Schwarzenegger Slashes Wages

Posted on Jul 31, 2008

Amid a state budget standoff, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has ordered that some 200,000 state workers receive only the federal minimum wage. That’s a $1.45-per-hour cut from California’s minimum wage. But the man who issues the checks, the state controller, says he will refuse to follow the order and, if necessary, will borrow funds to maintain present pay rates.

AP via Google:

“Today I am exercising my executive authority to avoid a full-blown crisis and keep our state moving forward,” Schwarzenegger said. “This is not an action I take lightly.”

The moves could save hundreds of millions of dollars a month, but whether full-time employees’ paychecks will be cut is in doubt because the state controller, who cuts the checks, has said he will not comply with it.

Lawmakers have yet to agree on a spending plan a month after the state’s fiscal year began, leaving California without the ability to pay for contractors, the higher education system and legislative employees.

Great tactic, Arnold. The Democrats cannot find it among themselves to control their spending (it’s not their money after all), they have the same charge card privileges as D.C.—except for a constitutional mandate that requires taxes spent = taxes received.

Who will the Democrats find to tax for the progressive agenda? They have a billion dollar liability to illegals in L.A. county alone, and S.F. uses Lear Jets to harbor Honduran Heroin Dealers in its Sanctuary Program. We don’t have healthcare, but our senators conduct “sensitivity training sessions for geriatric GLBT in Beverly Hills, but her district is S.F.?” She’s funded programs to teach mothers how to breastfeed babies—only a Lesbian could be so clueless about such things. But without the State telling mothers what usually comes quite naturally, how will mothers feed their babies—after 10,000 years without such advice?

Now, one cannot have a drivers license without owning a vehicle, and one cannot own a vehicle without buying insurance, and one cannot buy insurance without an impeccable driving record, so imagine how many people these idiotic laws affect? Everyone. And Everyone is breaking them, because they are full of contradictions.

At least S.F. Bored of Supervisors disallows plastic bags, under the illusion they are saving planet earth, except the use of paper bags is 50 times more carbon-laden than plastic bags. And restaurants will need to publish nutritional quantification on each item on their menu—think of how many trees that will destroy for the progressive agenda?

No, Arnold got it right. Go for the jugular, hit the politicians where they are most vulnerable, but putting their vulnerable constituents at risk. Nothing else has worked. I doubt this one will either. But they don’t care. Half the voters don’t vote, and the half that do are quite sure their vote does not affect any change in Sacramento. That’s why the State routinely turns to Republicans for their governors.

I would like to add a personal touch to this story. A very dear friend of mine is a home care provider for people with debilitating illnesses. She is one of Arnie’s victims. So is her son with MD who depends upon these state employees to literally keep him alive. Multiply her strife by the millions of other people who will suffer thanks to this barbarian, a guy who just recently gave tax breaks to yachters and wouldn’t raise his pen(or his sword) for a second to tax the wealthiest of the state! It is a complete disgrace and more importantly it shows who the real girlie man is. If Arnie had a pair, he would do the right thing for the people of this state rather then pander to the other girlie men, that tiny fraction of the stinking rich who profit from the misery of others.

What a nasty piece of work. The legislature won’t stop squabbling so he decides to punish the lowest paid of the working poor. What a brave man he is. What a jackass!

Californians should push, ASAP, to have IRV (Instant Runoff Voting) instated. It would keep a minority opinion from ruling the majority when there is a split in majority opinion (which is how Arnold came to power). Allowing the “splitting the a majority vote” is pushing that state and the country as a whole into extreme camps of left and right, instead of rewarding more varied opinion by allowing voters to rank their choices so voters can be confident their vote is not “wasted”.

GMGreer—Upon taking office, Arnold, the multi-millionaire actor who married into the Kennedy family, and who continued to profit from contracts with a fitness magazine even after he was sworn in, magnanimously declined to accept payment from the state for his services as governor.  Just as well.  Insofar as California’s ordinary citizens are concerned, his services amount to the corporate rape of the citizenry.  So why should he expect to be paid for it.

JG:  If you had been in CA during the Recall you would better understand.  What occurred provides a classic example of how media and celebrity can control the outcome of an election.

Shortly after the Bush regime seized power in Washington, an Enron-led band of Texas-based energy traders swooped into CA, scamming an energy market that was ripe for the picking thanks to deregulation.  The price of electricity soared by more than 400%, as an artificial shortage was manufacturer by periodic intentional shut downs of power plants and black outs.  The hapless former Governor Grey Davis traveled to Washington, seeking a federal assistance in the form of price controls only to be rebuff by Cheney and the FERC which was being run by Ken Lay’s people.  Desperate to provide relief to this manufactured crisis, Davis entered long-term contracts with the energy traders, creating a $12 billion deficit (under Schwarzenegger it has swelled to $20 billion).

Congressman Dan Issa (R.CA) then funded a slight Recall petition drive and when that qualified for the ballot, Arnold appeared on Leno to announce his candidacy.  His star power bought him additional free air time on Larry King Live and other media shows.  During the ensuing fiasco, more than 200 people entered the open-ended race for governor.  There was only one debate entailing Arnold, Lt. Gov. Bustamonte, Ariana Huffington & Peter Comejo (the Green Party candidate).  Bustamonte’s performance was woeful, and most agreed that Comejo performed best amongst the four—and Grey Davis, the incumbent governor was not permitted by the media to participate in the debate.

The week of the Recall, you could not turn on a single station in So. CA without seeing either an Arnold ad or one of Arnold’s movies being run—it was a complete corporate media propaganda blitz.  Progressives divided their votes amongst Comejo, Bustamonte & Huffington, and Arnold won in a landslide.

While reading the article, I kept hoping that “Arrnald” would comment about his own reduction in pay.  Apparently he is just so overwhelmed with the crisis that he forgot to mention that.
Oh!... wait a minute… is it possible that the governor of California did not cut his own pay first?  Well, how can that be?  What sort of individual would do such a thoughtless, heartless,  inconsiderate and unconscionable thing? Please! Not the Terminator! Say it ain’t so.
Well, I guess Jersey Girl just might have it right.  Nazi.  Is that synonymous with asshole?
Just wondering.

I don`t see this very wealthy Gov.making any
sacrifices with his paycheck,or giving up any perks he`s entitled to being Gov.Why don`t we have the lawmakers giving up their pay until the budget is balanced? After all it is they who haven`t balanced the budget, not the state workers. It`s kind of like that same mentality of forget the message, lets shoot the messenger.

Arnold is a nazi. He even wears the death’s head belt buckle to prove it. He is actually on tape from his body builder days saying he admires Hitler.

I can’t believe the great liberal state of cali voted for this man.  WHy? Because they liked his movies??  I’m still wondering why they didn’t change the law to allow non natural born citizens to become president. Arnold would make a fabulous dictator!

Arnold Schwarzenegger “cares about the little guy?”  What a hoot!  After he utilized his celebrity status to vault into office, his first act was to destroy the California Workers’ Compensation system and the lives of the seriously injured employees it was designed to protect.  Arnold Schwarzenegger, like George W. Bush, is about wealth and power, period!

The terminator is holding the workers of California hostage in order to force Democratic legislators to cave in to the Republican refusal to cut the deficit by restoring a fair level of taxation on their wealthy contributors rather than through massive cuts on health care, education and other vital services.  Although the Republicans are a minority in both houses of the state legislatures, arcane rules permit them to block passage of any budget with which they disagree.
