaction I’d expect from my five year old, not from a former President and Statesman.  The whole implied notion of “I didn’t get what I wanted, what I deserve, and I don’t like you so I’m gonna take my toys and play in the other sandbox” kills me (figuratively).  No wonder this country is unable to get it’s priorities in order.

It baffles me beyond belief that adults, adults that are in the public eye, adults that are “supposed” to be the leaders of a Nation can be so petty. Someone please enlighten me to the continued ideology of play ground politics, where the mantra of “my Dad can beat up your Dad” takes precedence over moving forward to make this country strong and united.  Haven’t any of these folks learned anything from the past, other than how to hit each other over the head when they don’t get what they want?  It befuddles me to think that in 232 years of this Nations history we’ve been reduced to a five year old’s play ground mentality of politics. No wonder government doesn’t work.  A grandiose idea on paper, but impossible to implement and carry forth.

Here’s my reply to all those that partake in play ground politics.  GROW UP!!!! YOU’RE ADULTS ACT LIKE ONE!!!!  Take a lesson form the kids, because eventually after all the pouting, crying, and whining, even they have the intestinal fortitude to put their differences aside and play together.  Don’t believe me?  Watch them and learn!

Thanks for listening.

Some time ago Cyrena called me an “idiot” because I had the temerity to predict that Hillary Clinton, following her concession, would return with enhanced power to the U.S. Senate where she might make political life for a President Obama difficult. After the speeches by Biden (on Saturday), Warner (on Tuesday), and Clinton (on Tuesday) I wonder who of us is the “idiot.” In fact, I was too timid in my prediction. With Biden gone and a doddering Dodd chanceless, the Democrats in the Senate will be infinitely stupid if they do not replace senescent Senator Reid with Senator Clinton as their Majority Leader. Two issues in Clinton’s speech yesterday show where she departs substantially from Obama. She demanded that the war in Iraq (which is now actually not a war but an occupation) be ended and that the soldiers be brought home. Mark: “soldiers” and “home”, not “take combat units out and send some to Afghanistan immediately” which is Obama’s position. She will work for a “universal health insurance policy” which is fundamentally different from Obama’s timid version.
Finally, a remark about Governor Warner. If this guy is an example of a “New Age” Obama-Democrat I retch and so should all progressives in the land.

I voted for Bill in 1992. It was the first, and last time I threw my vote away to pragmatic ends. Then the worthless prick began selling out the dimmos. He gave up gays in the military, he gave up universal healthcare, he continued DC’s policys of deregulation, he sold Joclyn Elders down the drain.
He pursued a neoliberal foreign policy, causing the deaths of countless thousands of innocents from the Balkins to Indonesia.
Kinda sounds like the actions of a repug, doesn’t it?
So who gives two shits what this scummbag says or thinks? Everyone who has ever delt with the Clintons knows that Bill and his lapdog Hillary, have marched everywhere on a road of bones. Leaving behind a trail broken dreams, broken promises, and jism stained dresses.
The dimmos should buy him and Hillary a plane ticket out of Denver, because a train ain’t fast enough!

Actually, I may find him MORE rediculous than you do! Crap, who cares. Bill not attending has as much affect as me refusing to watch the “Games”. I guess I salute him for his stance, but I still think he’s an ass. He may have made some great contributions, but seemed to me that rather than being a great world leader and an embassidor for justice, change, and human rights, his focus was egocentricly focused on his legacy (how many times did we hear THAT?)and getting “favors” in the O.O. Just a chump as far as I’m concerned. Thankfully he was followed by a president who is , well, an ass and a chump. maybe we’ll get a tri-fecta!

I’m curious.  Does anyone else find Bill as ridiculous as I do..?  (I mean of course, aside from Hillary)  The man was engaging in “self-satisfing experimentation” in the oval office, is that correct… am I confused?  We are speaking of Bill Clinton here, right?

Of course before that we had ol’ “crystal ball Nancy” directing our future from…..what, Nostradamus, or would that be Ra, seriously….these things confuse the hell out of me.

I’m not sure if I should “win one for the Gipper” or take Monica seriously.  Of course, most people I know don’t use crystal balls to direct the SUPERPOWER OF A NATION or use “experimentation” to enhance their job performance.

What a conundrum.  Well..there was ol’ Daddy Bush in there too…  But, someone who DECIDED Barbara Bush was a “good thing” .... well…it leaves a person wondering doesn’t it?

I did figure out that if we’d all just intermarry, then we’d all be “bluebloods” and really… could we do worse than SEVERELY MENTALLY “CHALLENGED”.
