Russian General Takes Bush’s BaitPosted on Aug 15, 2008With the worst timing imaginable, the U.S. and Poland announced a missile shield deal on Thursday, which prompted a Russian general to strut like a peacock and threaten to punish the land of pirogi. The proposed missile shield has been a go-to irritant for President Bush to use on old friend Vladimir Putin, and for an obvious reason: It works. For those keeping track at home, Poland is a NATO member, which means the U.S. is obligated to come to its defense.

missile defense shiled. ha. can’t work..everyone involved knows it cant work. the threat to Russia is the numerous radar and other sensor arrays will surround Russia. Our actions in the 1950’s-60’s also involved surrounding Russia with missile bases and related hardware. That foolishness resulted directly in the Cuban Missile Crisis and nearly got us all wiped out. The new “ABM” missiles, in order to be effective, would have to be under the flight path of a particular icbm/irbm, would have maybe a 4-5 minute window to launch, would not be effective against multiple launches or decoy-spoof enabled missiles…in fact the things have never been tested under realistic conditions. The system is a fraud but a fraud with two purposes: first, to carry forward the nutty notions of Reagan in the creation of a massive new industry and, second, to again try to intimidate the Russians by filling neighboring countries with spy systems. All this is stupid and dangerous.

there was a time when i thought polish jokes were a joke.
this country just loves to live under someone elses dictates.
in one fell swoop they have aliented themselves from their european neighbors, given radical islam a new killing field and p**ssed off their neighbor to the north.
...unfortunately for them it isn’t a joke.

actually folks: the USA is the worst nation in the world in many ways, sad to say; take off your “lens”, and LOOK; NOT at what you THINK you know to be true; but what IS true; NO OTHER country has ever done so little for it’s people as the USA; go to http://www.democracynow.org; to see Indians & oil; they have stripped the vets pays, health benefits; given political patronage to illegals under the heading of “refugees” with benefits; while harming the citizens of their own country by victimizing, exploiting them, using them like garbage & tossing them away; it is like an onion: the more you start to learn, the worse it gets; democracy has become the most despicable name on the planet because of our Gov & Corps working together against the people of this country & now “going globally.” sad but true; Iraqi’s say it is dictatorship & thousands of times worse the graft & corruption than under Saddam Hussain; the “insurgents” are only folks fighting for freedom from the mega Corp enslavement of others; take off your rose colored glasses & LOOK; now, there is a BIG DIFFERENCE between our Gov & the PEOPLE; the PEOPLE of this nation are GREAT! the Gov is so corrupt its stench engulfs the world;

Report this——————————————————————————
No, Paul, evil is evenly distributed among the world’s people. It’s in the human gene pool. The fact is that the U.S. is the most POWERFUL nation in the world, which means it has the most power to do evil as well as good. It means that when it elects a moron, he is a very powerful moron and he does a lot of evil. The U.S. has also done a lot of good. It is not clear to me that any other country with an equal amount of power would be any less evil.

While we were distrated by the wars and the economy the Bush administration has been working hard to isolate Russia from the rest of Europe including the former Soviet republics. Of course the Russians aren’t going to take that.

Terrorists are too nebulous an enemy, especially since they have attacked us only once in 7 years. The pentagon needs a more distinct enemy, confined to one country we all recognize. Another cold war with Russia will keep the MIC humming.

Isn’t it more like the Polish took the bate by being scared by Americans? The US wasn’t going to back down and the Russians always knew it, it is a slimy tactic and the Americans are masters of it. They pushed for independence of Kosovo. Then they were going to place missiles right under Russia’s nose. What did they think was going to happen?! They’ve got their military spread all across ME and the Caspian region and Asia but it wasn’t enough, they attacked two sovereign nations and they’re getting ready to attack a third one. What a bunch of hypocrites the Americans are. They have become the Monster roaming the globe looking for weak prey. They thought placing the missiles is going to be the knockout punch to Russia. Luckily the bear is out of Hibernation. Someone needed to stand up to this runaway Monster and the Bear is the perfect candidate. Don’t be surprised of more development involving Cuba Venezuela and Iran.
Report thisFinally we may see a balance after all.

