Russia Remains in Georgia Port

Russian officials beg to differ with Western critics who claim that Russia’s ongoing presence in the Georgian port town of Poti violates the terms of the cease-fire agreement between the neighboring nations, insisting that the remaining Russian forces are of the peacekeeping, not the combative, variety.

BBC:

Gen Nogovitsyn, who said Russia was not the Soviet Union or the Evil Empire, accused Georgia of preparing acts of sabotage in South Ossetia and preparing troops for “further actions”.

He also warned that should the US start rearming the Georgian army, Russia might enlarge its peacekeeping force.

Moscow intends to maintain what it describes as a peacekeeping presence of 2,600 troops in “buffer zones” around Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

A US warship has recently sailed through the Bosporus into the Black Sea. Was it on its way to the “Georgian Port?” My hunch is: “yes, it was.”

Dihey, if this warship has just sailed through the Bosporus, it’s probably one of the 8 or 10 that have been cruising the area for at least 2 years now. The Bosporus and the Black Sea are regular hang outs for US warships. The Brits and the French do relief duty.

Seriously, are there ANY places in or around there where the US Military is NOT?

Russia will do what it is obligated to do in its own sphere. The US is powerless to do anything about it except to demonstrate the impotence of even an enormous military in the 21st century. Also on display is the sheep hypocrisy of the US in criticizing other nations on human rights and military interventions.

When would the US learn from its failures,to realize that policies of belligerent nature may at one point, spark thr WW111.The US has no business meddling with nation’s far away thousands of miles fom the US.
Rumers has it that Georgia was designated by Israel, with US blessings, as an advanced base from which Israel would launch its air attack on Iran.Israel had covertly maintained a strong relations with Georgia in military espionage.Tkaashvili’s premature move may have brought an end to this Israeli adventure.Countries should learn from this experience, that wherever and whenever there is an American involvment, there will ensue a national disaster.

Having now read Tom Hayden’s analysis of the Georgia situation for THE NATION, I wonder if General Nogovitsyn should be praised for suppressing the suggestion that, this time, it is the United States that is the “Evil Empire!”