The US, under the bogus War on Terrorism, has been surrounding Russia and China with US bases and small countries to threaten to attack them. When the loony Georgian leadership, supported by the US and Israel, shelled and invaded Ossetia, killing two thousand people, who were co-citizens of Russia, and many soldiers of a UN approved peace keeping battalion there, driving the population into Russia, Russia had no choice but to intervene militarily, as Gorbochev has pointed out.
To recover from its bloody nose, which alarmed the other small states that the US has militarized, the US has moved its missiles from Germany and placed them in Poland, who with Checko the US wants to install a first strike capacity against Russia. Against the wishes of the vast majority of the populations of these two countries, who are not insane. The wishes of the people of small countries are ignored as usual in the US mainstream press, so the American people don’t know this.
This is dangerous to the point of lunacy. Much worse than the missiles the Soviets installed in Cuba because they were intended to forstall a US invasion, and did. The Russians cannot allow this without some response. The War on Terror has now been escalated to include Russia.
Both Russia and China are allies of Iran. They both have nuclear weapons. The US cannot engage militarily with either one without using nuclear weapons. It doesn’t have the necessary troops. The US is a Superpower with a Superpresident who cannot even defeat militarily small countries like Iraq and Afghanistan, althought they certainly can kill a lot of people and devastate the country. Winning a war and killing a lot of people are not the same thing.
The US power system and its allies are in the grip of an ideological struggle, led by the neocons, that may well result in thermonuclear war. The US power system, led by both the Gop and Dem neocons, appears to have become politically insane.

Paul, I’m afraid you’re correct. My father worked with NASA for 35 yrs…he always said, “If we ever have a nuclear war with the USSR (yrs. ago), praqy you are killed in the first blast. You don’t want to be one of the last two people fighting over the last radioactive potato”. He also hoped we would “split the last potato” (lol), but one never knows. He was optimistic it would never happen, but he never survived to see Bush-days. He would be one very disappointed Republican.

what JNagarya might not know is that the so-called missile shield threatens to clean up remaining russian abms after a first strike by the us. probably it is a boondoggle that will never work, but the russians cant afford to count on that.
and the ‘new cold war’ is unfortunately more than simply welfare for the mic. now that oil is scarce the first world countries are turning their attentions from their war against the poor and starting to snipe at one another. and now that the us is no longer unquestionably dominant we will be going back to twentieth century power politics. no doubt that is why western europe has gotten in line with the us on iran.

Report thisI am appalled at mankind capacity to commit blunders and react according to primary reactions. We made a mistake to accept Poland into the European Union and into Nato as well, given the article V of this Treaty which by the way has lost the essence of its raison d’être. Of course, I understand their resentment towards Russia but this “ABM shield” against Iran at this location seems a bit strange if not provocative. These missiles are built according to the “hit to kill” principle i.e. one ABM per incoming ballistic missile: the snag being that a hostile head contains some homing missiles and an unknown part of decoys, so what ? On the other side, let’s be sensible. If really efficient, it should be sensible to have radars for instance in Turkey and ABMs in Georgia ( they surely should be willing to harbour these toys) and not in Poland: it’s a full non-sense. By the way, we had a lot of trouble with Poland for their admittance into the European Union as they were haggling to the last possible Euro and I heard that they are doing the same bazaar bargaining with the U.S. in order to have some “advantages” against the installation of missiles on their territory. It is noteworthy that this was a two-way deal between the U.S.and Poland, i.e. outside Nato! That’s fine: there is a proverb in French which says: ” from my friends preserve me my Lord as I can take care myself of my enemies “.
Well, I feel a bit puzzled !
With my best regards Maxim

the generals comments may have been bad pr but they were only the obvious truth. if poland hosts a us offensive system they get vaporized when the ballon goes up.
but probably it is better to be vaporized than to be fried in fallout. the real loser here is the good old usa. if poland gets a defense committment from us, which georgia did not have, domestic politics might lead them to play bait the bear, and then goodbye cruel world.
really america is the most evil nation in the world, and american morons the most evil people.

Amen, Purple Girl. Events do unfold like a scripted ‘End of Dayer’ tale. But like a formulaic Hollywood nephew’s script, plot points and characters are far too obvious for suspension of disbelief ... in thinking minds anyway. After the West’s Cowboy Hat meets the East’s Ushanka, next comes China and the Middle East’s (likely Syria’s) impelled involvement. Where is an astonishing UFO event when you need one?

It was obvious that Reagan never visualized bringing down the soviet government and he had no implementation plans to help foster democracy in Russia, beyond private citizens sending their scuzzy second hand barbie dolls to a nation desperate for soap.
Russia has for over half a century been the Republican/Military Industrial Complexes primary boogy to justify outrageously over priced military equipment. Now George appears to have a success he is recreating the Russian Boogy.
Well the world is overpopulate with humanity and refuses to be responsible. Perhaps when they over play this hand there won’t be any human population to worry about. Isn’t it great to be lead by a Christian President?

“Russian general to strut like a peacock and threaten to punish the land of pierogi”
For whoever writes the commentary here,
You have to analyze the context before making comments like the one above. Nowhere in the article does the general threaten Poland with attack. He literally reiterated what has been said before many times and understood by anyone paying attention: if Poland becomes a launching pad for US weapons it becomes a legit target for Russians IN CASE of an armed conflict between US and Russia and therefore it’s “risking being attacked”.
And what’s with “land of pierogi”? “Pierogi” is just as much Russian word as it is Polish. It’s a Slavic word.
